How many t-shirts was it again they sold? 25,000 or something crazy wasn't it? And that was 4-5 years ago when I read that. And they were proper priced too as well. None of this silly punk merch thing of cheapest possible price. They were like 20 quid. Now pretty cheap for a t-shirt, but one gently caress off nice profit margin on that screen printed Fruit Of The Loom item.

At this rate we'll be getting BBK Airlines. Return trip to Ayia Napa only £99! I wish I was joking but remember Hed Kandi got an airline. JME the next Branson.

Ruff Lovin' is an ancient, ancient one and one I long since forgotten about to tell the truth. Honestly the amount of unreleased dubs Digital Mystikz, Loefah, Skream and Benga have is just plain ridiculous. You could be pressing them up and selling a single a day and it'd still take till doomsday to run out of tracks.

e: There is also a not half bad DFRNT remix of 808 State's classic, classic track Pacific out on Lo Dubs. Well I should say remixed Pacific 212 apparently(though to be fair I don't really see it), which is one of the many different original versions of Pacific, and my favourite version. If you don't know about Pacific then man, just give up now and drown yourself in yer morning porridge 'cause you really shouldn't be here.

Anyway thumbs up from me for that as it's normally one of those tracks you really shouldn't ever, ever touch unless you know you got some skill.

Well Zed's Dead puts on a pretty drat good show. My expectations were not high, but both their opener, Bass Science, and their set was amazing. They played for about two hours, had the crowd moving the entire time and even gave us a new song at the end as an encore that they claimed they hadn't played anywhere else. So many build ups and wicked drops I lost track, I think they even threw in Tiesto and Aoki's new song Tornado and mashed it up. It also helped that it was a 18+ venue and a Tuesday night, older crowd was in effect and it was pleasant, though one drugged up natty looking dude tried to fight someone right behind me for dancing with his girl.

I highly recommend seeing them if they come by your town, tickets were only 20 bucks and they put on a banging show. I can't wait to see them again at Lights All Night.

My friend told me Zed's Dead was his favorite set from Ultra trying to convince me to see them in April or whatever last year. All I knew of them was some "brostep remixes" on UKF and my respone was pretty much 'really?'. But I went to the show and they dropped Rumble in the Jungle which was super new at the time, and the vibe as I was tripping was so loving good. Song got them on Mad Decent pretty much, so different and just amazing. I've seen them 3 times total now and love their sets. They have progressed over the past two years and have a unique/fresh sound now, basslines are so dope. Undah Yuh Skirt track with Movado is a roller.

Business news now as ST Holdings pull most of their labels off Spotify.

Now I don't use Spotify or any of these other silly streaming service thingies, but I'm not shocked at how little it apparently pays per stream. Compared to even your traditional download ways, revenue from it seems pretty much nil even if you're streaming a million copies, and if it's effecting your actual real sales then obviously it's a big, big problem especially for these kind of smaller labels where those extra 50-100 sales can make the difference. And let's be honest a royalty rate of £0.002 is as good as giving it away.

Arguments about 'promotion' or whatever, blah blah. Maybe if they got paid what they're worth they could afford an actual experienced promotions company like what happened in ye olde dayes. Or maybe they could afford to develop their own in-house promotions company, with their own staff who are passionate about the releases.

I guess this decision by ST Holdings will make other major distributers like Cargo, SRD and Nu-Urban have a good think if they want to continue to be part of the service.

Yeah I remember seeing this before and being impressed at the pink dots. And hey if that's the royalty rate for streaming it makes gently caress all difference I guess if you stream it properly or just go on Soulseek.

A thousand odd streams nets you a single pound. Honestly the real victims here are the taxmen, how will they survive when they take their cut of such a small fee.

I'll have to check it out. A lot of Fabriclive mixes are that way, they're pretty smart about picking their curators.

Speaking of which Pinch is apparently going to have a Fabric-related mix out but it's unclear whether it will be a numbered Fabriclive or something else (I think he made a minimix for them when he went out to Aus/NZ for the first time). He'd be... the sixth bass-centric Fabriclive? First there was Caspa / Rusko, then Toddla T, then the Autonomic crew, then Pearson Sound? Am I missing somebody? I don't count the Freq Nasty one because it offends me, and I think Four Tet's leaned really heavily on classic garage, but... yeah, that's actually a pretty decent representative sample.

*e - Wikipedia says that Pinch's mix will be Fabriclive 61, in January. Something to look forward to. 62 is the guy who runs Critical Music, so more DnB I guess.

That would be Kasra. I'm actually pretty excited by that - Critical puts out some of the small amount of d&b I still really like, and Kasra is a fantastically good talent-spotter. He's the guy who first picked up on both Rockwell and Hybris and gave them their first releases.
