Pretty much this. Also play on any difficulty above normal. It adds a whole new level of fun to the game when it turns on friendly fire. Now you can throw a zombie at a teammate then gun him down just so YOU can get the data first. Then again maybe I'm just an immature man child (but so were the three goons I played with)

Say, do you know how to do the walk?
The Coop is a blast and I wish it was longer. But the versus mode, which is what I think most people were excited over before release ended up sucking horribly. I mean, they nerfed induce infection? That was one of the things that didn't really need a nerf since if you have a competent team with a medic, it was harmless.

Super Soldier and Painkiller are the most overpowered skill in the game. Its pretty much those two classes duking it out using Juggernaut shotguns.

I saw a stream of SP ORC and both AI acted worse than the ones in L4D2. Both of them acted like wandering children, running to the other side regardless of health. It looked like hiding behind a wall would make the AI forget you existed and ignore you while you plug their heads.

Best thing about the retarded A.I is whenever there are tripmines on the walls, they ALWAYS walk into them.

Holy poo poo at the absurd Michael Bay wave of carsplosions and the resulting helicopter flight. If it's not scary, I hope the rest of the game is that nuts.

Agreed. If the game isn't going to be scary then it better be insane and explodey.

Neo Umbrella sounds like a 1980s Japanese anime villain group. Like Kenshiro will walk out of the demo and there's just a bunch of dudes with umbrella swords he has to fight.

Wait, am I seeing that trailer right? Leon is shooting at some sort of bomb (nuke?) with his pistols?

Could just be how it's cut, but I hope this is exactly how it plays out. And he manages to hit some non-vital area of the bomb that causes it to harmlessly drop out of the sky, of course.

Edit: But if you fail a QTE, you get a game over reel with Tokyo blowing up.

Looks like they're going full on CoD mode with this, guess that's not a bad thing, RE hasn't been a horror game since 4, at this point they're just embracing it entirely.

Still not gonna give Capcom a single cent but at least it looks solid.

So much for the Leon parts being tense and atmospheric and scary. The game is kind of fun to watch (the camera seems really strange though), the graphics are nice and the action set pieces look good, but I have no real desire to play those quicktime events.

The ultra ridiculous Neo-Umbrella trailer proves just how far divorced Capcom are from fan/professional criticism and feedback. (Well, I guess Dead Rising 2 proved that. They will never learn a lesson!)

Weird how headshots were avoided too.

I guess the only gameplay mechanic I hope they keep is 1. aim for specific weak point to stagger 2. run up and press prompt for massive damage

That's strangely my favourite part of the new RE games.

RE5 made that awesome with different prompts having different effects. If that is gone I'll be really sad. The RE:Revelations replacement sucked.

No it wasn't, Chuck is miles better than Frank. :colbert:

Plus OTR took a bunch of steps back, primarily in survivor A.I and their mechanics. It was perfect in DR2 then they hosed it all up.

That is what I mean. Instead of different combos and moves with different effects, everyone just gets a single charge attack.

Just wanted to point out that they likely demoed an action set piece because that's what's easiest to get audiences in 5 minutes at a big venue like E3. Resident Evil 4 had plenty of nuts QTE and action in between exploration and gothic horror.

Also, since it's in China the stage demo is probably from the climax scenario; I'm betting the USA Leon section is the more traditional horror one.

That Jake video confirms info about how the different characters work. For those who don't want to watch and spoiler any gameplay: you play through each character's story in its entirety and then can go on to other scenarios if you want, no Revelations-style switching every 20 minutes. I'm still calling that there'll be a Sonic Adventures style "real true scenario" that unlocks after you beat the others.

The game seems like it'll be really big, too. Already we seem to have various locales including

-Tall Oaks
-Tokyo (with multiple characters)
-Eastern Europe (with Jake)
-Eastern Europe, possibly before the main game (with Chris)

Now hopefully they'll have refined exploration. #5 felt a little too much like a corridor shooter, losing the previous focus on exploration. I mean, if Mass Effect 3 can get away with adding in a lot more RPG elements while maintaining the biggest focus on action and set pieces of the trilogy, surely they can put some of that in Leon or Jake's parts.

MALIGNANTLY USELESS
I'm cautiously optimistic regarding RE6, because if anything, the monster design is pretty solid (and disgusting) which is something I've greatly missed. I'm also not deterred by the co-op announcement at all, since I didn't even realize the potential for fun that RE5 had until I ran through it with my friend. Suddenly, after that, the whole idea made more sense.

Also, Mercenaries owns when you play it with friends. (Please let RE6 have Mercenaries, mother of god.)

RE6 looks so so far removed from the RE style that I am having trouble giving a gently caress about it or the series anymore. I'll still buy it because I am a consumer whore but there is a good chance it will become my last Resident Evil related purchase.

I could have sworn I read the game played out exactly like that. Chris, Leon, and Jake have their own storyline and everyone meets up for a big ol' clusterfuck final chapter.

While I like some of the things they're trying to do (like forcing you to use the roll instead of QTEs to dodge attacks), some of the new mechanics seem to hurt the formula more than anything. In RE4 and 5, melee moves rewarded you with i-frames and free damage for aiming well. In this game they don't give you i-frames and you can use them whenever you want. What's the point?

veni veni veni
Jun 5, 2005

I am actually ok with them adding new convenient control options like rolling but the controls looks so...loose I guess?

Also, it looks like it still uses QTE's.

Spermando
Jun 13, 2009
It uses QTEs when enemies grab you, but there doesn't seem to be any "press X to dodge" prompts. You have to read the enemies' animations and roll at the right time. Also, why the hell is the animation so much worse than RE4's?
