Hey guys, my friend entered a contest to remix Foster the People's Helena Beat. He is in second place currently and I though he did a great job considering he has been DJing for less than a year. Would definitely love some feedback and please vote for him if you enjoy the track.

It said to me 'mixing is more important than my daughter' which is not something any sane person would want to admit in an interview/statement. There's being a lovely parent and then there's being a lovely parent and admitting it to the world. Neither thing is good.

Wouldn't it mean he actually spends less time with her? I mean, if you're pre mixing a set, then you have to do the work beforehand and then just pretend you're doing the work later. hmmm.

Honestly, it's probably negligible. Premixing a little 15 minute mix in Ableton is super easy - I've done it myself in a couple of hours and I'm just a lovely amateur.

Remix contest of Ryan Enzed's Skyscraper for some prizes. I'll be following this closely to see the results, don't have the kind of talent to compete and stand a chance yet, though. E: No genre restrictions, either, so if you wanted you could make a DnB remix.

4x4=12 is one of deadmau5's worst, though :ohdear:

It depends on which tracks in 4x4=12 you liked especially, because the album is a bit schizophrenic in sound(see: Raise Your Weapon vs Right This Second). Wolfgang Gartner is one of the most logical step "forward" from deadmau5 I can think of, though.

I know I haven't got to the rest of his stuff yet. I just like the catchiness of this one, thought I probably appreciate Raise Your Weapon (which doesn't count for this thread) and Everything Before the most.

Yikes, someone actually likes Raise Your Weapon? It's a terrible track on a massively disappointing album. I've noticed that he does his best work on collaborations (the Kaskade collab being IMO his best poo poo). RYW is just straight up bad from any perspective, it's a terrible dubstep track. Mau5 does best when he sticks to his 8/9 minute long house poo poo and I hope he realises this. I thought it was a bit lovely to stick what IMO are a few 'experimental' tracks on 4x4=12, it seemed like some of it was work in progress rather than actually finished or refined.

Flavour of the month Madeon's remix actually made RYW listenable though which is quite some doing.

Random Album Title is a solid album though I do tend to get a little bored of it after a while.

Strobe owns :colbert:

But yeah, experimental stuff is good to have maybe 1 in an album for, or a free release on the internet or something, but when 4x4=12 is like a hodgepodge of whatever random poo poo deadmau5 can think of with no logic to what goes in the album it feels like it was put together to satisfy an exec or get cash. Which makes sense, because that's exactly what it was. Here's hoping deadmau5's "artist album" will do a lot better.

Uhhmm I think Raise Your Weapon is good to someone who doesn't have a refined, sharpened, polished dubstep taste. Show that song to anyone with a marginal interest in dubstep and they will instantly fall in love with it. That's the genius of it, but yeah I can see how people wouldn't like it who actually research and listen to EDM tracks.

I just really like the (perceived?) simplicity of Deadmau5' music. It just hits the right spot for me and is catchy enough for my friends to listen to so I don't have to hear them bitch about techno blah blah put back on whatever flavor of the month rap they wanna listen to

Carl Cox is awesome.

He also offered a frank assessment of Sweat, the David Guetta and Snoop Dogg collab that’ll appear on Guetta’s forthcoming LP Nothing But The Beat. “For me one of the worst records ever made is by Guetta and Snoop Dogg – it’s the epitome of what’s bad about dance music collaboration,” Cox said.

“I like David Guetta as a person and he’s talented in his own right, the same with Snoop. But put them together and it gives me a headache. It’s just a cool business arrangement. Their managers have sat down together and done the maths.”

My favorite Deadmau5 songs are the ones he made for minecraft, no jokes! If only he just made ambient songs, since that's where his best stuff is.

Tommyboy you might like Siriusmo. He loves genre-mixing and sometimes he does like to mess around with dubstep. So I recommend checking out his album Mosaik. Although just as a warning some of the songs maybe a bit out there, but there are good songs on there.
