status posted:I saw Madeon in Toronto a while ago, and his live set is pretty good, but short. He played for around an hour and that was it. To be expected I guess, since he doesn't have a ton of his own material to play. His sound got cut off twice (At least one of the times was due to some idiot rushing at the stage) but other than that it was a great show. Also he looks like he's 12. It was really weird seeing someone so young up there. Watching some of his live shows on youtube, it's pretty clear that he screws up a few times, but the kid is clearly a talented DJ and is more fun to watch/listen to than people who play pre-recorded sets. edit: Also I've also loved his tastes in artists/samples text editor fucked around with this message at 23:22 on Nov 27, 2011 |

Seriously any time that we find a documentary of some hot young star they end up burning out. B2K Anyone?

Firaga posted:Saw Prosumer last night in a super intimate venue (100~) people. I have nothing but great things to say about this night, he brought several record crates and played a full vinyl set. It was a lot of fun seeing him get really into his music and sing along with all the vocal tracks. It was pretty much a straight old school house set. That rules, I've seen a few critiques on how the renewed interest in classic house is problematic in some ways, but I think that turn has been extremely beneficial over the past few years in New York. I resent to some extent how deep house has been appropriated to mean extremely boring house as opposed to the strands popularized at the shelter and sound factory in the 90s in new york.

Cyril Sneer posted:Thats great. I've had it in my head for a while now that I love to put on show for the whole nu-disco/Norwegian elektropop scene (The Magician, Fear of Tigers; the stuff on Tracasseur and Too Many Sebastians); I think it would go over pretty well, but I have no idea how to get something like started. Find the people already throwing these shows in the city, and just introduce yourself to the DJs, promoters, club owners. Show interest in the scene and what they are doing, spend some time with them. You don't have to kiss their rear end just be around and be a part of it. Also talk to people dancing their asses off at these shows, they are likely just as into it as you and you will eventually meet people who have similar ideas and develop a group that you can bring to an event. Most of this stuff isn't some sort of industry secret, club owners will gladly give you prices and most acts have a booking agent you can directly contact for a price. Also chances are the dudes that are already bringing these names over have a company or stick together so if you scout them out you'll have a pool of people you can potentially work with. After you spend enough time in the scene you'll figure out how it works and you'll have a better idea of what you can and can't do. Just be prepared to break even (if even) but if you're doing this for the right reasons you won't care. plogo posted:That rules, I've seen a few critiques on how the renewed interest in classic house is problematic in some ways, but I think that turn has been extremely beneficial over the past few years in New York. I agree with you, although I think the influx of popularity has lead a lot of DJs to switch over which in turn saturates the scene. Also a bad deep house DJ is really quite boring. I can't say I'm not guilty of hating on deep house sometimes. I question the direction its going in but then I see dudes like Maceo Plex and Julio Bashmore and I realize that sooner than later people will jump off the bandwagon and it will sort itself out. Their show/tour for this album was amazing. The live album looks to capture a lot of that *vivid imagery* they were throwing up. Shame they only come around every few years or so.
