Ah okay, I was going to say, that explains the "visionary" and "single minded" descriptors. Proscriptor descriptors.

Just got back from the Dillinger Escape Plan / Mastadon show. Dillinger was really good, though messy as hell and energetic. They played When Good Dogs Do Bad Things with Mike Patton! It was pretty nuts, I didn't know it was him until my friend mentioned that it looked like him. Only stayed for 4 Mastadon songs. The audience was probably 50% old dad age dudes. Ugh, people really love Mastadon. I don't get it, why are they so great? Maybe I don't "get" it, but a lot of other sludge is so much better. It was really boring and my buddy and I decided to leave.

All the old people were getting up to buy poo poo after DEP played their second song.

A couple of months ago I started following Extreme Band of the Day on facebook, and it's been pretty beneficial. The bands are usually pretty good, and I've been turned on to a lot of stuff that I probably wouldn't have found on my own. They don't spam up the wall at all either, as it's usually two or three consecutive posts. Worth checking out, imo.

Also, this is a really, really nice final statement about Flattus. Dave Brockie is awesome. http://www.metalinsider.net/updates...-status-on-gwar In short, the tour will finish and they're retiring the Flattus costume.

Are bands still cancelling from MDF a month before the show happens? I remember the one year I went Cynic was supposed to headline, but they cancelled right before the show happened.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ar2y1PyTWg I never heard of this band before. They're in Russia, but they sing in Finnish. Their newer albums aren't metal at all, but the early stuff isn't bad.

Are you just telling me you are a fellow Finn or do you really have something against Russia still? :P Also, I agree. The eastern block countries are really coming up with good stuff nowadays. Unable to do so until the fall of the Soviet Union, I see a lot of great bands popping up.

Some bands cancel the day of or the day before because of visa issues. Sucks that when someone applies for a visa, they find out 3 days before if it will be granted, and they can still be denied at customs. I think that's what happened to Lock Up last year. (I'm sure this varies if you get a tourist or work visa.) But yeah, bands drop off. With so many bands, it's kind of inevitable that for some band/s, something will come up. As long as Nasum and Brujeria play, I will be stoked.

My thoughts on new Megadeth were basically "oh dear no" after the first listen, but it really grew on me the past few days. It's kinda like United Abominations to me, a few songs are really stuck in my head but the others are just ehhh. Endgame was such a good album though and I guess I was expecting something like that again. His Halloween show on Jimmy Kimmel was pretty classic too.

This (along with a lot of Finnish metal, it seems, i.e. Moonsorrow) captures kind of a eerie/out-of-this-world/supernatural affinity/very very distant type of music. Even their newer stuff, which isn't metal and this thread may not like, captures that essence. What I don't understand is they are Russian, lived in southern Russia (Челябинск), and moved to Finland. Are they like me? Or did they grow up with Finnish? Are their ancestors Karelian? That'll be a fascinating story.

There was an interview a while back in (the Finnish metal mag) Inferno (I think), around the time their third album, Aava tuulen maa came out, of their primus motor, Anton Belov, who basically said he is a huge fan of Finland. Also something to do with living conditions not being all that good in Chelyabinsk. But what do you mean by this "like me"?

The closest I've come to them in terms of style would be Stolen Babies, they're not quite the same, but maybe they'll do the job for you. I remember reading that the dude who writes DSO's music is a big fan of them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpxesBrb8Ag

I've seen a couple of bands that come close. Some songs by Iwrestledabearonce do have a similar avant-garde theme, in the sense of making weird changes in rhythm. The singing style, however, is of a more "death metal style", at least for the most part. A more appropriate recommendation would be UneXpect. They're hard to listen at first, but it's definitely worth the shot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piaIjkxNjaY Also, I'll try Stolen Babies, since I had never heard of them.

On the bus on my way to work this morning I noticed the driver was listening to something with proper heavy riffs (I could only vaguely hear it as I was a few seats behind him). What I could hear sounded pretty familiar, though, and eventually it dawned on me that it was Blood Fire Death, no bullshit. Hail to the bus driver!

Has anybody heard the alternate mixes of Storm of the Light's Bane by Dissection? I recently purchased a re-released version of the album on iTunes and I have to say I really enjoy the alternate mixes. The songs are a bit more bass and drum heavy and I particularly enjoy the snare sound more than the original mixes. The guitar sound is a bit lighter mixed, but I think the over all tone is more clear.

So I don't know where to post this but I figure this is as good a place as any considering it concerns a famous metal musician: You know that really lovely wanky shred guitarist David Shankle who used to be in Manowar? For whose who don't know: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKf3OXIEPmM Well a friend of a friend of mine, MrCameronBarton, who's also a shred guitarist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjYHeOvQkZs Commented on Shankle's video with something along the lines of "dude your fingers aren't even matching the sound!" Shankle did not approve the comment, but instead sent him private messages in response. These are exact quotes from David Shankle: David Shankle posted:YOU ARE DUDE WHAT DO YOU THNK I AM NOT PLAY IN LIVE AND SOME ONE IS LINEING IT UP NOT AT ALL DUDE IT IS YOUR imagination LOOK AT THE FULL VIDEO MAN I AM PLAYING IT SHRED ON. note the fact that "imagination" is randomly in small caps. David Shankle posted:DUDE I SEE YOU PLAY NO BIG DEAL AT ALL AND YOUR TINE SUCKS SO LOOK YOU DO NOT LIKE ME SO WHAT STAY OFF MY SITE THEN MAN WHAT EVER Apparently Cameron was also blacklisted by EMG for "harassing Shankle." Apparently David Shankle is a giant baby who can't spell or type for poo poo. Or gets really really really blackout drunk and goes on youtube. Either way I hope he responds to poo poo like this often.
