Which episode was it where Inoko MAX gets a text message from his mother?

I think my best recommendation would be the episode that summarizes the Lemmings 24 hour challenge. It's got a bit of everything that makes the show so great: staff assists, elaborate props, live audience interaction, Abe cooking, sleep deprivation, and a down to the wire ending.

My personal favorites: Legend of the Mystical Ninja: Maybe it's because I played the paint off this game growing up, but it's got a lot going for it. A fairly well-known title in the west, Lecher-Arino (during the striptease scene), psycho Gambler-Arino (DAI DAI DAI DAI DAI), great interaction with Inoko MAX, puzzlement as he figures out what he's supposed to do with the plates... great episode overall. Tokimeki Memorial: One of the great "The Staff Screws With Arino" episodes. His comedic background comes out in full force. Another game which most folks have heard of, but few have probably taken the time to play, thus letting curiosity fuel the enjoyment. "I'd have to say... MY WIFE!" Densha de Go!: It's not just a man, at a desk, playing a video game. Sometimes he plays dress-up. And sometimes the staff decides they want to challenge him, with the stakes being... dinner. Umihara Kawase: Not only is it the introduction to the Inoko MAX saga, but it's an interesting, unique game that folks in the west have probably never heard of. The pictures contributed by the game's artist are also a cool indication of the traction the show started to get in the industry. Bonk's Adventure: Not only is it a great game and a great challenge (even dealing with that... erm... setback), but the recap of the Ki challenge shows the lengths to which these people will go for the sake of old video games. Also, CARTOON MEAT. "Do you think they had cheese in this era?"

My two personal favorites, mostly thanks to certain scenes are: Ultra Seven: The ending is just such crystallized Arino: "Eh? "...NO WAY!!" Legacy of the Wizard: "I made it."

S.O.S. remains one of my favorite episodes, in that it's about discovering a new, strange game along with Arino messing around and being funny. I think the best part is that the game seems to have an awesome premise at first, but then it's slowly revealed that it's a gamer's nightmare: a multi-character escort mission with crappy controls and physics, not to mention dodgy AI, under a time limit and partially underwater. I tried it with some folks recently and it seemed to be a hit. We watched Actraiser afterwards, but someone fell asleep during it and it seemed to get less interest.

All the above, also Sonic The Hedgehog Because Nakayama. Also Bomberman. Goddess Desu, and the end where Arino and several assistants all play against each other is great.

While I recognize it's currently in Discotek-publishing land and unavailable through legal means, I had a question about Ninja Gaiden (the first one)... ... how long did it take Arino to finish? Curious as to the number of hours. It's for a piece I'm working on. Hopefully a helpful soul who might have a legacy copy of the video could look it up.

Just a couple of relevant news links. Kotaku: Game Center CX is Coming to DVD Kotaku Japan: Game Center CX in USA DVD. The last paragraph explains where the "extremely American taste" cover art came from. vvv That one was posted back in February. But I'm confused by its length and the bracket at the end. The way they worded it almost makes it sound like they're the ones releasing it, too, not Discotek. Maybe they'll post a proper article when the DVD comes out? I also wonder if Kotaku USA will post an article about the GCCX in USA DVD, since the show made the trip to see who's been watching on the website. zari-gani fucked around with this message at 06:59 on Jun 14, 2012 |

I thought the actual article was hiding behind noscript, but then I temp allowed all the gawker domain and still nothing..... Then opened it in chrome and the same thing. This isn't an article, it's a heading. A sentence. Ugh, Gawker, if they moved their entire publishing platform to twitter nothing of value would be lost.

Mister Chief posted:I know that Rainbow Islands is in the pipeline. I don't see how it's even possible to beat that game with the best ending. One, you're lucky to make it to the end of a level. Two, the secret boss is a bitch and a half because it's a space shoot-'em-up boss with space shoot-'em-up movement range and action AI, but you're futzing around in the Rainbow Islands platformer engine. Finally, it is in fact entirely random that you'll even GET the R-A-I-N-B-O-W diamonds in the first place. I wouldn't have made it without savestates, and I always had to keep one on hand from the beginning of the world. I mean, Adventure Island is some poo poo, but at least that's totally dependent on twitch. That? You can't fix that.

Ninja Gaiden 2, Shiren, and Mighty Bomb Jack Live hadn't been added yet.

I always theorized that since text in kanji is so visually busy and information-dense to start with it kind of carries over into how webpages are structured.

It's been a little while so I thought I'd fill people in on what's coming up. Three episodes you're already aware of from what's been posted in the thread. Another episode in the translation process is a long awaited one that's one of the show's best (and one of my favorite old games, too). We've got something kind of funky coming that I'm sure none of you could predict (it's a first in a lot of different ways). And beyond that is something that even I don't have the details on so I don't even want to hint at it. There's a deluge building right now. Get to higher ground.
