I got InFamous free from PSN after the Sony hacking debacle, played it for quite some time but never really got into it. Then I ran into a particularly annoying escort mission that I couldn't be arsed to finish and uninstalled it. Was hoping InFamous 2 would improve upon it but it feels like the exact same game. I never liked the parkour system and the powers were largely just regular shooter mechanics in disguise. The morality system was silly and the story didn't grip me at all. Can't complain otherwise since they were both free, but yeah, not my kind of games.

Outland on the other hand is a lot of fun, and really the only PS+ freebie game that I would've paid money for. Beautiful visuals, great design, sharp controls and a really nice old-timey platformer feel. I need to check out the co-op.

On the moon... they don't make Neo Kobe Pizza.

So I started up inFamous 2 (after the near 2 and a half hour long install jesus loving christ) and I'm enjoying myself so far but I just have to ask: what the gently caress did they do to Cole's voice? I recall that he had this deeper, raspier voice in the first game but he sounds a lot different from how I remember, and it's kind of jarring.

Also I read online that having inFamous 1 trophies affects this game. Well I have Platinum in that, what am I gonna get out of this and when? I vaguely recall hearing about Power Cores and the like. I just finished what I assume to be the tutorial (saved Wolfe) and I'm curious as to whether it's something that is automatically applied or like a "Hey congrats on being awesome here's a bonus" text box will pop up and cash out goodies.

edit: Just took a look at the map and saw "Blast Shard". Are Blast Shards actually pointed out to you in this game?! Because after inFamous 1's "hey, mash that search button idiot" affair I'd be glad to hear it.

Yes, there is a blast shard radar in inFamous 2. You press R3 and it shows all shards in the area around you and the map also shows the direction of the closest one.

The extras you get for having saves of the first game are bonus experience and extra cores depending on how many shards you got in 1. The only other bonus things are an audio log and a minute long side mission that are different depending on what alignment you finished the last game with.

They changed voice actors because the original wasn't willing to do the motion capture.

You should have had a prompt when you started up about the Infamous 1 import. If it didn't work you're not missing anything though.

Shards are a bit easier to find, plus late in the game you get an upgrade to your pulse that points you to the nearest shard even if it's out of pulse range.

Yeah, this is what I ended up doing - just very tedious. I think it took me about 25-30 zone changes from where you fight The Fear to get mine.

I also messed up sticking up The End. It's been so long since I played, I thought 3 times meant you had to surprise him 3 times, not shake him down. D'oh. That just led to having to replay that point.

http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/724828/oddworld-abes-odyssee-set-for-a-fresh-hd-remake/

quote:

Oddworld: Abe's Odyssee Set For A Fresh HD Remake

Just Add Water's Oddworld plans have expanded to include what CEO Stewart Gilray calls a "from-the-ground-up remake" for the series' first game, Oddworld: Abe's Odysee, VG247 reports. We first heard that the developer was working with series creator Lorne Lanning on multiple Oddworld projects spanning multiple platforms in July 2010, a collaboration that has already resulted in a PS3 version of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath and a PC release of the full Oddworld collection.
We already knew that a remastered version of the first game would be followed at some point by a proper new entry in the series, but Gilray's comments paint a fresh picture of the remake's scope. “We are re-making Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, however we didn’t want the impression to be that we were just doing a port of the PSone title with higher res art,” he said. “We are starting from scratch on this one, using the original as the blueprint for the game. So technically it’s not a new game, but a from-the-ground-up remake.”

Gilray's statements came after a posting on the Oddworld Inhabitants Facebook page offered an update on the project's status. "OK, so here’s the skinny on Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee We decided to reboot it, not just an HD update to the original PSone title, this is a new game," the update reads. "It will be getting it’s first public showing later this year, with a release date of next summer (2013)."
You can also head over to the Facebook page to check out a new crop of photos from E3 2012 covering some of the other Oddworld development work that is currently underway. The updated gallery offers new looks at the Vita versions of Stranger's Wrath and Munch's Odysee as well as Munch HD on PlayStation 3.

I wasn't expecting a "from the ground up" remake, but more of an :effort: port with higher-rez visuals. This is fantastic news.

I just beat Infamous 2 last night (bought it recently, finally got a chance to finish it), and I really enjoyed it. For the record, I played Good, and when you get to the end choice it you can either "Fulfill your destiny" or something like "Go against what you've learned" or something of the sort. I imagine when you play evil the choice descriptions are different.

Also, currently playing through again on Evil, and good lord I already feel like a giant rear end in a top hat. Zeke is trying to justify the bad things I do, Kuo is chewing me out, random civilians are running away :(. I think I should've played Evil first, then I wouldn't feel like I'm betraying all my allies.

Just fyi to clear up an earlier post I had. The "gently caress around" aspect actually is very similar to Mercenaries when you would capture one of the lieutenants. The trade off is just instead of the ability to blow up any building you have the grapple bungie.

Well I think the "studio" eventually became just a studio in name while the core people had other jobs, and now they're ramping up again after doing an update/port of Stranger's Wrath and the like. A remake where they just need to hire some new coders and artists and work with a game that's set design-wise already seems like a nice test run to get some investor money.

Just Cause 2 is so much fun, thanks to whoever suggested playing it on casual. I had started it on normal and wasn't feeling it after the first couple missions, so I restarted and I've been hooked ever since. The parachute slingshot is fantastic and bouncing from vehicle to vehicle is lots of fun. I wish there was a radio, I like the news broadcasts but some music would make everything better. Sideway: New York is not a good game as well.

Controls are bad. Sometimes when I do a divebomb attack, the character will end up stuck crouching on the floor even though I didn't hold down. Sometimes when I jump, I automatically do the floating move to the sides, messing up some platforming. There are warp spots near the end, but the control of those are almost out of control and sometimes I end up in a boundary that outside the playing area and I die after warping out of them.

Music is annoying as well. There are around 5 tracks looped and the only good one is the one without lyrics. The others are about fighting the power or corruption or other bullshit like that.

The last boss is an obstacle course followed by some small flying guy that has to be stomped on multiple times. Big whoop.

As a consolation, it did give a gold trophy just for beating it. Most PSN games that I've played just give a bronze or silver for beating them.

I'm struggling through Hard Corps: Uprising as well. I want to like this game because I liked most of the Contra games out there, but this one is hard in a cheap way. When a game surprises you at the end of the level after 2 boss battles by having you jump on a small helicopter in midair and making you lose a continue and replay the 2 bosses again if you miss the jump, it's a bit of a drag. The second stage with poison plants and snipers is also a bit frustrating.

I actually liked that they did that since it keeps you on your toes and with enough practice you can pretty much deflect and dodge everything they throw at you. I played the ever loving poo poo out of it when it came out and I strongly suggest playing in Rising mode until you're familiar with the stages to tackle arcade mode. The voices are pretty garbage and annoying except for the final boss so it's best to turn them off.

Is there a specific trick to shaking down The End? The past two times I've played through, I consistently sneak up on him and hold him up. I go to shoot a limb to scare him like I do with other soldiers, but then he eventually just sends a flash bomb and I don't get anything from him. That's the whole idea, in real life too, when you're powerful its easier to use your powers for evil than good. If that wasn't the case then we'd have no need for societal systems to limit the power of powerful people, like representative government and stuff.
