So it turns out this Shadow of the Colossus game I've heard so much about is really loving good.

No hacking and slashing wave after wave of faceless minions, no pointless meandering storylines. There's almost a sense of loneliness to the game. I think it's fantastic.

Looks like I'm playing SOTC first.

I'm glad you and a few other goons agree. Like, I can see that there's some fun to be had in there, but the controls just feel awkward sometimes and it's just not as much fun as I was expecting for knee-sliding bullet-time death. In fact, and I'll get a lot of hate for this, but I think Wet did it much better.

I only just started playing a few days ago since I wanted something short to play before I get into Team Ico HD, but I'm not sure if I'll bother finishing it.

Also, am I crazy, or can you only dive in 4 (or was it 8) directions, rather than just where your stick is pointing in 360 degrees?

I recently purchased a PS3 along with the following games to kickstart my collection:

- Uncharted 1&2
- Infamous
- Burnout Paradise
- Mod Nation Racers
- Metal Gear Solid 4
- LA Noire
- Assassins Creed Brotherhood
- Little Big Planet 2
- God of War 3
- Killzone 3
- Red Dead Redemption

Needless to say I went a bit overboard... Any suggestions as to what to play first? I'm looking for a game that I can easily get into given my lack of spare time at the moment.

Uncharted and Assassin's Creed sequels come out in November, so maybe those to see if you like them enough to grab the sequels?

LBP 2 is fun to play in short doses as there isn't any extended narrative to keep track of, and the levels are fairly short. Burnout, same thing. The Uncharted games don't take much to get into, either -- they're fast paced and pretty straightforward.

No, not yet. Some guy on NeoGAF emailed someone in the Subway PR department and was told to expect seeing stuff on the 29th. Another person also got a cup that I think they said had a code right on the side. But I don't know how much stock i put into it.

Sorry, guy.
A couple of tidbits regarding the Subway Uncharted 3 MP codes.

EVERY cup has a code for MP. Chips and sandwiches get you codes for OTHER unlockables, but the MP access is on EVERY (marked) soda cup.

Some stores are 'privately owned' and may not be participating in this promotion.

It's said to start the 29th, but like, don't know if that means thats the first day the cups will make it out into the wild, or the first day the game goes live or what...

I'm almost to the end of New Vegas and holy gently caress is this a good game. Some of the missions the cannibalism thing in the Ultra Luxe with the White Glove Society really, really feel like oldschool Fallout / Fallout 2 missions. This is such a good game. Yeah but it's not just about the info. It's about having a well-designed hardcover book, filled with art, info, backstory, etc.

Edit: 400 pages of the stuff.

Future Press and Piggyback guides are pretty much some of the best in the business, their production values are through the roof compared to average guides.

I have the Future Press Vanquish guide just because the design was so nice throughout. It also was pretty well written in general, but the design was really slick.

The Legend
The themes included with the ICO collection kind of suck. Not really surprising, as almost every theme I've seen on the PS3 pretty much makes text impossible to read. Some of the bonus videos are good, even if I'm seen them before, and there's what looks to be some new footage of TLG in the video "walking in the footsteps of giants". At least I hadn't seen bits and pieces of what they showed.

Still haven't unlocked the new trailer or whatever. I'm guessing I'll have to beat one or both games for that.

SotC is really loving beautiful now. It's a crying shame that they didn't at least tweak the camera controls a bit. The camera feels like it's actively fighting you, as if it wants to show a very specific camera angle at a given time. If it would just not try to move after I move it, it'd be perfect.

The absolute worst is when you try to aim your bow and arrow. The camera switches to where your character is facing, rather than where the camera is facing, which is annoying as hell.

This takes some getting used to but it isn't that bad. I think I prefer it to following the camera because I have no real problem pointing my little dude in the right direction but aiming the camera is the biggest bitch in the world.

It's nice being able to go to targeting mode and have the camera swing around to wherever you pointed yourself instead of spinning my character around to point himself at the floor or the wall or wherever the camera decided I really, really should be looking. Though I guess that one colossus where you have to shoot it in the face while riding away was a bit of a pain in the rear end because of that.

Incidentally, getting on that god. drat. horse. :argh:

That one isn't so bad if you use L1 to center your view on him while targeting with your bow, then letting go of L1 when you're ready to actually aim.

Ugh, going back to your last save every time you die in Ico is really annoying. It's not usually too bad since the save points aren't too far away from each other but there's something really frustrating about having to do the same puzzles over again. Also the controls are a bit loose so dying isn't always fair.

Anyways, liking it so far. Kind of reminds me of Limbo. Though I guess it should be that Limbo reminds me of Ico.

It also what makes this game tense. There are have been multiple instances where I"m don't die don't die....gently caress. However, at least the battles seem to go faster once you know where to stab, dodge etc. I died 10 times in that game. As for the controls, yeah they are a bit lose. You download your PS3 games and play them on a PS3 running CFW don't you? That might be why you're getting a bad framerate and stuff since I don't recall the game having those issues back when I played the retail version.

IMO, DS2 is way better than the first. It loses steam at the end but the highlights of that game are incredible. To me it was almost an Uncharted 1 to Uncharted 2 like difference. Not quite that great but man is it good. It also has one of my favorite/least favorite enemies in any game. They're so loving annoying but any scene with them is awesome.
