ElwoodCuse posted:Why is this so terrible? "We're cheaper than the other guy" is one of the oldest, simplest forms of advertising. Should Blockbuster not try to turn their company around by going after the millions of people who just quit Netflix? Yeah, if anything, I think it's a really good strike back at them. I don't see why they shouldn't be bragging about their low rates when Netflix just lost a bunch of customers because of price, and about how all of the stuff can be gotten in one place instead of by 2 or more services. It actually made me laugh because it was obvious what they were going for.

For the price, Blockbuster simply will not be able to offer as much as Netflix. Anyone who signs on with them is going to be sorely disappointed. This is a last ditch effort by Blockbuster to remain relevant and it's going to crash and burn.

Blockbuster isn't targeting the well-informed, they're targeting the people who had Netflix, and had knee-jerk reaction to abandon ship. And even then, some people just want a cheap service that'll give them most things, but not in every medium, rather than a more expensive service that will give them more things, but in one medium.

My husband got very angry at a commercial for eBay that came on yesterday where a group of workers were meeting in an office room for a meeting and they all got their iPads ready except for one guy and they were all making fun of him. Has anyone else seen it? I couldn't find it on line anywhere.

Alterian posted:Yes! And everyone in the ad is a douchebag. You realize that this is 2011 and that doesn't narrow it down at all, right? It's right here, and apparently the goobers on youtube, including the one who posted it, think this is the funniest poo poo ever. That makes me even more mad, because they're all wrong and it just means the ad companies will just make more insulting poo poo like this. This ad also features gratuitous sound effects (when they take out all their gizmos) and I want them all to die because of it. All of them.

They'll be able to compete with Gamefly on turnaround time since they will have a ton more shipping centers but I doubt they can do anything about new release availability. It's just not profitable to keep super large stocks of games because they have a completely different price/demand curve than movies.
