Anybody want some ridiculous techno? I don't usually play this stuff is it was a real treat playing this for a crowd. I got drunk and had lots of fun, expect a lot of filters (lovely digital filters :( ), loops and extended breakdowns, effects, and techno thats so ridiculous its almost funny. This is all for fun so hopefully I make you dance in your room. Sound drops out a few times on last two songs because I was helping the DJ after me set up. Mostly improv, just for fun. Hope you have as much fun as I did.

His live show is really enjoyable; I saw him at ACL this year, and even though they had him playing in daylight, the lights show was fantastic. Oh yeah and his music is really awesome. Anyone who gets the chance to see him really needs to.

And it's good to know I'm not the only one who thinks levels is really unimpressive. I'm dumbfounded at all the hype and remixes it's gotten in the last few months

It highlights some pretty staggering numbers. The Deadmau5 vs. RATM one really stuck out to me.

I'd be more interested to see what the action is like on the grass roots level. The people without the major label backing. The non-overnight Beatport sensations. The small clubs and nights, the labels etc that should be about if you want something to actually take root. Filling out big massive arenas - while obviously impressive - means gently caress all if that's all there is in the town for the next year, and people just treat it like it was the circus or bloody Pink Floyd rolling through with a stage show. One night only special, bye bye see you next year back to normality tomorrow. No way to create and develop a scene or culture that's actually going to last.

After all wasn't it about 10-15 years ago when everyone in the States was going on about the whole Big Beat thing, then Tiesto etc who still manage to make big bucks over there. Skrillex selling 170k digital units to a bunch of rock fans, or David loving Guetta hitting number 5 in whatever American charts it is, just strikes me as potentially falling into that same rhythm of boom>popular for a minute but not actually taking root>and bust.

Basically big major label numbers and sold out arenas and megaclubs are all well and good, very impressive but has it built up naturally or have they just skipped straight to the end while missing all the important build up in the middle. The stuff that'll actually give people ideas and inspiration to keep on doing doing there thing, keep on developing and keeping course through thich and thin, whether it's 2000 people in the dance or 20.

Of course at least now you do seem to have a lot of US based artists making good music that seem to be getting gigs in all sorts of small town America places, and not just LA/NY and over here in the UK and Europe. And I know several people here put on their own nights in their town, keeping the faith and spreading the word. So there's always that which is a very positive sign.

At least for me I think the change has come from advances in production. Like you said Skrillex is selling albums to metal-heads. Electronic Music is becoming less of a genre and more of a medium.

Get a full tank of gas and a copy of 'dubnobasswithmyheadman'. Hop in your car, start with track one, pick a direction and go. Then get 'Second Toughest in the Infants' and continue driving.

Second Toughest has something they don't do much anymore -- just the first two tracks clock in at over 30 minutes. Everything on their latest albums seems bite-sized in comparison.

Or you could wait for the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics.

28 Gun Bad Boy your point is pretty much the same as what i've been saying.. there's no lasting scene of any of this. Electro and dubstep are novelties whereas the labels, clubs/events and most of the artists will be over here and Europe. Where's the chicago house or detroit techno 'scene' today..

I dunno I think the chicago house pitchfork/internet revival has been quite salutary. The revival of retro house has had quite a few grassroots events in ny. To give two examples, take Let's Play House and Dope Jam's monthly parties. Let's play house started a few years ago and has moved since from warehouse parties to to spots in the manhatten playing stuff like this http://soundcloud.com/lebain_thestandardny/le-bain-x-lph-with-tiago-love. Dope Jam's, on the other hand, coverts their record store in brooklyn monthly and plays sets like this http://www.dopejams.net/112311.html
