Hey goons, hoping to get some good recommendations on downloadable Hard Electro sets (preferrably 60+ minutes long) to listen to while at the gym.

Some of my old standbys have been Dirtyloud and Darth & Vader, but I'm really looking to expand my collection. Any suggestions?

I'm well versed in all things musical. My compositional process takes quite a bit of time though yes, first I write all of my pieces on staff paper, carefully layering out each note and percussion hit, then I must write the vocal arrangements and condense my vast array of intellectual foresight into simple lyrics anyone could understand, once this is done the recording process begins, I begin by recording the drum tracks, with my Akai-MPC3000, slowly but surely making sure every hit is precise, then I begin to think of other instruments and effects to take on to the piece, usually taking weeks in it's own, then I'll begin to record the vocal arrangement, but with a delicate voice like mine I must be careful and do many takes. I do not simply play on a computer."

Speaking of EDM crybabies and drama, have any of you seen this relatively new EDMsnob blog that recently popped up? He/she has had a couple of interesting things to say, and I'm pretty sure this is where the leak of a lot of big name people's riders came from.

It's at EDMsnob.com. I don't think I've really been listening to this type of music long enough to really form opinions on it, and I'm pretty sure the way I got started on listening to this music would make this guy/girl cringe.

"Please, Dave Grohl, remix my music. Make it less repetitive. Only you can help me escape my four-on-the-floor prison. I hate dance music!" :qq:

It's interesting how deadmau5's criticism of live electronic musicians boils down to "if their button pressing is simpler than mine, they suck". I'm pretty sure if your audience can't see or understand what you're doing, it doesn't really matter how many buttons you're pressing. Well, I guess there is the advantage of being able to improvise, but I don't think that separates deadmau5 from the DJs and Skrillexes he shuns quite as much as he thinks it does.

I like London Elektricity's old (ca 2005) approach to live electronic music. They made use of modern music technology, but in a "visual" way, as they call it. Their performance controllers, instead of a box of buttons, were a keyboard and a set of drum trigger pads. The pads triggered percussive and "orchestral stab"-style samples (it's mainstream drum'n'bass, so there's a lot of them), and the keys each triggered one segment of a loop, so they could play them back in order or out of order. They also had a drummer, bassist, singer, etc. That's just one band's setup, but what it shows us is that, with MIDI, you can do poo poo like that, so why jam on a box of knobs and sliders when you can be running around hitting things with a drum stick to make your bleeps and bloops? Unfortunately I haven't heard of any similar live acts since, but maybe someone else has.

I got the Novation Launchpad when it came out because I saw the promo video and thought "wow, that guy's making live drum'n'bass by pressing buttons really fast and they light up and it looks so cool!" but now I think, if I ever manage to do some gigs, the Launchpad will take a much more utilitarian, background role, while I wail on something that looks like a Rock Band drumset or a keytar or something (hey, it's hard to make this kind of music look sexy. we don't all have mouse costumes). And no way am I doing it alone. I showed the Launchpad video to my friends and they had no idea what was going on, but the music sounded nice. I think that sums up the current state of live EDM PAs.

Madeon released a Mini-mix that was featured on Annie Mac's Radio. It has a lot of samples from his original mixes/remixes as well as a ton of new samples. He admitted on twitter that he did not have as much time as he wanted to polish it but I think it is still a great mix to listen to. In particular, I really like his tempo transitions. I saw Madeon a few months ago, March or so. It was a good show, but his transitioning leaves something to be desired. It was really spotty at times. If you like Madeon's productions and his remixes, it might be worth the $30 to see him. I paid $25 and didn't feel ripped off, but sometimes his transitioning was incredibly jarring.
