Ferrets: - Are muskrats - Have a digestive cycle of about 3-4 hours (poop all the time) That's why they stink; their cages need to be cleaned like 4 times a day and they need special additives in their water to keep their coats from stinking. They also need nail trimming and other maintenance so if you're not down for a super high-maintenance pet, forget it

I had a pair and they got out of their cage and found the bag that I kept their spare litter in, and within one hour of leaving the house and returning, they had spread it evenly over the floor of my room to a depth of about one inch and then poo poo all over it

Rats are way more chill and less stinky than ferrets [especially fixed males] but they have this bad habit of dying a lot.

They are awesome pets and doesn't smell at all if you clean the cage once a week or so. My rat became housebroken without even training it. Just never peed or pooped outside its box, and then only used the back corners. Too bad rats are allergenic as hell. Literally everyone who handles rats regularly gets allergic after a while.
