I thought you were supposed to do that in order to actually complete the mission 100% (that is, be able to train Militia in Balime afterwards)? I think there's a series of steps involving stuff like breaking into the back rooms, unlocking an alternate exit, using stealth mode, and turning off the alarm and security camera, but I'm not sure.

Mister Bates posted:I have never tried NCTH before because new things frighten me, and now I don't have any particular desire to ever try it. I don't think I could ever play without NCTH again. Aimed bursts are just incredibly fun, and it leads to a much better endgame than 7.62 NATO rifles on everyone. I've gone through most the game using Colt M4A1s on my normal mercs, and for Grumm and Alma I finally added a couple of sniper rifles and mortar guys. It would be nice to give a bit of a pity bonus to unscoped weapons though - something like 1/2 of the aim levels as a magnification factor would probably work decently.

Are there any variables in the .ini file that could be changed to buff up unscoped rifles?

Unfortunately I can't really find any, but I guess you could go through each rifle in the XML and give it 2x scope factor by default. I might try to make a new build of SVN 4870 that incorporates my idea though, stay tuned!

After a half hour of programming, it's complete! Jagged Alliance 2 1.13: Iron Sights Edition It's a drop-in replacement for build 4870, the current stable. Just run the Iron Sights Edition in place of ja2.exe in the folder. It gives a gun using ironsights a magnification factor equivalent to 1/2 of it's current aim level. For example, a G3 (Max 5 aim levels with Reflex sight) at full aim level would receive a 2.5x magnification factor, but at the first and second aim clicks it still has 1.0x magnification. This was literally two lines of code. e: Iron sights also have no minimum range, so it might be wise to tactically remove the scopes from DMRs when you know you'll be fighting in close range. Sorry for the double post. brainwrinkle fucked around with this message at 07:31 on Feb 19, 2012 |

I finally did it. I finally feel like I figured out how to play Jagged Alliance 2. I started up my game with my IMP outfitted to be a crazy shotgunner. After clearing Arulco by myself, I waited a day so I could use people from MERC. I hired Bull, Meltdown, Haywire, and Razor. Took Drassen airport just spraying and praying, and then bought a bunch of replacement ammo and poo poo, including a machete for Razor and buckshot for my shotgunner. Meltdown has all the magnum ammo she could ask for, and even Ira is outfitted pretty well. I trained up a bunch of militia and had them escort me to middle Drassen. I am now covering Razor while he stabs people in the neck like some kind of god, Meltdown is making shots I didn't think she could, and my buckshot is ensuring that no one I point at ever has enough AP to do anything serious. autoweapons/machinegunner is the greatest. I cannot fully express my love for being able to accurately burst at dudes, never mind being able to mag dump at several dudes and loving murder them all back to the stone age. I did just take cambria, but now I'm going to order some more guns and things and start up Team Specialist, which will include snipers, mortars, and etc. Probably a medic, too. Also, hey, did they change the mercs' traits in the most recent version? Igor has loving hunting of all possible things and this is unacceptable. Where/how can this be rectified?

I have taken the middle city with the hospital but I am starting to think I don't have enough mercs at all. I only have 7 now that Dmitri and Ira were killed off (ira 10 mins ago, Dmitri about 3 play hours ago). I feel sad, but I will overcome this! Ira got interrupted at night and riddled with bullets. Dmitri was running at the 'final' enemy in a map who was running away, and the final final enemy appeared behind him, surpressed then killed him. My other mercs were too far away to help. lessons learned: -scout with night vision imp at night. -never leave mercs unattended. So I hired barry and a bunch of guys from merc as well as some other aim merc. Wish me luck, I'm going to split them into 2 squads this time.

When you eventually get at least 2 full squads going it's really weird when you attack a sector and there's this huge ball of mercs there. I'm too used to just dealing with a select handful of specialists instead of a crowd of thugs.

I generally prefer to run with three or more squads in the late game, but I never attack with more than two at a time - more than a dozen guys at once gets to be kind of hard to manage. The main reason I even have that many is so that I've always got at least one squad combat-ready if needed, even if some of them get completely trashed in a particularly difficult fight. It also allows me to attack multiple sectors simultaneously if I so choose, which can speed up the capture of a city immensely.

The third squad is for filling up with the heavy weapons specialists, all carrying mortars and as many shells as they can put on their person (weight restrictions? pff… it's not like they're going to move), and then you fill the entire map with craters and vast clouds of mustard gas. The other two squads pick off anyone who accidentally wanders outside the safety of the gas… Takes about 90% of the game to save up for it, but it's sooo worth it to take Meduna without moving more than 5-10 tiles into the map.

Unfinished Business question: At the power plant is the entrance to the missile factory through the ventillation fan. Upon your first visit the fan is scripted to be shutdown for one minute after some amount of time, but after that it should apparently shut down one time each day. Does anyone know what time this is? Is it random? In-game minutes are longer than real minutes, so I don't want to leave the game running for 4 days just to cover all the minutes in 24 game hours, but I was hoping to enter undetected and throw some knives around. I've scoured the internet and the question has only come up once on ja-galaxy-forum, but no one knew the answer. It seems odd they would have something in the game that is so obscure and random that over a decade later still no one knows how it works.

That reminds me, clicking the "talk" button and talking to a merc out of battle reveals they all barely tolerate each other. Scope actually politely insults Lynx if he goes off on his "women should be kept barefoot and pregnant" tangent.

So Unfinished Business isn't worth playing? I'm curious, does it give you new maps, quests and NPC's? And if so, was any effort placed into it? Because, while it was forever ago, Deadly Games was awesome. Is this Deadly Games for JA 2, or crap? It's only 5.99 at GOG.com. Is it worth it after beating JA 2?
