Chronicle had already some nice posters that could caught your attention. Well, I guess the guys from marketing thought it would sell more in my country if we saw generic explosions in the posters.

To be fair to Chronicle, I think a guy actually does throw cars and poo poo around with his mind. The above never even comes close to happening in Push (there is a guy with psychokinesis, but the biggest thing he lifts with it is a gun).

Actually in that poster it looks more like he is shielding himself from an oncoming explosion instead of causing it.

Also doesn't really happen in Push (I think he bounces back a bullet in this way at some point, though). Honestly, its a pretty low-key film.

Not at all, it's about the assassination of a South Korean dictator. It wasn't really funny either.

Yeah, that poster is fantastic. Shame about the movie though. (I hated it.)

Speaking of South Korean movies, The Yellow Sea never had a good poster to begin with. (even though it's a great movie albeit with one of the least convincing car chase sequences I have ever seen)

But this is just awful. Screencap and unnecessary name change included.:

They're aping Old Boy. I think a lot of Korean films that are being brought over here are getting Old Boy rip-off covers.

Apr 8, 2010

Speaking of name changes, guess how this movie was originally named:

It's for the german release of Banlieue 13. Strangely enough it was first released under the original title, but once it went to DVD somebody had apparently decided that the current title was not "hip" enough or I don't know what the gently caress. Oh, also note the weird perspective and horrible lightning, and I'm pretty sure that there was never a single helicopter in the entire movie.

Yeah he blocks a shitload of projectiles and stuff thrown at him from the other dude at the end of the movie and it looks just like whatever he's doing in the poster.

No big explosions or flying cars at all though...

I'll have to dig out that DVD cover for Largo Winch: Deadly Revenge I posted in the old thread, which featured a helicopter gunship, an F-16 and an exploding skyscraper. Guess how many of those things appeared in the movie. Duh

Have you seen Dark City? Legitimate question. Maybe I'm just willing to give it a pass because its desire to look "late 90s wicked cool" is done really well in the movie. I see what you mean though with video card font and flashy lights.

Yeah I have, though admittedly not since the wicked cool late '90s.
But still, the film was totally noir and that cover art totally isn't, it looks cheap and a little tacky. I like the city scape itself, but the fonts and the colour scheme are awful. Floaty heads don't have to be terrible when they're appropriate, but here it really solidified the 'computer parts box art' resemblance to me.

The Triumphant posted:

The DVD cover's really bad though

Kind of worth it, though, because the DVD disc itself is printed to look like the chambers of a revolver, which is really good design.

Also, fun fact, this was the last film ever released on VHS.

I always used to laugh at this cover in the video store for how crummy it looked. Viggo looks like a Muppet.

What you're describing is more a problem with the character than the actress though. Then again, you might be right. It's been quite a while since I watched an episode of Modern Family. And to be honest there are a few other actors on that show I'd like to see more of anyway (Ty Burrell).
