I know this is a random question but here goes: My girlfriend's father just passed away, and she received his stereo system and his record player. He had boxes upon boxes of old records on vinyl which will be awesome to explore. But now that I have a record player and a good system to hook it up to, I'd like to hear some metal on vinyl. Do any metal bands put their albums out on vinyl anymore? And if so, where can I find them at? Or is there a reliable site to get modern bands on vinyl? I know alot of the old stuff I know I can use EBAY for alot of older material but I hate using ebay for anything.

A lot of larger labels' webshops will have their bands albums (Century Media, Nuclear Blast, Season of Mist) as well as some shops that are as much distros as labels (PlasticHead) and some smaller labels often specialize somewhat in releasing or distributing records (Hells Headbangers, Nuclear War Now!), plus there are a few companies that purely deal with vinyl releases (Back On Black, MetalVinyl.es). Records are all over the place, most labels either handle their own vinyl releases or license them to a specialty label. Zodijackylite fucked around with this message at 06:53 on Jun 7, 2012 |

Well the guy who made that song is also responsible for some of the most iconic 80s hip hop songs (Beastie Boys, Run DMC, 99 Problems) and a ton of metal production (uh Slayer, Danzig). And the song is probably like 8 years old now, so its not really nowadays. Live Undead and Haunting the Chapel are my favorites. Not really into Reign in Blood and everything after. Except for the hardcore album, that one rules.

I'm guessing this is responding to me...Most touring stuff plays at Reggies Rock club, Bottom Lounge, or nowadays Mojoes(but gently caress that place). Some local stuff gets thrown in random places like The Fallout(which is like...a bomb shelter looking thing inside, its awesome). A guy who promotes a lot of local shows throughs little day fests there once in a while like Klash of the Thrash, or Thrashgiving(complete with turkey dinner). Other then that, lots of bar venues like the Empty Bottle, Ye Old Towne Inn, beat kitchen...occasionally The Exit has a show upstairs...Honestly the only way I can keep track of this poo poo is by having lots of friends that send me invites for every show that gets thrown. Starting June 20th theres a show nearly every day...(June 21st Carnal Decay, 22nd Hell Awaits, 23rd They Die Screaming, 26th Death, 27th Landmine Marathon.) EDIT: As for slightly bigger Chicago bands, outside Nachtmystium(I think whats his name moved to California though) and Bongripper theres Cianide, Macabre, Cardiac Arrest, Morgue Supplier, Diamond Plate, Indian, Bible of the Devil, Drug Honkey, Reign Inferno, Bones(Ex-Usurper members), Kommandant, The Atlas Moth, off the top of my head. There are countless random local bands though, especially thrash, too much goddamn thrash.. EDIT: VVV loving Mojoes Wyzt fucked around with this message at 04:22 on Jun 8, 2012 |

Sometimes intros are good. Baroness' Blue Record has an intro and an outro that are pretty drat good. Bullhead's Psalm, and it segways really well into the second track, The Sweetest Curse. Baroness is for the stoner/doom thread I guess, but not all 'intro' songs are bad; just most of them.

The intro for Nachtmystium's Assassins is absolutely sick, especially live. Sanford Parker destroyed a lot of my hearing that night with his moog synths.

I've been listening to ICS Vortex's album Storm Seeker a lot lately and I want to tell you about it. ICS Vortex is the guy who did the clean singing parts for Dimmu's Progencies of the Great Apocalypse https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joEAb_y7ZYA Borknagar's Collosus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuQxHAYpu4Q And all things Arcturus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ubryx5b5awo His album Storm Seeker is great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-AKursvupQ That's it. I'm not a review writer or anything. I'm just enjoying the hell out of this record. edit: and since we're on the topic of intro/outro's, there is no intro to the album but there is an outro track which is moog.

His vocals were one of my favorite parts of Arcturus and Dimmu Borgir. I'm also glad to see another Leprous fan, Bilateral was easily my favorite album of 2011, I made one of my few metal thread posts last year ranting and raving about how good they are. Forced Entry is such a great song, its hard to believe its 10 minutes long! Since you said you are looking for music similar to them, I would highly, highly recommend the self-titled Suspyre album which was just released a few months ago. It's by far my favorite album this year so far. Extremely well polished and produced, lots of proggy / jazz/ fusion elements like Leprous, and the lead singer is fantastic. I don't think there is a single bad track on this, although my favorites are Still Bending the Violet, The Fire Dancer, The Cycle, and The Man Made of Stone. Unfortunately they don't have any full length songs from the new album on youtube to preview, but they do have this 2 minute clip of snippets up that I think gives a decent idea of what to expect https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EB4AToJYOdA sativa dreams fucked around with this message at 02:17 on Jun 11, 2012 |
