What Lion incompatibilities are there with the current version? I've been running it ever since the upgrade and haven't run into any problems.

I actually just reinstalled Lion and I didn't even realize I was missing it. I installed it and it autolaunches on login without an icon in the dock. The difference is almost unnoticeable.

Definitely, also, according to the macworld article you should still be able to download the source and compile it for free if you want in the near future. $2 for growl... i'd have payed a lot more.

Just downloaded an app from the app store in Snow Leopard. App won't run, can't force quit it, can't delete it (Finder says it's in use). Tried rebooting, still "in use". How can I delete this app?

Jesus, this conversation again? And the main problem with charging for growl is that now it makes less sense for developers to build it into their apps. It's one thing to tell people "for notifications get this free program," and another for developers to tell people "for notifications buy this other software." Seems like a lot of developers will choose to make their own notifications.

Wasn't Lion supposed to have a notifications system built in?

I am going to be using it like every day but the program is pretty old and not resource intensive.

If it doesn't do what you want or you can't get it running, then probably Parallels. But since Virtual Box is free, it's worth trying. Note that these are virtual machines, not emulators, so you'll still need to install Windows.

They should also make it a probational offense to intentionally distort others' posts. What I've said about Sparrow both now and in the past is that, with the enhancements to Mail in Lion, Sparrow isn't worth buying now. Maybe it had a place prior to Lion's release, specifically as a GMail-focused app. But Mail is now so much better that switching to Sparrow now seems fruitless, at least to me. So, given a choice, I would get more use out of Growl than Sparrow, thus Growl at $2 becomes a better value than Sparrow at $10. This has nothing to do with being a cheapskate. Get real.

Seems like Growl is still free for 10.6.x and below, the App Store version REQUIRES Lion. Just tried to buy Growl from the App Store on a Snowy machine and it said: "Growl can't be installed on BadgersYOSPOSMac because Mac OS X version 10.7 or later is required."

We interrupt this program for a special Apple broadcast. I think I'll leave the Mac threads open though, since the only news pertaining to them should be 10.7.2 and iCloud.

So I installed Growl via the app store, but the only app showing up in the application list is Adium.. No Sparrow or anything else, what gives? I was kind of dumb and used AppZapper to remove all things growl before installing from the app store instead of actually reading their docs on their webpage and using their special applescript installer. Dang it.

I'll give it a day or two before I'll install the GM seeds. I think it was iOS 4.2 that had numerous GM seeds.

Not sure why there's still a MobileMe button in System Preferences in 10.7.2. I guess it's just for iDisk functionality.

I don't think that will go away until after MobileMe officially discontinues on June 30th, 2012.

I just updated to Lion and installed the new skype and I really like the growlish notifications. Is that their own proprietary notification system, or are they using some other framework that I could dig deeper into?

I haven't used Growl in forever, but I think Skype uses Growl if it exists and its own closed source thing if not.

When I went to install it on my new work computer I just noticed that Notify's developer abandoned developing the app, but did everyone a solid and gave out free licenses for anyone who still wants it. I like it a lot more than Sparrow, way less memory issues, etc.
