Here's a solid mix that might have slipped under the radar, Gui Boratto for XLR8R Podcast. It's basically a live set, but he does some really great twists on album cuts, some of the best minimal house in forever. I love this dude

MOO.
I saw Orchard Lounge last night, had never really heard of them before. Tag teaming DJs, I think 3 guys and a girl. Each one had their particular style of house going - my favorite was the dude who was playing out solid acid tracks. Some of them were even spinning wax. Really a great house party, check them out if they're coming through your city!

Oof, a Brodinski b2b Gesaffelstein would be tight. Their release on Bromance (Brodinski's new label?) is pretty cool.

Ha I was like why does this sound so areoplane-y. I wasn't a fan of the song years ago when they started demoing it out live (and the album version). I'm glad its a single so we get a proper disco mix.

I've been listening to this Cory Enemy teaser a lot: http://soundcloud.com/cory-enemy/cory-enemy-fukke-ep-teaser. Most of its pretty mediocre but the track that comes in around 1:20 has a pretty awesome lead. Sounds like it might be a big track.

Azari & III on the essential mix this week. Overall I really enjoyed the mix. I felt like it didn't really go anywhere, didn't expect it to end/thought it was ending earlier, and I didn't like the really cheesy deep house. But oh boy are these guys talented. Some great moments and some awesome tracks, I can't wait for a tracklist because I'm going to take it apart.

Tycho's live show is super killer, but don't expect a lot of theatrics. The visuals on this tour and the band are both WAY better than previous years. He got some new players, and he's using new software (VDMX I believe) and it's a loving killer package. It's great when people recognize a song just off the intro pad and start freaking out like 2 minutes before the drums even drop.

I don't mean to take the thread too far off topic, but I had a thought today: If SOPA passes, do you think it would have an impact on electronic music as a whole? Could record labels suddenly decide that a song of theirs remixed by an indie artist offered for free on a blog is "piracy"? I know about sampling under fair use, but this whole SOPA craze has got me all :tinfoil:

The bigger and more obvious samples that weren't cleared and successful, yes, but a lot of the non-commercial disco tracks are in copyright purgatory and orphaned, meaning that the label the originally owned it is now defunct or cannot be contacted. These, somehow, are STILL protected by full copyright even though they cannot be licensed in any form whatsoever in the US. Intellectual property laws here are really stupid.

Also, mashups and other stuff wouldn't go anywhere, they just wouldn't be on websites anymore. People would probably go back to the communities like Soulseek and other peer to peer systems.

Also, barely any sampling falls under fair use, so if someone remixes or samples a song without authorization, they are violating copyright. There's really no getting around that.

This is why we need an proper intellectual clearing house. IF the works are orphaned and covered under copyrights SOMEONE SOMEWHERE can pay a sensible fee for the work.

Also the sampling cases of the 80s were terribly fought.
