It had to be towed. Not only was the tire right up against the wheel well, but the arm pulled far enough out to actually pull the inner CV joint completely apart.

My alignment specs after raising it 2" so the swingarm would stop chopping through the body were 9 degrees camber each side and 1.75 degrees toe in each side. Good times.

My laptop poo poo the bed so I've only got my phone, any way to mobile upload a picture of an E30 shock that decided it'd rather punch through the fenderwell instead? And I caused a mechanical failur at work today.....mis pressed a u joint. Didn't know you can shoot needle bearings out the backside of the cap!

It's easy to make a diesel engine run backwards. The fuel system is separate from the intake and exhaust and the low speed means your valve timing isn't really advanced in either direction.

There's a tractor that runs around at the Museum town that I blacksmith at sometimes. Its gears are all straight cut (I think) and the way to reverse it is to stop the motor, and spin the flywheel backwards. I'll try to dig up a picture of it, it's pretty neat looking.

Man I want to say it's this one, but I'm not sure now.

I did this on 3 out of 4 when was doing rear-end work on the Sting Ray, using hand-tools. What a loving mess. Every once in a while I'll still run across one in the garage, and it's been over a year.

Bad day for us too. Packed all day with the regular work, theres an overheater that just got new headgaskets and had the heads machined, and then this clutch job came in on an 02 Altima that wouldn't shift out of first.

Boss diagnosed the Safari brake issue. Fault with the abs computer sent an electrical charge through the brake line somehow ( :psyduck: ) and when our tech disconnected the caliper it found new and interesting paths to ground, causing the abs computer and pump to eat itself alive and try to melt the hard lines. Got some pictures, gonna see how imgur mobile works out and try to get them uploaded.

That's what I was thinking. The calipers are likely fine, but the lines are already rusting, and the master cylinder and ABS pump aren't designed for that kind of heat. No telling what kind of damage was done to the electrical system, particularly with that loom that runs next to one of the lines.

Unfortunately the shop's insurance will likely take the hit, even though all they did was remove a caliper. Gonna be ugly no matter what.

edit: I sent 14" a text asking about it, apparently the car was in there for "boiling brake fluid" anyway, and followed it up with: "Haha dudes drivin it into the ground and scrapping it soon, he didn't care at all. Replaced what was necessary and he picked it up". :drat:
