I don't think Hospitality has been mentioned. They're kind of poppy but very musical and self possessed. I don't know if that makes sense, I'm not great at describing. They have a new self-titled album out.

I might have mentioned them earlier in this thread but they deserve any mention they get. Their album is probably my favorite of the year so far. I really fell in love with the band after hearing it.

Recently I've been addicted to Wolf Parade

And would like some more stuff in that vein, I also like Deer Hunter.

And in terms of folk/folk punk, id recommend
Defiance Ohio: Folk Punk with great lyrical content
Jeffery Lewis: From calm soothing folk to harsh punky songs
The Roadside Graves: Kinda darker toned folk, not really sure what to say
Andrew Jackson Jihad: Great folk punk, from a loud guy whos not at all afraid to speak his mind
Frank Turner: Folky music that i found really identifiable

Check out both the lead singers' other bands. Spencer Krug's is Sunset Rubdown, start with either "Shut Up I Am Dreaming" or "Random Spirit Lover." Their third album, "Dragonslayer," isn't as good as the first two. Krug also just released an album as Moonface, but it's a pretty big departure from the Wolf Parade/Sunset Rubdown sound. Dan Boeckner's is Handsome Furs, check out their amazingly excellent (and criminally underappreciated) "Sound Kapital." (Face Control is also a good album, and their first, "Plague Park," isn't bad).

You should also try Tapes n Tapes (who are better than their reviews), Phoenix, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!, Modest Mouse (but I assume you have if you're listening to Wolf Parade), Arcade Fire, The New Pornographers, The Radio Department, Spoon, and Waters (if you're into folk you might like this, it's the classic-rocky new band from the lead singer of Port O'Brien) just to grab a few off my iPod.

What attitude problem?
Pitchfork's Saturday line-up is pretty kickin.

quote:

Saturday
Grimes 8:40 (A)
Godspeed You! Black Emperor 8:30 (B)
Danny Brown 7:40 (A)
Hot Chip 7:25 (C)
Chromatics 6:45 (A)
Sleigh Bells 6:15 (B)
Schoolboy Q 5:45 (A)
Wild Flag 5:15 (C)
Nicolas Jaar 4:45 (A)
Flying Lotus 4:15 (B)
Youth Lagoon 3:45 (A)
Cults 3:20 (C)
Liturgy 2:50 (A)
Atlas Sound 2:30 (B)
Lotus Plaza 1:55 (A)
Cloud Nothings 1:45 (C)
The Psychic Paramount 1:00 (B)
The Atlas Moth 1:00 (A)

Definitely want to see all of Cloud Nothings, Flying Lotus, and Godspeed. In the between, I'm thinking scout out Atlas Sound, Liturgy, Cults, Youth Lagoon, Sleigh Bells, and Hot Chip. Sucks that Grimes is opposite Godspeed, but that's not too bad. Anyone I'm really missing out on? I fully expect to catch bits and pieces of some people, but that's cool too.

So Best Coast's new album came out today. I was a pretty big fan of the first, but I'm not sure how I feel about the new one. I really like the lo-fi sound and it's really pushed away from that. It's more...surf pop than surf rock I guess. Only halfway through the album though.

An Horse rules. I first met Kate and Damon after they opened for Manchester Orchestra in Cleveland in 2011. I've been obsessed with them since I first heard "Camp Out" In 2009. I've kept in contact with them since, and attended two more of their Ohio shows, one in Toledo, another in Akron. I'm currently helping Kate locate and buy her first classic car. They really are the nicest people.

I really wanted to go to this, Saturday is the only day at Pitchfork I was interested in, but I'm busy that day. I'm confused as to why Grimes is starting 10 minutes after Godspeed though, I thought the headliner was always the lone band playing, but I guess Grimes will be off on the small stage while Godspeed plays on the main one.

Atlas Sound was one of the better concerts I've seen but that was in a tiny theater at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and I have no idea if his show will translate to a festival. Nicolas Jaar has an interesting ambient/techno sound but if it's just him sitting at a PC pushing buttons I could see it being really dull. Danny Brown is kind of insane so I think he will be worth it if you like hip hop.

What is the Godspeed live show like? I can't really get into their albums and I think Grimes is going to be a lot more fun than listening to 1.5 Godspeed songs.

I'm seeing Blind Pilot and Laura Gibson on Saturday and am super stoked!

Blind Pilot's been writing for their new album but I'm hoping they'll play this song at the show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxH5dAfgBFA

Laura Gibson is fantastic too. She's a singer/songwriter that makes songs with this strangely nostalgic (like a 1950's chick flick), hazy dream feel to them https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VbaJ9efgkw

I think someone mentioned these guys earlier, but Delta Spirit is loving AMAZING. I've been listening to them non-stop for the past 2 weeks. This one's my fav https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flvCacqMOp8

The delights of indie are pretty new to me, but so far I am in to:
The National
The Antlers
Bon Iver
Arcade Fire
Lost in the Trees
Laura Marling

and then more "classic" stuff like The Pixies and The Smiths. Artists in bold are my current favourites, I can't get enough of The National at the moment. I mined last.fm's related artists, but recommendations from actual people are generally more useful. Looking for any recommendations similar to this stuff, or anything "folk indie" or "indie folk" which isn't loving Mumford and Sons.

Thanks :)

(Before someone recommends them I am indeed aware of Neutral Milk Hotel, just haven't listened yet)

e: I don't know how I managed to forget this but I absolutely adore The Mountain Goats All Eternals Deck was one of my favourite albums of 2011.

Iron & Wine all sounds the same. You can start with any album.

There are technically two albums by Local Natives: Gorilla Manor and Orion Way, though the latter was released while they were still called Cavil At Rest. If you can track down Orion Way you should listen to it, but Gorilla Manor is better.
