Rhyno posted:I got around to driving the car today and it's a blast, no shuddering when it shifts and there's barely a speck of rust on the car. Interior is wonderful for the age. He has only owned it a bit over a year so he doesn't know if the valve lash adjustment has been done. Mileage is accurate, the car appears to have been garaged most of it's life. The bad thing is it turns out the seller is an old friend of mine so I feel bad about low balling him. Regardless, if I can convince the girlfriend I'll probably own it by next week. Great find! I could only wish that mine was as near to good as that one is. Hopefully it holds together for you as long as you have it.

Well the girlfriend isn't too thrilled but I'm giving him a deposit tomorrow. I have rent to pay and a few bills to catch up on this month but he's cool with holding it for me. This will bring me to the halfway point for realistic dream cars. Edit: Gave him the deposit an hour ago! Just need to get paid this week and it's all mine! Yeah, see if you can find a good local shop that has worked on them before considering a convertible. They are seriously complex, but goddamn they look incredible with the top down. I'm definitely looking at a mid-60's Continental as my next major project, but can't decide if I want to go the convertible route or not. Just about any car is worth that in scrap, how is someone supposed to get a car to race for under $500 these days? It's hard to find anything for under a grand, much less half that. That said, I suspect 90% of the people at lemons just cheat.

Tai-Pan posted:I guess you had better just find a roll cage on the side of the road though. Safety equipment isn't in the 500, safety equipment also includes things like brakes. Also it's 500 net, so any parts you "sell" can pay for modifications. I gather it's within the spirit of the event to cheat, creatively anyway. astropika fucked around with this message at 08:00 on Apr 25, 2012 |

Wow, maybe I need to scrap some of my spare RX-7s. 7 of the drat things (5 first gens, 2 FCs) have followed me home over the years. Especially since only one runs and drives at the moment... Need to go dig a few LSx's out from the wrecking yards and bastardize the ones in good shape, body wise. Hard to justify rebuilding the non-turbo rotary when the rebuild kit is $1000. I can find a 4.8 or 5.3 LSx with ECU for that, I bet, possibly with transmission, and at least 3 times the HP.
