Another interview, this time from Gameinformer Magazine:

I'd normally try to transcribe it, but gently caress it:

To sum it up - Ninja Theory isn't Japanese. (duh)
More stuff they treat as innovative, but has actually been in the series since at least 2. (weapon changing during combos, etc)
Alternate modes of play as well as being able to revist previous levels. A return for the Bloody Palace perhaps?
More Angel/Devil Arms and guns.
No QTEs.
Stand alone story (duh), but with "familiarity in some characters and themes" (an attempt at fanservice probably).
Ninja Theory isn't a force of evil sent to destroy the DMC series. (The road to hell is paved with good intentions. :colbert:)

source:http://devilmaycry.org/community/threads/gameinformer-interview-issue-230-pg-68-nothing-really-new.10917/page-2

[e]: I got over intensely disliking it when they redid Dante's redesign so he didn't look like a drug-addled rent boy. Now I'm apathtic about the game itself, but curious about what the end result will be.
Considering the bizzare publicity and the rather less-than-underwhelming, game footage. And all the talk about how great the story is blah blah blah.

I just can't help but think it's going to be the best NT game they've ever made, but one of the lesser DMCs, or one of the DMC clones. If I'm wrong, and it turns out to be the best things since, well, Bayonetta, then I have no shame in admitting that my preconceptions were unfounded, and that I was wrong.

And yeah, the art direction is pretty nice. But that's really where NT's speciality lies - certainly not with writing.

To me at least this game has sounded like it's improved tenfold since it was originally announced.

I mean I'm still somewhat sceptical, but I no longer hate hearing about it, as each thing just seems to be mentioning improvements. And as unlike the previous iterations as it is, I do quite like the art direction of this one, looks nice.

This hand of mine shines and roars! It's bright cry tells me to grasp victory!

No QTE? Well at least Ninja Theory learned one thing from their past games my god. I dunno though with how they describe the "triggers" it does sound painfully close to heavenly sword. I played that and found it was really god drat bad so if this is similar to that then fuuuck.

All these interview just sound like they don't have the confidence to let the game speak for itself and instead have to keep saying how great the story is and that the gameplay is so unique does not fill me with confidence. That is never a good sign. It's way beyond the usual hype and strikes me as way strange at this point.

I dunno every interview from them just seems like they have no understanding of the DMC series. People wouldn't be so worried if they were just like "Hey we know DMC and all the good stuff is in our game, styles, weapon switching mid combos, that goofy yet serious story line, we got it all covered." then they could mention some favorite parts from the last games and everyone would be all on board. Instead they constantly talk about how original they are and how great the story is. Why is the story great? Cause it's great duh.

I am not a fan of the triggers thing but if you can actually cycle through all the weapons in combat in a fluid manner then the game has a shot at being interesting, I think. I always liked how you controlled which attack you were doing in the previous DMC games by button rhythm- so if you wanted to do a heavy attack you kind of had to think about it beforehand and input the right stuttered string of button presses. It really prevented button mashing!

Bayonetta sorta straddles the Strong Female Characters argument as it is, I don't know if she'd be palatable having (a male) co-star like Dante of equal legitimacy in it considering she'd probably end up simplified to pure sex appeal (veruss being a competant smartass with sex appeal).

Looks like DmC will be released on the PC: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/05/22/dantes-peak-dmc-devil-may-cry-pc-bound-in-2013/.

Most of Capcom's stuff is on Steam, so I guess it's likely it'll go on there along with DMC3 and 4. I hope they put a discount on those two while promoting DmC; if it sucks, then at least I can have the best two games on my account on the cheap.

Promoting DMC3 for PC will probably do way more harm than good, it is an awful port. DMC4 goes on sale regularly during the big Steam promos.

I'm glad 'DmC' will be out on PC, at least there will be one avenue to play it at 60 FPS. The console versions are scheduled to be released on Jan 15, and the PC release is a nebulous "later". Why do PC ports always get the shaft on release dates?

My guess is that it's to prevent the PC version from being leaked or cracked at release, allowing people to pirate it. By releasing the console version first, you have to buy it on a console in order to play it as soon as possible.

Not that this is a good system, seeing that the number of legitimate PC customers far outweigh the profit lost due to piracy. It shouldn't even be difficult to port, considering it's on the Unreal engine.

It's also a flatout lie and misconception developers have too. A PC game using Steamworks can't be pirated until after the game is already out, yet I see 360 games get leaked and pirated weeks... even months before the release date.

Info on that woman that Dante follows around, or follows Dante around:

Kat

Kat is a former runaway that joined The Order very early in her life. She is a medium and a gifted psychic who can see into Limbo, the demon realm, but not directly interact with it in the way that Dante does. She is the right hand girl of the Leader of The Order and devotes her very life to him, often putting herself in grave danger to gather intelligence from Limbo.

There is a sweet innocence about Kat’s world view and logic, but when it comes to her specialist subject, the demon realm, she is an undoubted expert. Kat is The Order’s ‘eyes and ears’ and is tasked with guiding Dante on his mission through Limbo.

Judging by the bindi (the jewel on her forehead) and the mehndi designs on her hand, I think they seem to have been inspired by Hinduism for her design. Well, those parts anyway.

Not really alot to say about it otherwise. It's no Lady or Trish, but (thankfully) it's no Gloria either.

A DMC sequel in the works? :crossarms:

quote:

Publisher plans to reduce release cycles for sequels to 2.5 years, blames series' extended hiatus on switch to external development.

Capcom doesn't want to keep its fans waiting for more of their favorite series. The Japanese publisher today released English translations of executive comments indicating that it wants to wait no more than 2.5 years between sequels, starting with franchises like Lost Planet and Devil May Cry.

Capcom has plans for more Devil May Cry.

"We want to reduce the time needed to develop major titles from the usual three-to-four years to only 2.5 years," Capcom chairman and CEO Kenzo Tsujimoto told investors. "Speeding up development will probably raise the cost. But creating quality content will be vital to Capcom's ability to survive by overcoming intense global competition."

In his own comments, Capcom president and COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto noted that Lost Planet 3 is on pace to hit the 2.5-year goal, while Resident Evil 6 is arriving some 3.5 years after its predecessor.

"For DMC Devil May Cry, development will require five years due to the time needed to select development companies because of our decision to switch to external development," Haruhiro Tsujimoto said. "But our goal is to reduce the cycle to 2.5 years for subsequent titles in this series."

2.5 years between games sounds pretty good, because it's similar to the rate that most PS2-era series would get sequels. This generation, a lot of series like Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo and Final Fantasy took years to release their first next-gen title, with the next one coming out near the end of the generation or even missing it altogether.

If a game is taking more than 3 years to develop, that's usually because of poor planning. However, I can't stand annual games, due to the minuscule improvements that they tend to bring. Resident Evil has been thoroughly milked over the past year, and I don't want to see that happening to other series as well.
