Not death metal in the slightest, but Symphony X's latest album is pretty sci-fi.

Also, while it's an instrumental album, Amogh Symphony's Quantum Hack Code has a decent sci-fi story in the narration. The music is also exactly what I imagine warring computer systems to sound like.

Your second argument is not convincing.

I mean, I guess I can tolerate Arjen when he's making his Dutch drug-addled prog-pop-rock but whenever he attempts to create metal it's just so unbelievably cheesy and stupid. What I'm trying to say is that My House on Mars is a song that I would willingly listen to but anything off Migrator II is awful awful awful tripe. 10100100101010111 or whatever that album was was such a crock of over-built bombast that I couldn't bring myself to like it. Hahahaha yeah, that's true. But he does create some pretty good poo poo. On the musician level I think he's supurb, despite the lyrics. Maybe 1010001010110 isn't really "metal" and delves more into simply prog or even just experimental, but it's actually pretty good as a concept album.

Each to their own. Personally, I love Migrator II for its concept of a journey through space and time. It took a long time to grow on me though, and while Migrator II is definitely not the best metal, I haven't found anything else comparable to that scale of cosmic epicness.

Pestilence- "Spheres"

Crystal Age- "Far Beyond Divine Horizons"

Jaws- "A Metal Tribute To 'Aliens'" ....yes, it is a concept album entirely based on the film, with lots of samples.

Supuration- "The Cube"

edit: just remembered a couple more.

Nocturnus- "The Key"

Edge Of Sanity- "Crimson"

Seconding "Sidereal Journey." Not without its flaws, but still works very well. Oxiplegatz' prior album, "Worlds And Worlds," is more straight up musically, but still very sci-fi oriented, and worth checking out.

edit 2: fixed the spelling of "Supuration." May still be misspelled, but that's how the band spells it.

^^^ The guitarist you are thinking of is Mathieu Marcotte. I saw him when Augury played at my city. Since I was one of 4 Augury fans there, we hung out with the Augury crew all night. Nice guys, but Mathieu is very very French. I could barely understand him.

Nocturnus' album The Key was not only a technical death metal milestone back in 1990, but was also a crazy concept album. The story of the album follows a cyborg who goes back in time to the year 0 B.C. which eventually leads to the destruction of Christianity and the creation of a modern empire (I stole the synopsis from Wikipedia). I figure that's sci-fi enough.

My favorite song is Droid Sector.

Also the girl doing vocals moved to Texas, but she and I have similar screaming voices so it's do-able.
