Hey, someone toss me a new album suggestion. I've been through this entire thread; but I literally have spotify on for 8hrs+ a day and that means I run through music insanely quick. Latest two items that really hit me just right The Lumineers - The Lumineers The Head and the Heard - The Head and the Heart (that said, I can really throw The Head and the Heart the same level of endorsement I'd toss to The Lumineers). edit: VVV Quick listen so far so good, will give an album a full run. Just discovered a group called The Drums through an errant song identification session. I was in the mall trying to Shazam (or the WP equivalent) a song I could barely hear. It was misidentified due to low volume, but The Drums came up instead and I totally dig 'em! They're on Spotify.

I just heard Dead Man's Bones They are Ryan Gosling's band and have a kids choir. I haven't been able to stop listening to them for the last few days. A few years ago I saw a band from Houston, The Wild Moccasins, mentioned in a thread here. I quickly picked up Microscopic Metronomes, their first release, and fell in love. Admittedly, I'm kind of new to the "indie" rock scene but I was really blown away because the music was just tight; the music was intricate and co-singers Cody and Zahria have really great vocals that play off each other. I followed them still and then got Skin Collision Past which was another great bit of material. Well, I finally got a chance to see them live on the last show of their recent tour in a small intimate venue and man they killed it. They had a really great stage presence and everything was just fun. Their songs had more of a "pop hook" feel but afterwards, I helped them with some heavier equipment and they are without a doubt some of the nicest people I've ever met. I mentioned how I was familiar with their work (they were playing alongside a local act that has a larger local following) and they were amazed that I came just to see them. I talked about the first record and how great it was and picked up some merchandise which Zahria happily signed for me then kind of gave me a nice hug. :3 I really like this band and I hope they get really big because they deserve it.

Maybe this was because of the place (our chairs were waaaaay too cozy, and the whole room was the exact opposite of the usual beer-in-a-plastic-glass venue), but it's true they were a bit static. I'm gonna see them again in two months, so i'll keep you posted then.

I just got back from seeing Anais Mitchell live and I think I love her even more than I did, which I didn't think was possible. All her songs have an incredibly powerful emotional current behind them and it's only amplified when she plays live, it was a really incredible atmosphere. Been listening to Unknown Mortal Orchestra's self-titled debut lately. They're sort of a garage/lo-fi psych rock-pop band with some really catchy tunes. Great summer driving music, too. I don't know, the lo-fi production (particularly the drums) kinda remind me of The Beta Band or Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, actually. Perhaps I need to reevaluate things with my life, but I don't really get a ton of melancholy, it mostly just seems like an insanely fun record too me. It's basically an entire record with nothing but the very best parts of songs (huge hooks, big guitar riffs, drums that make you want to play along on your steering wheel) with lots of lyrics about drinking and partying. There's a definite sense of nostalgia I guess, but it seems mostly like a "man that poo poo was awesome" sort. Or at least that's how I'm reading it anyway, because that poo poo is awesome. Anyway, I wasn't in love with Post-Nothing, but this one is by far my favorite record of the year so far. People should check it out. It's basically perfect for blasting loud while you drive with the windows down. e: basically it sounds exactly like an album titled "Celebration Rock" should sound. I'm 30 seconds in and it fits my criteria for good music: I can imagine them playing with The Hold Steady. I've heard that the whole album's like that. "A northern soul in southern lands Will always find his way to southern hands" - These lyrics are very meaningful to me. I enjoy this album. Anyone else listen to Wintersleep? Welcome to The Night Sky is a freaking great album in my opinion and I (finally) just got their 2010 album New Inheritors. Not bad but nowhere near as good as WttNS. The lead singers voice seems to have changed in the 3 years between albums which I'm not crazy about. Now I learn that there's another album that either just came out or is coming out later this year? Anyone listened to it yet if it's out? They're kinda Cabaret (I first saw them live supporting Amanda Palmer), folky, indie kind of sounds. I'm not overally sure how to describe them.

Not just you, there is a huge Twee and Indie Pop 'revival' going on there which along with the fact that some of the most influential modern Indie Pop artists originate there make it so that there is an extremely friendly environment there for new bands.
