Jay Electronica posted this on his tumblr earlier today: http://eyeofelectronica.tumblr.com/post/10205575253/ruff-demos-from-act-ii-patent-of-nobilty-the It's a rough cut from Act II, but holy poo poo... I don't think there's anyone who's even on his level right now. I just keep replaying the song over and over again. Now I just have to wait for Act II to come out...

New David Banner song that sounds absolutely nothing like David Banner (he's not yelling). Its pretty corny, but I appreciate the consciousness of it. I wish more people would follow Killer Mike's model of political and conscious raps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5UcFdY-u0U

I don't know I like Mike and usually like Banner but did not enjoy the corniness of that song, enjoyed it even less with the video. It doesn't help that the things he is teaching/preaching against aren't really valid things to be culture warring against.

Warren is a pretty weak recommendation. You want to be looking for Crucial Conflict and Speedknot Mobstz. The later to a lesser degree they dont often do the quick flow as often as The others even they they have Twsita. But definitely Crucial Conflict. This is all anyone listened to i Chicago util they hopped on the Souths nuts when P blew. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMHl92_mn6w https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Fg2NRCB9Sc EDIT: Bone is objectively better than all of those. They made it gangster as gently caress to start harmonizing your bars even though they all had crazy flows anyway. Also, they went in on the south like...instantly. And simultaenously went in on both Crucial, DoD and Twista. Basically anyone that sounded at all similar even if they were actually doing it longer than them. Bone is underrated. Hella. ive said a million times how big a Bone fanatic I was and to some extent still am, so I'll just say I agree with you there Senate, in lieu of babbling on forever about how incredible Krayzie is.. anyways, I can't listen to Hay without immediately expecting Do Or Die to kick in with Po Pimp afterwards https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzwfyPLZHb8 and then Bones Days Of Our Lives, because I was good at making mixtapes in middle school https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GVbeTdDRs4 these 3 songs are forever connected in my brain and I will always be high on the bus to school when I hear them

As for g-funk, try some Bay Area stuff, especially from the 90s (called mobb music for anyone who doesn't know, it's similar to g-funk. Here's a quick description). Some examples: Guce and RBL Posse: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2W3Tkgwqg8&feature=related NOH Mafia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlLzWtb4VlI&feature=related Cougnut, Dirty Dame, and UNLV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmQxwAckd14 51.50: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flFeF6Jnp-o Spice 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbSD2L9oQUc 2-11 and 11-5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQWCehkczHA&feature=related Sacramento is good for g-funk too: Brotha Lynch Hung: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ylKlt0qkWo&feature=related X-Raided: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnqeSdVI1H8&feature=related And speaking of Do or Die here's some stuff by the other much lesser known Do or Die, which was from San Francisco. They've only ever released one album, but it had some pretty good tracks on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wh9JMlvzey8&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tt27hRe67L8&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=na3iZjH7B8U Rah! fucked around with this message at 10:55 on Sep 17, 2011 |

I gotta agree that Bone's way better than Crucial Conflict or Do Or Die if that whole staccato thing is what you're looking for. I used to hate that Hay song, and my friend got that album and always wanted to loving play it and it was lame as hell and still is. I'd actually put Twista below all of them, just for the fact that he always seemed more gimmicky than the others, like he was forever the token "fast rapping dude" whenever someone wanted a fast rapper (although that might just be my bias). Also E.1999 is still one of my fav all-time albums. Has held up a lot better than I would've expected to, poo poo is still menacing as gently caress. Original Crossroads is also about 10x better than the remake, for anyone who actually hasn't heard it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=234aK1Mpc0I alansmithee fucked around with this message at 14:59 on Sep 17, 2011 |

DoesSouthernplayalisticadillacmuzik go without saying? For fast-rapping g-funk, I can't think of many better albums. But I'm sure everyone here already knows it backwards and forwards. So I'll throw out Tech N9ne's old stuff, before the horrorcore/juggalo style, where he kinda sounds like he's jacking Bone-thugz style a bit. That's probably one reason why when compared to many other US cities/regions they don't have as many rappers who aren't on some kind of conscious type of poo poo, or rapping about coffee and snow (i like Blue Scholars, but it's kind of funny when they mention "the hood", seeing as they're from Seattle, and especially in said coffee and snow song). But of course that's assuming that good rappers only come from hosed up areas...which may be true to some extent, but only some. It might help explain the state of the PNW's rap scene though. There's plenty of ghetto poo poo in WA outside Tacoma but you're right that there's only a few major population centers that are ghetto. Most of the cities are pretty safe except for maybe a few neighborhoods here and there. There's a LOT of ghetto rear end smaller cities/towns though especially in the south end of the state. quote:Its weird since we're so close to each other and probably have the same percentage of black people in the city. Haha yeah I wasn't really trying to use the Blue Scholars as an example but they totally fit my Seattle rap stereotype so I felt obligated. Rah's post is pretty spot on though, in that WA has plenty of ghetto but its all small cities/towns & not the major population centers that are ghetto. (except Tacoma & a few others) which is probably why we don't get many good rappers & the good ones we get are likely to be white & inclined to rap about coffee.
