Honestly I really miss the size (and screen) of the EVO. Plus I'm sure the Nexus doesn't pick up on stuff when I tap the screen as good as the EVO did. I'm not pissed off that I got a Nexus or anything it's a good phone in its own right but if given the option to go back to the EVO I would.

(I would have got the EVO as a refurb if I could get it as soon as I needed. Last week I needed a phone real bad, this week I don't.)

I haven't spent a lot of time with the Nexus S so I was curious as a EVO owner. I did notice the screen difference, but I felt like I could get use to it. That said I am so use to the EVO screen that I don't like the EVO 3D screen dimensions (I know same size overall but it is too long and not wide enough looking). When is your next upgrade date?

Wall Street Journal posted:

Sprint Nextel Corp. will begin selling the iPhone 5 in mid-October, people familiar with the matter said, closing a huge hole in the No. 3 U.S. carrier's lineup and giving Apple Inc. another channel for selling its popular phone.

The timing, however, indicates Apple's new iPhone will hit the market later than expected and too late to contribute to sales in the company's fiscal fourth quarter, which ends in September. Most observers had expected the device to arrive next month.

So it will be the iPhone 5 not the iPhone 4S? If the screen is bigger (like rumors have said it is suppose to cover the whole phone) I might use one of my upgrades to pick one up. I still think the Nexus Prime will be a better phone (plus I am person that loves flashing ROMS) so I will still get the Prime, I just will give the iPhone to another member of the family when it comes out.

I'll admit I am lucky to upgrade phones quicker through a variety of means, but I do have to say my Evo would have served me fine for another year if needed. I like dualcore / new poo poo, but I do think phones are starting to plateau in power over all. Someone made a point that battery life is the next thing to improve on, which would be nice.

Eventually everyone is going to be running LTE-something in every band, but that's a long ways off.

In the short-medium term, the SMR (iDEN) band is going to be repurposed for CDMA service. The Samsung Trender and Evo 3D have SMR-band CDMA support, not sure about any others.

The increased Administrative Fee is a "materially adverse" change to your contract with Sprint. You can either: continue your contract and phone service, which means you implicitly agree to the change; or if you disagree with the change, you can terminate the contract and phone service without penalty.

In short, if you want to continue your phone service with Sprint, you have to agree to their fee changes. But if you can't tolerate the fee change, this gives you a way to leave Sprint. In no way is it a means to keep your service with Sprint and get a free upgrade.

Because companies would rather lose a customer than give them a few month bump in an upgrade? I didn't realize that was ridiculous of me. Sorry.

I mean, I'm not going to quit either way, and they are obviously banking on that, but it seems like the few people that ask something like this they would throw a bone to. They bump people's upgrades all the time without any "materially adverse" change to their contract. I guess me not being a dick about it or calling retentions is the problem.

I wasn't looking for sympathy? I also didn't bluff on anything? I didn't say I would cancel or anything to the effect. And asking for a upgrade with 25% of your contract left isn't exactly "absurd".

Some SERO questions:

I have an old school $30/month SERO plan. Can I buy a really nice 4G phone (with no sprint discounts, etc) and switch my service to that phone without having to upgrade to the $50/month new SERO plan? Or will it be treated the same as if I had bought it with Sprint renewal discounts?

Also, can I add a line to my SERO account?

Sorry if these questions have already been addressed. I've skimmed through the thread a bit, but it's one long freaking thread! And thank you.

The only phones you can put on $30 SERO, no matter how you buy them, are dumbphones and maaaaybe the TP2. Non-4G smartphones require the $40 SERO-P, and 4G phones require that plus the :10bux: 4G fee.

"Seven" isn't exactly "a few months". I won't argue whether you should get a free upgrade with seven months left, my point is that "materially adverse" contract changes has no bearing on your upgrade date. They're totally separate issues.

You can capitalize on the bail-without-penalty bit to get an upgrade if you port your line to another carrier, add a line under someone else's account, and port your number back. Hell you can even profit with the port credit. But you can't create a new account for yourself within 60 days of leaving.

Lame or not, the new smartphone pricing issue has been discussed here to death, it's not really worth dwelling on. A few points though:

The Samsung Reclaim might work on $30 SERO, since it's a smartphone-but-not. I'm not certain of that. While it does run Android, it's rather low powered. Perhaps strictly better than a Touch Pro, but might leave you with phone envy yet.

$40/mo SERO lets you run the Optimus S, Echo, or Arrive (Windows Phone). This also includes "any mobile", so minutes to any cell phone are free, and unlimited texts (an add-on many folks, but not all, had on $30/mo SERO). $50/mo SERO lets you run anything else. Which frankly, is still the best individual-line price plan across all four nationwide US carriers.

If $40/mo is just too much, you can use an Optimus V or Triumph on Virgin Mobile's Beyond Talk for $35/mo. It's 300 minutes a month total (no mobile-mobile or N&W minutes), and no roaming. Personally I think $40/mo SERO is a far better value for the extra $5/mo.

Also, the recently-rumored Sprint iPhone, assuming it doesn't come with WiMAX, should be compatible with $40/mo SERO based on the current pricing. I'd be surprised if it's actually allowed, but something to consider.

Thank you! I really appreciate the breakdown.

How about adding an extra line to my SERO account? I tried when they weren't allowing people to keep their SERO accounts and almost lost mine (grr), but now that they're keeping SERO, is there any way I can add a line to my SERO account?

The Reclaim does require $40 SERO; the confusion came because the $10 smartphone fee (which non-SERO users pay on all smartphones now, regardless of 3G or 4G) was waived for it. Said $10 fee is not the same $10 fee that you get charged to upgrade from SERO to SERO-P.

I would be utterly shocked if they let the iPhone onto $40 SERO-P. I think the 4G fee is ultimately called "premium data" and it's charged on whatever phone Sprint wants to charge it on.

Tidbits, but the Reclaim is a lovely slider texting phone, the Replenish is likely the phone you are talking about. Blame sprint for being obnoxious with the drat names.

And the Touch Pro is barely a smartphone :)

LG seems to have two phones coming out, an optimus 2 and some 4" screen higher end phone. Both android of course.
