She is loving brilliant. I didn't even realize she had a lisp, to be honest. That just makes her even more endearing. The first track of the new album just grabs you immediately, and is still my favorite. It's like this strange companion to Bon Iver's Beth/Rest, in that "no, seriously, are you SURE this isn't a song from 1986?" vein, just coming from a different angle. It's like mall pop for hipsters. The first track is the best, and the rest of the album doesn't disappoint. It was good enough to make me pick her up previous album (Geidi Primes), but I've not gotten around to that, yet. e: Ohhhhh, listening to "Be a Body" in headphones, yes, there is the lisp. Never noticed that before! Am I a 21st century male who cares only about her artistic ability? Yes. Does that make it any less adorable? Nope. ExitMusic is a husband wife duo, and the wife, she plays Angela in Boardwalk Empire. I know that face So I'm really excited for that concert.

Those of you who like indie pop/rock acts with a chick vocalist you should check out Field Mouse. Also, I'm pretty sure the guitarist is a goon though I don't know his username. I found out about this band when he or another member posted a thread about their album last year or the year before. The album is really solid though.

In regards to Grimes, yeah, I love the new album too. "Genesis" and "Oblivion" are two songs that I just can't stop listening to and I love the rest of the album too. The debut album from Trust came out a few days ago, and while I wasn't a fan of theirs at first, their new material is actually pretty solid. The new Miniature Tigers album is almost out, they are a pretty good indie pop/rock group and you can listen to their new album here: http://www.spin.com/articles/first-spin-hear-miniature-tigers-sexy-mia-pharaoh-lp They seem to be taking somewhat more of an electronic twist to their usual mix of indie pop with some more experimental songs. Anyway check it out, I dug it. Also @ Field Mouse, is it me or does this sound a lot like a modern The Field Mice? Maybe its the name. St. Lucia is an up-and-coming artist who's released four songs over the past year, and I've loved every one to death. His newest one is available to listen over on Spinner.com, hopefully followed by his debut album sooner rather than later. His first single, which charmed me instantly, is also available to listen on his Bandcamp page, if you want to hear more. I've never heard pop music so perfectly suited to my taste. And for once I get to say I was a fan from the very start.

There is not enough music in the world to ever satisfy me. Here's some poo poo I've been listening to lately: Mean Jeans, Ramones style punk rock. Petition and Traveling are definitely two of my favorites though. I also saw Starfucker this past weekend and it was an AMAZING show. They might be pasty white kids (really nice btw, signed my poster  ) in pastel shorts and surrounded by a crowd of obnoxious teens, but they know how to loving rock out. Listened to the new Magnetic Fields on Grooveshark. They're my favorite band. I'm seeing them in a few weeks. This new album is awful. Most of the songs feel like nails on a chalkboard from the first measure. None of them seem to have that flow I like and seem to plod along. Maybe I need get used to it, but I don't feel like there's anything here I'm going to be listening to in a couple months. It seems like even the best bands fall victim to the effect of first few albums being better than the latest ones. I only like 2 songs each from the last 2 albums before this latest one. Contrast this with their first 2 albums having nothing but personal hits for me. Really hope their set is only a few songs from this album. /sperg rant

I guess personally I don't think the decline is that dramatic, though, particularly since I put "Distortion" up there with the 90s stuff and that's pretty recent still. I think in this album and the last one there's a bit of influence from the "Showtunes" album he did a few years back. Some of the songs seem a bit, 'mechanical' I guess I would say. I'm not sure how to explain it but I'm getting similar vibes from them as I did from that album. Like, the songs have a purpose and they serve that purpose well, but outside of that purpose they're not engaging enough. For example "You Must Be Out of Your Mind" is a great, great song and classic Magnetic Fields as far as I'm concerned, but then on the same album you've got "Painted Flower", which is more of an exercise in songwriting than anything else. It's silly to say this about the guy who wrote "69 Love Songs", though, since so many of those were deliberate genre exercises, and that didn't stop them from being wonderful. So basically yeah, I don't know. This did get me to listen to some 69LS songs which I haven't in a while. "Underwear".

I stumbled onto them after seeing that they had a Tegan and Sara cover on the album. After I downloaded the album from bandcamp, the frontman friended me on Facebook. So at least he's friendly? No idea if he's a goon. E: Lost in the Trees have an album coming out later this month, and are on a national tour right now. Go catch them because they are wonderful. Can anyone recommend anything that sounds like Boy and Bear? They're an Australian group that to my uneducated ear sound like a more folky New Pornographers. Check out Rabbit Song and their cover of Fall at Your Feet. Rad stuff. Are there any other indie groups that use didgeridoo that I'm unaware of? Islands are playing in town tonight but it's 21+

I am pretty surprised to have not seen a single mention of CHAIRLIFT, though I hope absence here is evidence of ubiquitous love. If not, they're...I'm not very good at this...a synth/electro duo with female vocals and an 80s/new wave (kind of) sound? That description doesn't begin to do justice to their artistic ability, but to me, they sound like the perfection of the recent wave of nostalgia for fast, passionate songs with hooks that are distinct while sounding like old hits, like the best music of a whole decade, imported from a slightly different alternate universe. Within two weeks, they have eclipsed the competition on my most played list. Wrong Opinion, Met Before and Sidewalk Safari are fantastic songs, but almost all the songs are really good. So in other words, even if you hated Chairlift's last album, at least give this one a chance.

In terms of Grimes her split EP with d'Eon, Dark Matter, is much more like Visions than either of her previous albums. d'Eon is mediocre, but the Grimes songs are great.

Chairlift is cool, but I don't really feel I can judge them fairly due to all the fake 80's nostalgia they dig up? Also Boy&Bear guy, I assume you know Fleet Foxes? They (FF) always sounded like a more popular and somewhat boring version of them to me. And the new Imagine Dragons EP is really good Y'all

I saw Yamantaka//Sonic Titan on the weekend not knowing anything about them. It was an amazing experience!
