I was loving the bass work on this and then the vocals happened and I couldn't help laughing. The guitar parts are a little thin to carry an instrumental, but it's pretty interesting. They do good with breakdowns and mood though, I'll give them that. It's odd that they've been active for a decade and still sound like they're finding their footing. They're like a free-jazz Jawbox only less heavy with a :tinfoil: singer.

Not bad, though not really my thing.

However, "blackened rock" nowadays immediately reminds me of Djerv. This is good, because Djerv is some great stuff. Kinda like, metalized 90's alternative rock with some black metal overtones. Or something, I'm not very good with describing poo poo like this. Have some links:

Does anyone have any suggestions for an album similar to Agalloch's White EP? The acoustic stuff is great, I don't really need it to be even remotely related to metal. I've also listened to Ulver's Kveldssanger which is really close to what I'm looking for, but the vocal delivery on that particular album is just not for me.

A bit of this album kinda reminds me of Ghoul's hosed-up take on psychobilly surf rock, and that's only a good thing. The record is hit or miss for sure, but it's a drat good debut.

No news except that JG apparently made the album preview video private. I guess you could extrapolate he's either DEFINITELY scrapping it all, or he's of the impression more people will want an eventual album they can't hear anymore

Just a heads up, its sung by Arjen himself (The Hippie in Into The Electric Castle and the song The Truth is Here in 01011001) Fits well in my opinion, though I like his other stuff more.

It's also got narration parts, though luckily they arent too long and don't have their own tracks. They are also voiced by Rutger Hauer

An album I've been listening to a lot lately has been the Premonition album by Firewind. I believe when I first heard anything from this album it was the song Head up High, and I could have sworn that it was Dio for a moment, but to my entertainment Apollo Papathanasio is just a drat good vocalist.

Regardless, the album takes in a lot of very interesting songs, a few different feels to them, and they happen to have one of the best guitarists in my opinion in a long time, Gus G (Oh you know, he's only played for Ozzy Ozbourne, Mystic Prophecy, Dream Evil, Nightrage, Kamelot, Archenemy...) Take a listen if you haven't heard of Firewind already, they are from Greece (And might be the only people in Greece who are employed?). It also includes a cover of the song Maniac originally by Michael Sembello

Most of their other stuff is pretty good, but it has a wide variety of feel from album to album due to the change in vocals and other members. Gus G is a constant.

Premonition Album:

Head up High - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDO_IaixvKU

1 - Into the Fire
2 - Head up High
3 - Mercenary Man
4 - Angels Forgive Me
5 - Remembered
6 - My Loneliness
7 - Circle of Life
8 - Silence Code
9 - Maniac
10 - Life Foreclosed
