Anyway I saw Kamelot in Toronto last night. Anyone who is wondering about how they are with Fabio probably won't be disappointed, he fits great with the band.

Also based on the interaction he had with the crowd before their set started, I think the Alestorm frontman might be a little weirded out by the band's fanbase.

Mine is far, far worse, which is why I am not posting it. :) This thread saved me from Bad Metal, though (well, a previous incarnation of this thread did, many moons ago).

At least Moonsorrow is my #1 most listened band, by a good margin.

I am so excited for the new Machine Head album to come out. It is amazing how they were able to resurrect their career and respectability back in 2007 with The Blackening. Now this new song, Locust, is giving me hope that they can keep this momentum going. Then again this could all be ruined if they include another Police cover.

My list is a bit broken because Last.fm for a while was reporting I was listening to a song 1,000 times. :( But it's somewhat balanced out right now.

Overall vs Last 6 months.

Not very metal, haha. A lot of the time what I listen to on the PC is just chill stuff. Also, iTunes doesn't seem to be reporting anything right now. Gotta fix that.

Mine was the best. I had last.fm when I was 13 before I had an Ipod, where I just listened to to single songs I downloaded off of Limewire instead of whole albums, so my top songs were all from when I was barely a teenager for the longest time. It wasn't until I was 18 that my top two songs weren't Dio - Holy Diver and Dragonforce - Soldiers of the Wasteland.

New Wolves in the Throne Room, Celestial Lineage, leaked and it rules. Definitely more atmospheric than Black Cascade, sort of like if you mixed it with Malevolent Grain. Really good stuff so far.

Preordered the other day! :woop:

I dig it, but it's a heady piece of work. It's got a lot less hooks than their previous albums, but so much more depth and atmosphere.

That being said, for seven tracks instead of the usual four it feels loving short.

Speaking of WITTR-style black metal, I was reading up on the Canadian prog band Fen and I happened upon a cute little album called The Malediction Fields by another band of the same name. Here's the opening track:

I haven't listened to BM in a long time, so I'm not the best guy to draw comparisons, but it sounds like equal parts WITTR, Alcest, and Agalloch. I'm mighty impressed.

Fen are great. They play London fairly regularly and are a nice bunch. (I had a really interesting chat with lead singer Frank about the ethics of listening to morally dubious bands at a beer festival once, but that's another story.)

Their new album Epoch is very good too. Has a definite 70s vibe to it but is also black metal enough to keep me happy.

I was really disappointed with Epoch. I love the Malediction Fields and had my hopes up but it seems they ditched most of the atmosphere for unnecessary proggy poo poo and that's not my thing.

Because work visas for the USA are really expensive and hard to get. Normally, you send your passport in three months in advance and don't get visa confirmation until less than a week (usually three days) before the tour starts.

In sum, it's a hot mess and that's why poo poo gets cancelled last minute.

I was browsing reddit this morning and I found a pretty cool upstart folk metal band.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAF-fDivfj0&feature=related

They're called Aether Realm and they're out of Greenville, NC! (Just a state away from me!) I think the vocals stand out the most for me. Mid to high register death metal vocals but the enunciation is amazing. So far they just have a 2 song EP out, but the band looks extremely promising!

I'm not sure I'd call this primarily "folk", but I still like it due to the melodic elements in it. Or maybe I am just not understanding the elements of of NA folk music again.

Thanks for sharing though, I like it!

Well it does primarily fall under melodic death metal I suppose. I guess the folk elements are more prominent on their other track, "Ravensong".

I may not be the best judge of folk metal since the only two bands that I've listened to extensively in that genre are Vintersorg and Borknagar.

With folk metal you are looking more for traditional instruments being used heavily on all tracks.

I'm looking for some good metal bands with female singers. The only metal bands with female singers I know are Kittie, Nightwish, and the folk bands mentioned last page. I'm doing this for a friend who normally doesn't listen to metal, and probably won't make it a habit, but I just wanted one song to put on a compilation CD of different things.
