So I was perusing http://stonerobixxx.blogspot.com/ recently and ran across Snail. I can't get enough of this song: Snail - Mental Models: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6QVDOR4XWI The really heavy sound with the laid back clean vocals turns out really nice. Almost like if Kurt Cobain had a doom band and didn't scream as much. I Also ran across Viaje A 800 a Mexican stoner/pysch band. It's refreshing to hear a different take on the genre with mostly Spanish vocals and some definite flair in the music. Viaje A 800 - Oculi Omnium In Te Sperant Domine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlxmreI6vN0 Viaje a 800 - Ni Perdon Ni Olvido : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXqHAGLgxAE&feature=related Thanks for the Elder reccomendations. I really like the Dead Roots Stirring album. Until last night I was up in the air about it being too noodely. That album has a lot of really interesting parts and still flows well. I really like the new Ahab. If I hadn't known it was them I'm not sure that I would have been able to guess that it was them, if that makes sense. Some people have mentioned that the guitars could be louder but I don't have a problem with the mix. Everything sounds pretty good to me. It's a solid album and I hope they keep them coming. I dig the harmonizing vocals on 'Antarctica The Polymorphess' which seems like some new territory for them.

The guitar solo towards the end is straight out of Muse's song Fury and vocals aside, it sounds like you could find this on Origin of Symmetry. Agreed, plus maybe with some newish Thrice. Hopping in on the new Om being great. I usually try to only listen to a record once a day but broke and listened to it three times yesterday.

I'm trying to get caught up with the sludge scene. Neurosis seems like a good place to start. Anybody got album suggestions? I know they were hardcore/punk first I'm kinda thinking of skipping that part for now. Souls At Zero maybe?

Given to the Rising, A Sun That Never Sets, and The Eye of Every Storm are my absolute favorite Neurosis albums. Souls at Zero is the first one where they shed the hardcore image, it's a solid record for sure, but I just enjoy the more "spiritual" albums they released later on.

From what I'm reading the general consensus seems to be that TSIB is their magnum opus. I also read that they got the guy who did Altered States to do visuals for their live shows. That has to be one of the most psychedelic experiences of all time.

I've never been able to get into Neurosis. I feel like I'm doing something wrong. I've gone through several albums but nothing calls me back. I may try again. I think I'm just not into Scott Kelly's vocals. And while I'm on the topic of not getting it. Baroness: I don't get them either but I do think I actually like the new stuff much better than their Red/Blue stuff which is weird because I can usually get into weird time signatures and awkward riffs. The most honest way I can summarize why I don't like Red/Blue Albums is that they just play the guitars too much, too much changing, too much 16th beat picking of a note when a single sounding of the note would do etc. UFOTacoMan fucked around with this message at 21:44 on Jun 29, 2012 |

Metanaut posted:"Review" copies are out, huh? I don't think this song is an indication of what the album is going to be like. Pigtown Blues was recently released on a 7", and I am guessing that it won't make the next album. They have been playing some new tracks live, and they are heavy and rockin'. I don't have mine either (I ordered right at the beginning of May.) I emailed them to ask and they said that as of June 26 they had just started processing orders placed at the beginning of May and that it "may take a little longer" to receive. They also updated their Facebook page saying they expect all orders to *hopefully* go out by mid July. Nothing has ever taken longer to ship. Either they are significantly smaller than I thought or they are just the slowest at processing orders of any company I have dealt with recently. The second it comes I will forget all my frustrations though. Asnorban fucked around with this message at 14:45 on Jul 2, 2012 |

I don't know if these guys belong here or have been talked about before, but Hog from Durham, NC is a band I have been very big on lately. They're Psychedelic/Doom and they haven't been around very long, but their first EP was produced by Philip Cope. I've seen them twice now, they only get better, their new album is supposedly dropping this year (I talked to some of the dudes and the bassist just has to track his vocals, as of 3 weeks ago). Their new material is really something to behold. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfQh0heSb64 (probably their doomiest) http://www.myspace.com/hoggnogg http://www.reverbnation.com/hoggnogg VVVV OH ho ho!
