There is a scene in Atlanta. From what I've heard, atlanta has some really great tekken players, especially. What games are you looking to play?

Most of it's all Capcom games now. I used to hang regularly to play Tekken but stopped going because the area has too much violence. Not to mention that while everyone is extremely nice, the place where most games are played is pretty disgusting. The apartment smells of body odor like you wouldn't believe.

Now I get texts regularly for tournaments and playing but it's almost never Tekken. Always SF or MVC

Facebook's group function has suddenly become much better than before. If you don't have a scene or your scene is too small, I'd recommend trying to make a Facebook group. We made one for our pre-existing scene and it helped it to grow a lot. Basically the chat for the group will show up on your Facebook if someone uses it, so even someone who joined on a whim will see people talking about playing games, saying "anyone want to play now?" etc. You can also post onto the group's wall and say something like "Anyone hosting tonight? I feel like playing KOF again" etc.

If you're trying to build the scene from almost nothing you could just have the group there and open, advertise it on SRK (you should post on SRK's regional forum to find people btw). Another advantage of Facebook is you can feel out a person by looking at their profile and decide whether you want to deal with them or not.

A Namco arcade in Bensalem, PA has Tekken 5:DR and sometimes the Arcade Edition of SC3. I heard the Pinball place in Philly closed down, but I think there's another place. A Game Shop in Glenside sometimes holds fighting game stuff on Saturdays/Thursdays, since a comic shop in Doylestown stopped their Summer fight nights.

So which stick would be better to order from 8arc? The Qanba stick slick, but I want more bang for my buck performance-wise.

Some of the Qanba q4's have a handle, that's pretty neat. Do note that Eightarc sticks are basically aesthetically different Qanbas. You have little-to-nothing to lose either way. Unless you want a handle, that is.

Then again the Eightarc Sapphire has Seimitsu parts already installed, which I like, but most people prefer Sanwa everything.

I couldn't find a Tekken thread, so I figured this would be the best place to ask. I just picked up Tekken 6, and it's my first online-capable fighting game. In fact, probably my first fighting game since Tekken Tag. I was wondering how the online ranking system works, because I remember hearing somewhere that it's hosed up in some way and it can trap you somehow? Since I'm dealing with quite a learning curve here (and about 20 new characters), should I just do random matches until I get better or dive right in to the ranking? I don't care about my stats at all, if that helps.

Also, I'm pretty happy that my fundamentals are still strong enough to win almost half the games I've played so far, even if I can't juggle worth poo poo online yet! If you're in a game with a little bit of lag, is it better to go for safe damage instead of risking the connection loving with your combos, or do you eventually learn to compensate? Seems like a lot of players avoid long combos, even it is obvious they are good enough to pull them off.

It depends you don't have to go for the most complicated juggles but you should be able to pull off your basic, launch>filler>slam>finish. As long as your getting like 60-70 damage off launchers you should be good.

Online in general is really, really meaningless for Tekken and if you want to get better in any real way, you will have to do it by playing people in person. If you absolutely can't play anyone in real life for some reason, then you might as well just jump into ranked matches, but it basically becomes a coin flip when you're playing online and isn't really representative of skill.

Searching for games by rank is meaningless because it's going to pit you against anyone. Rank means very little online but it's a safe bet that encountering anyone with Brawler rank or higher probably has a gimmick or basic knowledge of the game. Don't expect honor in ranked game. It's frowned upon to throw online but people will do it on the final round or down to the wire. I'm a nerd with 10000+ games online :keke:

Thanks for the responses. I didn't know throwing was bad etiquette, whoops. They have changed so much in Tekken, goddamn. None of the moves I used to rely on function the same way anymore, and I can't tell if it's lag or what but in some games it doesn't seem to matter what I try, my opponent's hits are always dominant. Guess I just need to put in the time and find out what works now, but it's hard as hell getting over these old habits/routines.

The concept of "etiquette" in a fighting game, much moreso the concept of throwing being "bad etiquette" is disgraceful and laughable. What, are the Tekken police going to dock you points for trying to win using legitimate, basic tools that are available ingame to everybody who plays?

Honestly, online is pretty meaningless if you actually want to get good. Offline is where you want to be if you're aiming higher and if you live in the states, then you're lucky. Try not to take online seriously, Tekken online as of now is really inadequate. You might as well just take steve or bryan for online and just mix it up, because it's not important and no one would care about you being an online warrior.
