Yeah unless it changed hands again it is, and Atari's pretty bad these days. Here's hoping if/when Atari goes over a cliff the MoM IP gets bought up by someone that isn't EA or Activision.

Been trying to replay the first game and I just have no idea what the hell I'm doing, what stats affect what skills and how, or anything else. I also started the game in true post-apocalyptic fashion by immediately running to a radiation-saturated area to the north and dying before I knew what was what. At least I'm using a team I made myself and loaded up with extra bullets from the generics I deleted. :toot:

I think the people who are getting upset about the recent big kickstarter projects are drastically underestimating the net gain to the smaller projects from the influx of new people and expanded awareness of kickstarter.

I had not even heard of kickstarter before the doublefine thing, that got me into funding the Wasteland 2 project, and I will continue to fund any small projects that I find now that I am aware of the site. I think overall this is going to be positive for even the really small four-five figure projects. It's a great model.

One question, that black gate guy says in his post that Amazon takes 10%? I thought it was only 5%?

Kickstarter takes 5, Amazon takes 5. Then you have to account for unfulfilled pledges/renegers.

edit: He seems to be under the impression that Amazon owns Kickstarter, but I can't find any evidence of this.

So, I'm no Quarex but as a huge Fallout 1/2 Fan who's never played Wasteland, I'm considering running a video Let's Play from a new player's perspective and posting it.

My main question is this: I'd like to create a custom band of Rangers but would like some sort of theme behind it and was wondering if anyone had any good ideas?

Also, I was going to play some suitably post-apocalyptic music in the background so that it wouldn't just be my voice and nothing else. Sound reasonable? I've never actually done a Let's Play before and I imagine running one for Wasteland would take quite a while.

Agreed. I certainly knew what Kickstarter was, and I had a vague awareness that the Double Fine thing was going on, but I also was never actually interested enough in anything I heard about via Kickstarter to actually care until I logged into Twitter for the first time in six months on March 5 and saw Ken St. Andre say "welp, Brian Fargo hired me for Wasteland 2" and my head literally exploded. Literally.

Being "no Quarex" is particularly helpful if the way we differ is that you have enough time to do this justice. It would be a particularly interesting experience hearing someone who had never done it before--though you should be prepared for the possibility that you realize after about six hours that you cannot actually get accustomed to the old-style game (but your annoyance could still be funny).

Mordaedil's advice about posting a test-something in the Sandcastle would probably be helpful for you to make sure you had things figured out (I guess anyway, that was the first I had heard of the Sandcastle).

Playing Fallout music while doing your Let's Play might seem like the obvious choice, but could I humbly suggest you play Juno Reactor's "Luciana" and go a completely different horrifying route? It worked great for my horror/post-apocalypse tabletop game!

Not that I want you to jeopardize your education or anything, but I really, really want to see an informative screenshot LP of Wasteland, where you show all of us how the hell the game works and how to break it in half. I will raise my donation from $30 to $75 if you get the LP started before the kickstarter ends. There aren't any problems with multiple LPs for the same game, even at the same time - especially if they're a different format (video vs. screenshot, for example). There's also no rule on how fast or slow an LP has to be, so even if Quarex only has time for an update once every week or two, it wouldn't even be the slowest LP around.

Quarex: I've done several screenshot LPs of some very long games, including while taking a very heavy course load at college, so if you decide you want to go for it, feel free to PM me any questions, test posts, etc. and I'll try to give you any advice I can. :)
