Throatwarbler posted:1/10th the hours of which western counterpart? The F35? The Flanker's AL-31 engine has a relatively minor overhaul at about 150 hours, with an overall lifespan of 1500 hours before being shipped back to get a full overhaul. China and India have both had issues with their AL-31s failing early, however. PW F100-229 engines have a similar plan, except they're at 200-400 (depending on the aircraft type) and 3000, respectively. The newer F100 engines last about 40% longer. My initial statement was a bit of hyperbole.

The problem is, you basically can't believe anything you read in the book, because who knows what else is made up bullshit that she fell for. It poisons the entire well. Stack a bunch of machine guns on the back ramp to keep the enemy's head down as you fly away.

they should put bomb bays on the c5 and then just make one big conventional bomb to fit it, like 50,000 lbs.

If the 9th RW doesn't already have one in the Club at Beale or in the 1st RS Squadron Bar I'm going to be disappointed. Fake edit: Actually, I forgot that I've been to the Club there and they don't have one, so I guess I can hope that the 1st RS has one.

NYPD Comissioner told the news that the NYPD already possessed the means to take down aircraft independently of any federal government assistance. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/09/25/60minutes/main20111059_page2.shtml?tag=contentMain;contentBody quote:Kelly: Well, it's something that's on our radar screen. I mean in an extreme situation, you would have some means to take down a plane. Later he claims he meant .50 cals on helicopters, but I desperately want to believe that the NYPD has a S-300 battery under a tarp somewhere in Central Park.
