I've been trying to get through the sly cooper collection. I've never played the sly games before, they just sort of slipped by me; I played all the Jak and Ratchet games so its sort of a given I should have played Sly.

I don't know what it is though, its not really grabbing me. I'm about 2/3 of the way through the first sly game but I'm not sure if I want to keep going if the other two are just more of the same. The minigames are sometimes pretty bad/unfair/weird and I just...argh. I should be liking it but its just not clicking. :sigh:

Really I think I should just chalk it up to it going up against super awesome games that came out this fall and I should mothball it until I get those out of my system.

I don't mean to downtalk the game, because I had alot of fun playing the Collection, which was the first time I played it as well, but I feel like I only enjoyed it at the time because I had nothing else to play. You can definitely feel that it's a last-gen game, and you could tell it was pretty much the first game they'd made, and the first in the IP. Go back to it later.

I know some people in here love Sly 1, but I still think it was crap, and not very worth playing. Sly 2 is the shining gem of that series, where the gameplay finally congealed into something awesome. Sly 3 is excellent too, but largely more of the same.

Just skip Sly 1 and try Sly 2. Go back to 1 later, once you care about the game (ie. if Sly 2 catches your fancy). You won't miss plot of note. Sly is a thief with a heart of gold, fox lady is a cop with a secret love of bad boys, stuff happens, and then Sly 2 spins off.

Sly 1 was okay when it came out but it's really just the framework for the franchise, plus it's the only one that's linear and is like 6 hours long. You could probably just power through it.

Yeah, later games went the way of open-world gameplay and that was for the better but leaves Sly 1 feeling more like a relic at this point. The best thing Sly 1 has going for it was the uniqueness of each level and it kind of took people by surprised. People thought it would be pretty kid centric and simplistic due to the character design and animation style but the gameplay was a lot more engaging and fun for the time.

It's not like Oddworld is doing anything else :smith: And this was part of releasing it on the PC, to give the game a fresh coat of paint.

I would take another puzzle game like Abe's Odyssey/Exodus if it was released as a PSN/XBLA. That seems like the perfect avenue for games of that ilk.

Jesus gently caress, I know. It is terrible not having a code. I checked out some beta footage yesterday and I am jonesing so hard and I never even played Warhawk. I even played ps1 Warhawk just to shut part of my brain up. Don't do that.

Sly 1 was my favourite of the series, but I haven't played it in years, so it could just be nostalgia talking. I've been meaning to try the HD version, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's not as good as I remember. The main reason I didn't like the sequels more is that in Sly 2, Murray and Bentley become playable, and Sly is the only character I actually enjoyed playing as. And then Sly 3 added even MORE sidekicks.

For comparison's sake, I think the transition between the first two games is similar to the Jak series. The first is more of a platformer, while from the second game the series becomes more mission based. So your opinion of the Sly series may be similar to that of the Jak series (the first Jak was also my favourite).

Yeah, like sometime mid 2012. "Thieves in Time" I think.

vvv For some reason Carmelita has a new voice actress in every Sly game. Like the entire cast managed to keep together except for her, it's weird.

Didn't they change one of the core voices in 3? I want to say... Bentley? I remember it being weird.

Personally I always thought Murray sounded different in 2/3 from what he sounded like in 1, but then again that's probably him just being "The Murray" in those. I actually just checked up on Sly Cooper on IMDB and apparently Sly, Bentley, and Murray have all had the same voice actors for all 3 games.

For those who've played Rayman Origins, how many hours of just playing through the game should I expect out of it? Without doing the extra jazz like collecting everything, etc.

My son (7-year-old) played the demo and I thought it might be fun. He liked it and he's a loving LBP freak, so I know he can handle most parts of it.

yeah wait for the GOTY version. If you've got a 360 or a PC that can run it, you'd be better off getting it on one of those. On ps3 with all the DLC installed in can get very buggy. I personally enjoyed the game enough to put up with it but you may not.
