So...today I scheduled an MRI for some issue, that's not important. I have been wearing my Wacken and Party San bracelets since 2008. They're basically a part of me and they've been a part of my appearance for 4 years. Without a derail about what a disgusting sack of crap I am for wearing non-removable jewelry for years, I ask this... I have to cut them off. There is no way around it, I cannot have metal of any kind in the MRI room. Do any of you collect your fest bracelets? And if so, do you do anything special to preserve or display them?

Ugh, the most disgusting habit. Thankfully I don't go to any fests big enough to use anything more durable than crappy paper wristbands these days  Anyway, if you want to keep them, see if you can take them apart by just breaking apart the crushed metal tog first, that'll leave you with more options. If you have to cut them, then you may also need to melt them a bit/put some plastic on the ends to stop fraying. I know a few people who take their wristbands apart and then sew them onto removable bracelets (cotton/leather) so they can wear them or not as they please. Other than that, a fair few sew them onto their cut-offs.

But I still keep it on my bookshelf as a memento, as well as the unused ticket I was left with after I accidentally gave my friend my own, already used, ticket and she managed to get herself a bracelet with it. I also have the Wacken 2004 towel hanging on my wall as a makeshift tapestry. Sorry for the rambling, but it was a loving awesome trip.

Then (slightly more justifiably, but still hella rudely) the same meatheads booed Cristina Scabbia when she came out for A Tout Le Monde. I almost got into three physical fights during Megadeth's set alone, why are Megadeth fans such horrible people

I saw an awful lot of Dads with tucked in Metallica t-shirts and kids with fedoras standing outside for the Megadeth show. Can't imagine a couple hours of Dave Mustaine whispering into the mic could be good. I'd still love to see Motorhead though, never need a reason to see them.

You have a good list of death metal in your post. I'd say give Entombed a try since they are a fundament of the genre and have awesome groove going on. They're miles different from the likes of Cannibal Corpse but are awesome. This one is a cover but it has the vibe I want to convey they have. Then there's Skeletonwitch, who have been shat on in the past few pages but I totally dig. They have that thrash thing straight from the 80s with awesome subdued melodies kinda like some Amon Amarth songs. I was just listening to this song on the way home and it made me air guitar in public. Yeah.

From your list I see that you like the female fronted stuff a lot. Check out Epica, not only for that, but for the fact that they named themselves after a Kamelot album and you also like them. After Forever is probably up your alley as well. Folk metal: Eluveitie are big and fairly accessible. Falconer is probably something you would like (skip the albums without Mathias Blad). If you want to go back to its roots, Skyclad.

Within Temptation, I don't know if you've listened to their earlier stuff, but I liked it during that phase - before they decided to become Evanescence or whatever. Yeah, it's because the current singer sucks at clean vocals. If you have an ear for pitch correction and poo poo like that he can be hard to listen to because it's very very obvious. It's a shame because the music is pretty good. Skyclad is one of my favorites and is one of the few metal bands I've found non-metal people will tolerate, at least their newer stuff is. My friend who is into legit folk like with banjos and stand up basses and poo poo likes them. And she better after dragging me to those concerts. I have a Wintersun album but I haven't listened to them very much so I can't say. Your tastes are relatively similar to mine a bunch of years ago, so I'm going to ask if you've listened to Symphony X or older Sonata Arctica, because those still hold up for me now.

Gigantour was pretty good in Lowell tonight. The crowd was not very large, unfortunately. Lacuna Coil opened and played for like 30 minutes, not really my thing but Cristina Scabbia has an incredible voice live. The bass was insane for most of the set. Volbeat was surprisingly good live, I didn't really like anything I'd heard from them but they put on a really fun show. They were egging on the pit that started and the singer was swigging from a bottle of Jack Daniels, so you've got to respect that. I thought my little brother was going to cream his pants with joy when they played Reign in Blood, though Motorhead was loud like always, but pretty low energy and Lemmy looked pissed off at the mosh pit and just in general when he got out. But then again, Lemmy always looks pissed off. Mikkey Dee did an amazing solo and really kind of stole the set. God drat dude went for like 10 minutes. Megadeath was Megadeath, I've seen them twice before and didn't go away disappointed but they didn't really wow me. I was way up front getting pushed around in the crowd with every one else and got some lovely phone pictures. When they did A Tout La Monde with Cristina, you could barely hear her over the crowd, but it was probably the highlight of the show, that or Hangar 18. Or Peace Sells..but for personal reasons.

Here is their bandcamp Utah Metal Goons: These guys are headlining SLUG Magazine's Localized show, and if you have five bucks you should head to the Urban Lounge on February 10th. They're really great live. Do not come if you are a drunk rear end in a top hat who wants to start fights. Other Awesome Metal Bands from Salt Lake City: Huldra - Also on the bill for Localized, these guys play really great post-metal in the vein of Rosetta and ISIS without sounding derivative. Castleaxe - Previously known as "Speitre" (and after changing their name so that people would pronounce it correctly) these guys just play awesome metal, and you should listen to them. SubRosa - A little higher-profile, but with really awesome and unique sludge metal riffs that incorporate two violinists. If you ever see these guys live, say hi after the show because they are really awesome people. Let me know what you guys think. I'll post more if there's interest.
