To be honest, Kingdom Hearts isn't really that crazy. I mean, it's crazy, but it is crazy in the same way a comic book or whatever is. It's a simple stand-alone concept that keeps getting retcons piled onto it because they want to keep the franchise going, each successive retcon adding a layer of bullshit on top.

When the games are played in order of release (KH-CoM-KH2-Days-BBS) you can actually make sense of it, as a kind of insane progression. Of course, it just gets more and more ludicrious the longer it goes on. What I find incredible, is that they want to continue this series after the so-called "Xehanort Saga", which will just lead to another layer of pure mindfuckery. Who'd have thought a game about a kid being friends with Micky Mouse would be so loving complicated? Pesky Splinter fucked around with this message at 17:03 on Feb 24, 2012 |

So, I'm replaying KH1 and I've just locked Hollow Bastion. I'm now trying to finish up synthesizing everything and was wondering if anyone knew of a good spot to farm crystals? Throughout the entirety of Hollow Bastion I only managed to get a single Bright Crystal, and that was with killing everything that showed up. So any advice?

I just recently went through the synth crystal grind and here's my advice: Go to gamefaqs and look up the item synthesis FAQ and the mushroom hunting FAQ http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps2/516587-kingdom-hearts/faqs/19539. Bright crystals drop off defenders, a good place to farm defenders is in Traverse Town, a bunch spawn in district 3 and a few spawn in the hotel hallway. I got all of my bright crystals relatively quickly there. I would just wait and go through the End of the World before you start farming, because you'll need Gales, which only drop off of the enemies that appear there.

Echoing what DrTasty said, the hotel is amazing because it not only has 3 shields, but also 4 wizards and some dark orbs if you need stuff from them. That said, I think I ended up with about 3 of the goofy shields and 2 wizard staffs before I ended up with all the crystals I needed. It's quick to clear though once you get in a flow.

I got an e-mail from Sqeenix today, and one of the things in it was that some games were 50% off at their store until the 29. I saw Kingdom Hearts in the image, so I clicked the link to load the page. If you own a PSP, but don't have Birth By Sleep, it's on sale for $9.99 until Thursday. Edit: Is it OK to post a link to the store page for it?

Well that pretty much puts to rest any of my remaining fears that 3D will just be another 358/2D. Looks like they're actually giving it a reason to exist. Though from what I've seen of the systems, I think BBS will still be the better game. None of the systems in 3D really excite me that much so far. vvvv To be fair, anything after BBS is going to be compared to BBS, so they could still be perfectly good systems on their own, but they just look kinda meh because BBS hit it out of the park in its combat, leveling, and other systems. chumbler fucked around with this message at 07:37 on Feb 27, 2012 |

It will make sense later, I promise. Although I think there's a way to reload premium cards using an item and/or making them not the first card in the sleight? no it's definitely Lea trying to redeem himself, especially now that he has his heart back I'm sure he just wants his bff Roxas back so that they can eat ice cream together forever~~~ His heart was thrust into darkness, and if Riku is any indication, it can take a lot to come back from that.

You can see both at work in worlds like Atlantica, where dolphin merman Sora helps solve the issues of Hans Christian Anderson's misogynistic cautionary tale by… singing terrible songs about fins. While I don't want to defend finny fun (urgh that song), and the world would have been much better gotten rid of, what is the author suggesting? That Sora use the keyblade to bloodily and painfully cleave Ariel's tail into legs and rug salt into them, only for her and Eric not to get together making her fade into sea foam a la the original tale? Now if only that were one of the songs.... The rest of the article I agree with, for the most part.

Reading that article reminded me: what the gently caress is a kingdom hearts? In KH2 it's the heart-shaped moon that they wanna use to turn into humans, but what is it exactly? And in KH it's just an... entity that is never explained beyond the villain wanting it.

^^^ [e]:Beaten. It's true form is that of Scrooge McDuck's money bin, which is filled with all the money Disney and SE have made from this series. It's just a macguffin. It just serves as something that everyone wants, and is vaguely phrased as being a source of ultimate power. And that's the purpose it serves in the story.

I thought Kingdom Hearts was the heart of all existence, and without it, game over. In semi-KH news, I just got back from doing One More Disney Day at the Magic Kingdom. I saw 5 different people there wearing KH shirts, and my kid saw a sixth. I keep hoping that Disney will catch on, and start selling KH merch at the parks (in addition to selling the games).

In the first game there's a little flashback sequence where Kairi's grandmother tells her a creation myth about how there used to be one big world which got broken into fragments by the darkness. I think the idea is that the big Door To Darkness at the end of KH1 leads to the husk of that original world and that Kingdom Hearts is an object/location within that world.
