I'm a big fan of Omar-S, Green Velvet (Cajmere), Metro Area, so I'll have to see if it's any good.

Also if you don't like vocals in your dance tracks, that's sad. Good luck trying to get girls to dance to songs with no vocals. It's so much harder.

I never said I don't like vocals in the songs, some songs wouldn't work without them. Just listen to the first track and you'll know what I mean by "a little too vocal for my taste"

That comment wasn't solely directed at you, there was a guy on the previous page who said he doesn't like vocal tracks.

So Annie Mac is playing the Wrongbar here in Toronto on Oct. 29th. Is that THE Annie Mac, of BBC1 fame?

Has anyone ever seen her live before? Like, does she do a dj set or what?

MOO.
I saw her here in Miami about a year ago. She played about 2 hours, a DJ set obviously, a great mix of contemporary EDM (house, electro, UK funky/garage, grime, etc). We fist-bumped at the end of her set.

If you listen to her show you know what to expect, just a wide range of EDM. She's a really good DJ and if you like her show you will love her sets.

That's cool dude, where do you spin? A good crowd for this type of music (well any) is essential. Lot's of people don't 'get' this type of music, as if they were expecting some "hands in the air" Guetta poo poo. Thankfully people are educated around these parts and always make parties extra awesome.

I play in Toronto. We dont have a huge techno scene here, and I actually got pretty lucky with this booking. Its at a small venue but its going to be promoted well and will bring out a lot of the techno fans so it will be a really intimate show.

We have 2 clubs that play techno/tech house and they do all the big international bookings. Problem is they keep all their local DJs on contract so you never hear the music outside the venue and its the same people playing every week.

My friend booked Remain and did an EP release party for My Favourite Robot, the whole Toronto and Montreal crew was there to back him up. At around 2 am he started playing acid techno and laid it down, the crowd exploded and everyone had a wicked time. Remain looked like he was having so much fun. A lot of big deep house fans who haven't heard much techno are now asking for more. I think this city really likes techno, especially the deeper and classic/acid sounds. Stuff that hits really hard but grooves well and isn't really intense. It's just nobody is really throwing any underground parties and the 2 clubs I was talking about have a monopoly.

Yeah its probably her, although the other people she gets to dj with her are usually a million times more interesting. She usually does a wide range of EDM and any-time ive seen her its been ok not that great to be honest.

I was worried about clicking this and was pleasantly surprised when I did, glad Skrillex has been reigned in a bit on this track as the stuff he's done doesn't ruin it. Top track.

I might be REALLY off with my comparison, but I feel like dubstep is to electronic music as rap was to R&B in the 90's when the format was "R&B singer does her thing for about 2:30 minutes, throw in a quick 30-45 second rap verse and boom song is done". I mean it just sounds forced every time I hear a nice sounding electro song and then all of a sudden that WAMP WAMP WAMP WAMP sound for a quick second and then back to the nice melody to finish the song. It's just like whats the point?

Heres an example of a perfectly fine song that just feels like its throwing in some dub for the hell of it. Threw me off when I was listening to TATW last week.

It's incredibly funky, and I'm not even a fan of dubstep (only jazzstep really). "Waste Love" and a bunch of the ICE mixes on Fire&Ice are really good too. People seem to like the FIRE mixes more because they're more dance-y and filled with more bangers, but the ICE mixes are really low-key and still work on the dance floor, IMO.

Waste Love. It's tech-house-y and I really enjoy it.

annie mac is a bit hit & miss. i've seen her twice, once she did an across the board all genres mix (average at best) and the other time she did some dave clarke esque techno/electro ending on the noisiest 5 tracks ive ever heard in my life. the closer genuinely sounded like someone had sampled a train crash and stuck a beat under it. it was loving brilliant.

It's been a while since I've seen something so American. The intro to the news piece was like it was cut from a trailer for the latest Hollywood blockbuster.

Yeah it reminds me of the kind of crap you hear about during the old Acid House days over here, boring Audi-driving middle aged London bankers complaining about it all(though the old grannies get points just for being like grans should be). Teens drinking, doing drugs, dancing till all hours, moral panic! God bless dance music.
