I'm using ThisIsMyJam, and someone on my list just posted this great indie rock (?) song: Foe - A Handsome Stranger Called Death I'm listening to the full album right now, and it's very cool. It's hard to describe it, it's a little bit grungy but with some pop influences. Check it out.

If I ever hear "Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space" (the album or just that line from the album) again I will probably buy all the opiates in the world and then take them and die, so I'd like to avoid that if at all possible. None really.

I've never seen them mentioned, so here's a couple that I like: Sassparilla is from Portland, but they make it down to Eugene a lot which is pretty awesome. They're pretty awesome live: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2G5ZbmrxtA The other is Jason Webley, he's done an ablum with Amanda Palmer but overall he still seems to be largely unheard of. Can't find any decent versions on youtube, but here's a live one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9X3y1LU4oY Can also hear his stuff on Grooveshark.

Anyone remember Lodger? Not that loving British band, these guys are from Finland. Their music videos were flash animations of these one eyed characters. According to Wiki they're indie rock. I remember watching them when I was 12, wasn't exactly sure what the heck they were on about and I sure as poo poo wasn't a music person back then. Sure as poo poo though listening to them again, their songs are full of cynicism and sex, a sort of social commentary. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiWru_0YsH8 It's been quite a few years since they've released anything after 2008. I heard they sorta disbanded but anyways they're going to be releasing a new album late this year or early next year. http://www.lodger.fi/ They must have gone through like 2 or 3 websites but yeah. Also their twitter.

I debated making a thread for Father John Misty, but for now... Father John Misty is the alias of 30-year-old Josh Tillman, who until last year was the drummer for Fleet Foxes. Got your attention? Probably. He's done some solo work in the past, but Sub Pop has since inked him. His stuff certainly draws comparisons to FF, but it's a bit more accessible. His lyrics are pretty fun, too. The album, Fear Fun, comes out next Tuesday (5/1). He did a video for "Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings," which, while well produced, features the uberpolarizing Aubrey Plaza. You have been warned. (That said, I think it's the best song on the album.) Stream the album, c/o the AV Club

I found them the other day as well, absolutely amazing band. Working on their album at the moment judging by their facebook page. Monument Valley is another great solo folksie artist that my friend introduced me to the other day, he only has an EP out at the moment but every song on it is amazing. Dear John Letters http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r78HvGEYsys Valentines Park pt 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pd6WMu-_U14&feature=related are probably my two favourite on the EP at the moment, but I can never bear to skip any song on it.

I don't know how everyone feels about music in other languages, but I happened to run across an awesome Chilean band that has a really good, dreamlike quality to their music. And the lyrics, if you can understand them, are generally very good. Even if you don't understand Spanish, give it a try, because the music is really good. I'm currently really keen on these dudes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zn7zskRSfTw&feature=relmfu Zeks are a perth band who have raised a few eyebrows on account of being fairly challenging and weird band with full-on LFesque politics (Bear & ray are both refugee rights activists) and some fairly amazing almost mathy rhythms. They do have an album on the way, hopefully it wont be as muddily recorded as their original demo.

I have no clue how popular outside of Canada they are, but here's a a pretty great song for people who don't know about them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4y67Gbz0GM They just released a new album a couple months ago and I'm seriously digging it. It's way less folk-y from their last couple, but they can really make some great rock songs.

Have a bunch of Australian bands: Firstly, Husky are a folk band set for big things, after releasing their first album Forever So last year they played SXSW, were just signed to Sub Pop (making them the first Aus band ever signed to the label) and will be supporting The Shins on their national tour later in the year. I'm seeing them next week in Perth. History's Door: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlWph8X18sc Dark Sea: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gey_wfeaHYU Dappled Cities(formerly Dappled Cities Fly) are a weird art-rock/pop act, their last album Zounds (2009) was seriously awesome, and the new single they just released is sounding even better. The Price:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjurx2QUa6Y&feature=relmfu Holy Chord:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnD115DH6uw Run with the Wind[b] (new single): http://soundcloud.com/dappledcities/run-with-the-wind Big Scary are a male/female duo from Melbourne playing a mix of fuzzy garage rock and piano driven emotional angsty pop. I love this thread and I love you guys. To the people who recommended Coma Cinema, Foe, Neptune, and Foxes I loving love all of them. I just got a ton of new music so I need to sift through it all, but so far these two songs are gravy: White Ring has this song called IxC999 that hasn't been posted here yet, but it's pretty sick. It's really dark, but the gunshots and vibe is amazing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7XJHiLSKKk Foxes in Fiction is this really dreamy, ambient band. I recently saw Math the Band and Anamanaguchi play a show. They are both ok in the studio but great live. They play faced paced electronic music, amamnaguchi is 8-bit. At the show they were incredibly intense and both the band and crowd were really into the music. I recommend seeing either 'em if they are in a town near you, and you have 15 bucks to spend.

Knowing what Jason Pierce is going through, and that this may be the last Spiritualized release, is it inappropriate for me to want to cry through this entire album? This entire album plays like a man who is facing death but has come to terms with it in some sort of beautiful way that I never could. I want to listen to this album forever. I pencilled the Grimes album in at #1 shortly after its release, and I don't know if it's leaving yet, but I am definitely reaching for the eraser.

I never thought I'd get to see Modest Mouse here, and I'm still up debating about Beach House just because it's the weekend after Pitchfork. Battles is here in June, and though not indie or anything, I'm losing my mind at the thought of seeing The Bouncing Souls and The Menzingers together in August. Then other cool stuff is St. Vincent (today actually), Tune-Yards, Los Campesinos, My Morning Jacket/Band of Horses, Death Cab for Cutie/Andrew Bird... it's shaping up to be a great summer.

I've seen Battles twice and I will try my best to see them every time they come to the midwest. Very little downtime between songs and their buildup into their next songs is great. They've got great energy and stage-presence. I just saw Death Cab last month after waiting nearly 10 years and it was worth it. They played a great mix from every cd they've put out and even had an orchestra backing them, which at first seemed like a poor gimmick but actually went really well with their songs. See them!

Super Furry Animals haven't been on hiatus for three years now, but everyone in the band has been making music. Just this past week, Cian and Guto have put out songs from their own side projects. Here's Cian Ciaran's "You & Me" off his upcoming solo release, Outside In: http://soundcloud.com/strangetown-records/sets/cian-ciaran-1/ And for something a bit different, here's Guto's band Gulp, which is the least SFA-like of all the new bands: http://soundcloud.com/e-l-k-1/gulp-game-love I'm seeing Beach House in Miami Beach tomorrow night. I'm not a fan by any means, but my girlfriend really wanted to go. I hope they win me over. I'm not imagining an impressive live show, but we'll see. Out of all the cities in which I've lived, Miami and the surrounding areas have been the pits for live music. I take what I can get.
