Yeah, it is kinda long. The low end on Dayz is pretty understated/weak so that was my attempt at coming out of it without it sounding like I'd forgotten to turn the bass pot back up. Anyone got technique suggestions for that kind of situation?

Yeah we are already in the planning stages for GATF 2012. We're doing it a bit earlier in the year this time around rather than matching it with the beer fest, which will give us more outdoor venue and event options. Should have more info coming out soon

Thanks F. Lobot, I'm glad you dig it. Should have a new mix ready for public consumption in the next couple days, but I wanted to ask my own question of the Goon Musicians.

Can anyone tell me about premium membership for Soundcloud? Only being able to upload 120 minutes is pretty piss-poor for someone that wants to be able to present as many mixes as possible so I'm willing to spend some :10bux: Is it worth it to step up to the ~$100 per year to get 10 hours and unlimited downloads?

Also, if someone is a premium member already and would get benefit from my referral, let me know and I'll credit you.

I have the 36 hour pro account. Got it for mega-cheap the first year due to being part of their beta, and then have just sprung for the cost of it ever since

I will likely be dropping it down to a lower account when I'm up for renewal in May, as I'm working towards getting an actual website up with which I can archive a hell of a lot more content on. That way I can keep my soundcloud footprint to just current mixes

Yes, I'd say the upgrade is worth it. I've got ten hours and am already maxing out it again. DJ-sets will do that to an account.

Also, the ability to share to multiple groups is a good thing. Check if there are any discount coupons active right now before paying.

Just some constructive criticism: the mix from D.A.N.C.E. to Heartbreaker was rouuuuuugh. Trying to mix two tracks that are vocal is always going to sound bad. Seems they were not beatmatched by about .5 BPMs as well. Heartbreaker into Nymphae was great though!

Guess it really all depends on what you want to do. Do you want to be a bedroom DJ, do you want to spin at clubs, etc.? What is your budget.

Personally I've always had physical turntables, so these look like toys to me. But whatever helps you learn.

Oh just a bedroom dj or like friends house parties or whatever, not looking to get into djing clubs or anything big like that. I guess I would say $600 would be my budget really, I could get a mixtrack pro whenever because it's fairly cheap but anything expensive I would have to wait until fall.

I know this isn't the hardware thread but I'll reply here anyways.

I started off the same way as you, Virtual DJ with no sound card or headphones or anything. It helped me learn some of the basics..but without being able to cue up your next track, listen to it along with your current track etc you're going to be seriously limiting your ability to grow.

Same goes for a lack of physical controls. There's a lot you can do just DJing with a keyboard and mouse but you'll never get the kind of fine control that a number of knobs and sliders will give you (as well as the ability to adjust more than one thing on the fly). EQ blending is SO MUCH EASIER with knobs.. SO SO MUCH EASIER.

The Mixtrack Pro is a great bet, it has a built in audio interface, a good number of knobs and dials and solid enough construction that you'll be able to bang away at it for a while. And it's cheap enough that you'll be able to learn on it but won't feel bad about getting rid of it when it's time to move to something more serious. This is what I should have gotten instead of my Hercules RMX (which was a good purchase too but a little long in the tooth when I bought it).

If I had one piece of advice to give you on your mixing itself (I like your song choices) it would be to spend some time learning about phrasing. This article from DJ TechTools covers it pretty well and I bring it up because I noticed your mix-ins can sound a little early/late, like they could have waited a bar or two to start. I think everybody does this at first..my first bunch of mixes are TERRIBLE for this and I shake my head wondering what I was thinking at the time. Ahh, learning is fun :)

Edit:
I'd love some feedback on a moombahton mix I did last month, moombahton is kind of my thing and I've been whoring it madly for the last year or so. It's a real genre, I swears!

Lock up your daughters and hide the subwoofers, this is happening:

It was fun this time to work within the constraints of only using bootleg tracks. Thankfully, I had a few of my favorites I was able to pull out of the ol' Rolodex, but also found some new hothots that have been included as well.

Listen/stream the whole uncut mix off of SoundCloud.

Get a .rar of the individual (gapless) tracks @ http://www8.zippyshare.com/v/72590238/file.html

I appreciated all of the input I got off my last mix, interested to hear what everyone thinks of this new offering too.

it's 'bumbaclot' you dweeb

Have you ever danced with a crapatar in the pale moonlight?
Here's a recent mix I did-- it was my first stab at using a drum machine along with some of the tracks; it largely works (I think). Very Dettemann and Klock heavy, 125 BPM, etc:

Well jeez, now I feel pretty ignorant. Dare I ask what that is?

Also its basically the Jamaican common expletive instead of "gently caress".

Just recorded a new mix for the first time in ten months. Been DJing house parties and a few places here and there in that time period, never wanted to record a mix because I didn't have access to a mixer and headphones at home, but I bit the bullet and finally recorded one anyway due to numerous requests from friends.

Recorded on Traktor Pro with a mouse for EQ and a Kontrol X1 for loops and cues. It turned out rather nicely for the situation, but let me know what you all think.

Mostly dubstep, I know the flavors of SA are more house-y but I'm definitely open to any criticisms outside of hardware issues (I'm in the process of building an actual setup).

I loved this, the last half hour was a good kick in the arse. Well done

Thanks man :) this other mix I did has a lot more techno, since you like the last half hour of electron machine.

literally "bum cloth"

"blood clot" is tampon, "bumbaclot" is rear end-wipe.

Would you mind uploading this as an .mp3? 800mb is a bit too much for my limited connection to handle I'm afraid.
