I remember getting into this genre two years ago but never could find a blog to keep up with it. http://www.funkyhousemusic.com/ Best one IMO. They've been doing it for about seven or eight years now, always seem to have the best mixes, EPs, Producers, and news. And peep http://www.tracasseur.com/ for cheesier, pop-sensible, indie-dance type stuff. Still good for easier listening while maintaining filter, funk similarities.

Anyone else listen to the new John Talabot album? I'm not going to lie, I didn't know about it until Pitchfork reviewed it, but it is loving AWESOME. It's kind of like a housier version of The Field. That is, not very housey, but with very rhythmic, repetitive beats that slowly turn into awesome grooves. I would say it's housier than The Field mostly because the beats are more dancey than head-noddy. I guess John Talabot is a Spanish producer, so obviously there's going to be a little dancey side to it. Opening track, loving awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8F5YqS28-ZI&hd=1 another p sweet track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S42Oz8TY0JY&hd=1

I've been following his movements since he released "Sunshine" and goddamn he is a great producer and DJ. He really understands sound on an organic, emotional level that you don't see too often these days. I got the chance to see him at Sonar a few years ago, too, and he was excellent. Here are some mixes of his if you haven't heard them yet: http://www.factmag.com/2012/02/06/fact-mix-315-john-talabot/ http://www.xlr8r.com/news/2010/07/listen-john-talabots-remix-xx http://soundcloud.com/john-talabot/summerized-mix

Is there no in between? And I never want to hear the word trance again. My ex co-workers killed that genre for me.

Maetrik is a crazy producer and I wish he preformed under that moniker rather than Maceo Plex but Im sure I'm in the minority. Maybe I just like the idea that as Maetrik he's producing techno that's actually interesting and forward thinking. Edit: Maetrik - Revenge of Jack http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jG1xupxIHVg The whole EP is just unreal but that track stands out to me the most I think. You might like Arty's Essential Mix from February 11th - it's 2 hours long so there are some tracks I could live without but in terms of recent Essentials this is top notch. The mix goes from progressive, to electro, to trance, to dubstep and back again. Arty and Mat Zo collaborated on "Mozart" and they have very similar styles. http://www63.zippyshare.com/v/55834641/file.html Also, Otto Knows - Million Voices is my new guilty pleasure http://www.dancingastronaut.com/2012/02/otto-knows-million-voices/

This is what I do. Since it's a mixcloud mix. You can click on tracks within a mix that you like and it will bring up similar mixes with that track in it. Listen to those as well. Click on tracks in those mixes you like. Rinse repeat. Next thing you know you have the names of a whole bunch of artists that produce similar music. Look at the names of artists that remix the tracks in these mixes that you like and search on youtube for them, Listen to tracks you like. Then go find albums that you can buy, download, etc...

Can you guys give some constructive criticism on it? He's looking for some feedback. There are some areas that could be shortened. The part from ~1:05 - 2:00 could be cut in half. It doesn't really add anything to the energy. Overall the sound design seems okay. This might just be personal preference but I feel like the energy is moving in and out of track unnecessarily and not bringing in anything new until the last minute or so.
