I did use some console commands to make a guy level 40 and give him the energy swords and all the perks and poo poo and it was pretty fun. I just don't know what it is but that kind of thing seems like a gimmick. I may try lasers, especially now since the GRA added some really cool energy weapons. I don't care for most of the guns. They seem like incremental improvements at best that I have to carry around whole new stocks of ammunition for. Plus there is just a visceral feeling I get running up to a guy firing on me with a mini-gun and uppercutting him clean into the sky... Parts of him at least. I hit people in HH so hard that their weapons just floated in the air where they used to be standing. Good times.

Man I love OWB but for the first time in over 1800 hours playing the game I'm forced to use drugs. I cannot survive the indoor Nightstalker battles in the X-8: High School Horror! final student record retrieval test. I've got the Hunting Shotgun and Shotgun Surgeon plus And Stay Back but four of those fuckers is too much. When I heard OWB was "wacky" I was worried but the writing and voice acting is SO good. Maybe the vigor tester got the best of him. Or..something. I don't know. That's dumb as hell. You know what I love? I love shooting powder gangers in the face while hidden, then casually strolling up to their boss and collecting a reward for a quest. And then shooting more of them in the face.

I didn't actually wipe out the Powder Gangers, even though I fully intended to. I strolled up to the prison wearing the bloodsoaked uniform of one of their brothers I'd killed and stripped naked, and they said,"Yeah we know you're not one of us but.... you don't gently caress with us, we won't gently caress with you." After that it just felt like a step too far to kill them after they were so accomodating to the guy who they KNOW murdered the gently caress out of a bunch of their buddies.

So I had a weird bug pop up recently. I had just told Ambassador Crocker about getting the Boomers on the NCR's side (which bumped my NCR reputation up to "Liked") when an MP comes running into the room and tells me that I shouldn't have hosed with the NCR. After this, him and every single person in the NCR embassy goes hostile to me. I haven't ever hurt the NCR, so how did this happen? And is there any way to prevent it?

Not only does it make it possible to repair your sweet armour and weapons without paying fucktons of caps to merchants, it can actually make you a lot of money with weapon repair kits. Pick up a lovely broken minigun, use a couple of repairkits (worth maybe 50 caps apiece) and suddenly you have a full health minigun which is worth hundreds of caps. Another newbie tip is to remember the Holy 5 Pieces of Junk: Scrap Metal, Scrap Electronics, Wonderglue, Duct Tape, Wrench. These will give you Weapon Repair Kits when your Repair is high enough. Especially wrenches. The first three are everywhere. Duct tape seems to become more common in DLC areas (and OWB makes the first four even more accessible thanks to Muggy and the Book Chute). But by the end game, wrenches are always my limiting reagent.

To supplement this, if you happen to have Dead Money be sure to find the Weapon Repair Kit code and Return Cigarette Packs/Cartons codes for the vending machines, then scavenge any and all cigarette packs and cartons you find. You can get a ton of Weapon Repair Kits that way, since apparently everybody in Pre-War times smoked like a chimney. One of my characters, the one that found the Repair Kit code, has about 50 Weapon Repair Kits now. I could probably get more but I got tired of traveling back to the vending machine to unload cigarettes.

Unfortunately, if you have weapons mapped to numbers and enter a casino (or any place where they take your weapons), you'll have to remap them when you come back out.

How useful would the Junk Rounds perk be in Dead Money? Seeing as you don't have access to your uber gear there, being able to make some extra bullets out of all the random tin cans lying about could be useful. While we're on the subject, what would be an ideal build for Dead Money? I'm guessing you'll need Melee Weapons or Unarmed since ammo is scarce. A low level might also help to prevent the enemies from being bullet sponges. There's bear traps all over the place so you'll either need the Light Step Perk or a gently caress-ton of Doctor Bags, or just be really careful where you step. wafflemoose fucked around with this message at 05:39 on Sep 29, 2011 |

If you're a guns character you can pretty much one shot anything and enemies never come in large enough numbers to warrant carrying more than a magazine or two. The police pistol is accurate enough to sneak critical the ghost people, and if you really get into a bind you can whip out the Automatic Rifle. As for an ideal build, just sneak and speech and a combat skill. Energy weapons kind of get screwed, but not too terribly, you get a seriously alpha rifle.

Jeez I didn't want to buy this GRA pack as I have some sweet custom weapons. But it looks so loving good, blows the modding scene out of the water and my adventure with New Vegas slowly comes to an end anyway. I have seen everything the main game has to offer and from the DLCs only Honest Hearts and Lonesome Road are left to explore. I might as well finish this with a bang. Tempting.

Avocadoes posted:Please report some thoughts after you've been acquainted with it enough I love this game! I haven't enjoyed RPG this much probably since games like BG2, Morrowind, Fallout 2, etc. There is so much to do, and so many choices to make, it really has the same spirit Fallout 2 had. Fallout 3 was a decent game, but to world and story were a bit bland and empty to me. Here I'm just itching to explore the world, and try to shape the world the way I want through the decisions you can make. My only complaint is the combat. This real time/VATS combo still can't match the enjoyment of controlling your whole group in pure VATS combat. I really wish they would add that as an option for the next Fallout game. Also another thing is that things seem to die really easy. I have Boone and ED-E as companions, and everything seems to usually die before they even get close, even though I'm playing on hard difficulty. I'm only about level 15 and havent done any DLCs yet though, so maybe the fights get harder later. Overall its a really awesome game, and any Fallout or RPG fan should really get this game if they don't have it yet!

I made a Fallout: New Vegas Character Calculator/Planner. I got the formulas from the wiki, so I assume they are correct. I did a couple of builds to make sure it all adds up according to the values in the wiki and it seems correct. Here is the direct link to the Google Spreadsheet. Here is an example character to see how it should be filled out and what it looks like when it is done. Also a tinyurl to the spreadsheet in case you want to share it around easier. http://tinyurl.com/falloutnvcc "File -> Make a Copy" to save it in your own Google docs and start playing with it.
