And in terms of folk/folk punk, id recommend Defiance Ohio: Folk Punk with great lyrical content Jeffery Lewis: From calm soothing folk to harsh punky songs The Roadside Graves: Kinda darker toned folk, not really sure what to say Andrew Jackson Jihad: Great folk punk, from a loud guy whos not at all afraid to speak his mind Frank Turner: Folky music that i found really identifiable

I didn't see them in this thread, but Stephie Coplan and the Pedestrians opened for WFNX's final big concert, the Seaport Six, on Thursday. They got their start locally (Boston area) and probably put on one of the best opening acts I've seen in a while. I'm confused as to why Grimes is starting 10 minutes after Godspeed though, I thought the headliner was always the lone band playing, but I guess Grimes will be off on the small stage while Godspeed plays on the main one.

I'm seeing Blind Pilot and Laura Gibson on Saturday and am super stoked! Anybody seen Beach House live? I've got tickets for when they come to Tulsa in a few weeks and just want to know what to expect since their music is pretty relaxed. Also forgot to mention it when it happened, and I'm not even sure if they belong in this thread, but I saw St. Vincent in May and she/they put on an awesome show (okay this was already said so just go back a few pages and read that instead). Annie Clark and, for whatever reason, Carrie Brownstein, ate at the restaurant we were at and I was kinda drunk so I managed to snag a pic with them, which was cool. The delights of indie are pretty new to me, but so far I am in to: The National The Antlers Bon Iver Arcade Fire Lost in the Trees Laura Marling and then more "classic" stuff like The Pixies and The Smiths. Artists in bold are my current favourites, I can't get enough of The National at the moment. I mined last.fm's related artists, but recommendations from actual people are generally more useful. Looking for any recommendations similar to this stuff, or anything "folk indie" or "indie folk" which isn't loving Mumford and Sons. For anyone who likes The National, you really, really need to listen to Tindersticks, particulary their first 3 albums. Stuart's voice is more honeyed than Matt's, but they both go down really well. For Wolf Parade, listen to Apologies to the Queen Mary, then listen to Shut Up I Am Dreaming by Sunset Rubdown, which is one of Spencer's other bands.

Iron & Wine all sounds the same. You can start with any album. There are technically two albums by Local Natives: Gorilla Manor and Orion Way, though the latter was released while they were still called Cavil At Rest. If you can track down Orion Way you should listen to it, but Gorilla Manor is better.
