Jedi Knight Luigi posted:You sure took your time transitioning from "Can't Sleep" to "Dayz" though. Yeah, it is kinda long. The low end on Dayz is pretty understated/weak so that was my attempt at coming out of it without it sounding like I'd forgotten to turn the bass pot back up. Anyone got technique suggestions for that kind of situation?

Lurker Alert: been following the thread for a while, after coming back to behind-the-scenes mixing after quite a bit of time away. This one, though, is a finale of a '90s Big Beat love-letter mix trilogy I wrapped up last year -- with some bonus modernism -- which might hit the spot for those with the right memories. Only being able to upload 120 minutes is pretty piss-poor for someone that wants to be able to present as many mixes as possible so I'm willing to spend some Is it worth it to step up to the ~$100 per year to get 10 hours and unlimited downloads? Also, if someone is a premium member already and would get benefit from my referral, let me know and I'll credit you.

I have the 36 hour pro account. Got it for mega-cheap the first year due to being part of their beta, and then have just sprung for the cost of it ever since I will likely be dropping it down to a lower account when I'm up for renewal in May, as I'm working towards getting an actual website up with which I can archive a hell of a lot more content on. That way I can keep my soundcloud footprint to just current mixes

Yes, I'd say the upgrade is worth it. I've got ten hours and am already maxing out it again. DJ-sets will do that to an account. Also, the ability to share to multiple groups is a good thing. It's been almost two months since I've started, I'm kind of confident in my mixing abilities. Whenever I've done it in front of people they've been generally pleased I think. Hoping somebody digs this one. I did get a bunch of the songs from the Implicit & Suneel – Juno Funky House 10 mix, wasn't trying to copy or anything I just try to make mixes of songs I've recently found (still working on amassing my djing folder because I just started really listening to house maybe 8 months ago). Anyway here we go: http://soundcloud.com/bonhommerichard/3-13 quote:1. D.A.N.C.E. (Eli & Diplo Remix) - Justice vs Diplo e; Forgot to say this was recorded live with Virtual DJ.

Just some constructive criticism: the mix from D.A.N.C.E. to Heartbreaker was rouuuuuugh. Trying to mix two tracks that are vocal is always going to sound bad. Seems they were not beatmatched by about .5 BPMs as well. Heartbreaker into Nymphae was great though!

What is your budget. Personally I've always had physical turntables, so these look like toys to me. But whatever helps you learn.

Lock up your daughters and hide the subwoofers, this is happening: It was fun this time to work within the constraints of only using bootleg tracks. Thankfully, I had a few of my favorites I was able to pull out of the ol' Rolodex, but also found some new hothots that have been included as well. Listen/stream the whole uncut mix off of SoundCloud. Get a .rar of the individual (gapless) tracks @ http://www8.zippyshare.com/v/72590238/file.html quote:Track List (Hottest tracks in bold:)

Oh just a bedroom dj or like friends house parties or whatever, not looking to get into djing clubs or anything big like that. I guess I would say $600 would be my budget really, I could get a mixtrack pro whenever because it's fairly cheap but anything expensive I would have to wait until fall.

Kinda interested in one of these: http://www.numark.com/product/mixtrackpro I know this isn't the hardware thread but I'll reply here anyways. I started off the same way as you, Virtual DJ with no sound card or headphones or anything. It helped me learn some of the basics..but without being able to cue up your next track, listen to it along with your current track etc you're going to be seriously limiting your ability to grow. Same goes for a lack of physical controls. There's a lot you can do just DJing with a keyboard and mouse but you'll never get the kind of fine control that a number of knobs and sliders will give you (as well as the ability to adjust more than one thing on the fly). EQ blending is SO MUCH EASIER with knobs.. SO SO MUCH EASIER. The Mixtrack Pro is a great bet, it has a built in audio interface, a good number of knobs and dials and solid enough construction that you'll be able to bang away at it for a while. And it's cheap enough that you'll be able to learn on it but won't feel bad about getting rid of it when it's time to move to something more serious. This is what I should have gotten instead of my Hercules RMX (which was a good purchase too but a little long in the tooth when I bought it). If I had one piece of advice to give you on your mixing itself (I like your song choices) it would be to spend some time learning about phrasing. This article from DJ TechTools covers it pretty well and I bring it up because I noticed your mix-ins can sound a little early/late, like they could have waited a bar or two to start. I think everybody does this at first..my first bunch of mixes are TERRIBLE for this and I shake my head wondering what I was thinking at the time. Ahh, learning is fun Edit: I'd love some feedback on a moombahton mix I did last month, moombahton is kind of my thing and I've been whoring it madly for the last year or so. It's a real genre, I swears! Rickets fucked around with this message at 06:30 on Mar 16, 2012 |

Just recorded a new mix for the first time in ten months. Been DJing house parties and a few places here and there in that time period, never wanted to record a mix because I didn't have access to a mixer and headphones at home, but I bit the bullet and finally recorded one anyway due to numerous requests from friends. Recorded on Traktor Pro with a mouse for EQ and a Kontrol X1 for loops and cues. It turned out rather nicely for the situation, but let me know what you all think. Mostly dubstep, I know the flavors of SA are more house-y but I'm definitely open to any criticisms outside of hardware issues (I'm in the process of building an actual setup). http://soundcloud.com/styliferous/heres-that-thing-i-did-march Track List posted:Mala - Enter Dimensions
