Empire would have had variety if they hadn't fecking rushed the thing. The DLC units look pretty boss compared to the :geno: looking line and elite line.

The Ottomans looked the best of course. Playing with them is always a challenge.

I hope this doesn't happen with Rome too much. I try my hardest not to buy DLC unless it's proper expansion stuff. Shogun 2 wasn't that bad beyond the clan and blood packs but a setting like what Rome is going to have is just ripe for a million different unit DLCs.

What's wrong with an Egyptian faction? Wasn't Cleopatra married to a Roman or am I just bad at history?

Around this period of history Egypt was thoroughly Greek-ifed from the conquest of Alexander. In the first Rome game, however, Egypt was portrayed as like, ancient "build the pyramids and make mummies" Egypt which was hundreds of years anachronistic to the game.

Rumors floating that Egypt will be that way again in Rome 2.

Nope.

But it doesn't take much effort to add flavor while staying true to history. CA just doesn't give a poo poo and rather blow their budget and retarded soft-porn promos.

Speaking of bonkers I hope they bring back all the crazy/bloodthirsty pre-battle speeches

Honestly as long as the game is mod friendly enough that dudes can come in and change poo poo, they're welcome, in my opinion, to add whatever weird units they want.

I mean there is gonna be a realism mod out the first week regardless.

It'll make sense, eventually.
Short version is, at that point it really was a Greek kingdom that just so happened to be Egypt and the oldschool-Egypt from Total War games is like putting napoleonic army in an WWII game.

Might aswell make Iberian Neanderthals and Parthian Achaemenid Persians too!

It makes zero sense. Screeching Germans ,bone breaking Thracians and matriarchal Scythians are good because CA used myths and fears to make these factions fearsome and more interesting, making the Macedonic Ptolemaic Empire the pride of Ramses is just stupid. And it's been said a million times and i'll say it again, the Ptolemy Empire was the most rich state in terms of unit variety that a game like this can wish for. Macedonian nobility, Galatian mercenaries, Nubian Ethiopian and Jewish soldiers and a base of Egyptians REALLY pissed off against the ruling class. Egypt tends to be overpowered in pre gunpowder games because the area is simply too rich. Turn it into a high rebelious faction were riches can be obtained but there's almost zero loyalty so you're force to use those riches to hire foreign forces or super bribes.

Well, either that or mummified soldiers.

One thing that annoyies me in Shogun 2 is their ones are so bland and there is only three of them.

They should have hired a range of Japanese VA's or Japanese speakers instead of the young guy and old guy.

Hell, Napoleon and Empires ones would have been hilariously good as well considering the eccentrics and tyrants leading the armies in that era.

There are people that like the original Rome with all of the unique civilizations and then there are people who want historical accuracy in a video game. One of the these groups removed flaming pigs, war-dogs, and chariots from the game and added fifty different variations of spearmen.

People keep saying this but i doubt many of them played EB or RS. Not only were they not boring but they actually made the factions varied.

The reason why the Greeks, Seleucids, Pontus and Macedonians were identical was because of CA, the same why all the "barbarians" were identical. In EB every single faction was different, none of this spearman bullshit people keep talking about.

Only the spergiest of spergiest will whine about dogs or pigs. None here are talking about that. Silly is good, historically accurancy is not mandatory. But at least make a game where units are based on the time, not 1000 years before the timeframe.

I don't really like Shogun's setting and unit selection but it plays much better than Medieval 2 with its horrible AI

hemale in pain

Medieval 2 with Stainless Steel is very playable if you can get over how clunky it is. Saying that it's only real advantage over Shogun is units and map size and everything else is worse. It also still comes with the Pope which somehow manages to be a crappier gameplay mechanic than realm divide, I just love getting complained at constantly for playing the drat game.

I've been playing FoTS for the past few days, and I can't figure out why I am so freaking terrible at it. It seems like the AI strategy is basically charge blindly forward into my guns, and fifty percent of the time it seems to work. I was never this bad at the other Total War games...and the battle results never seem this flukey when playing them. Maybe I'm crazy and/or loving awful at the game...has anyone else had similar results?

I never bothered with Shogun 2 mods and I know people don't like Darth mod here because he sticks Star Wars crap over the menu screen and alot of the changes are either uneccesary or not that great, but the extra unit sizes make things about a million times more fun.

I've also got Hedge knights campaign AI mod which stops the stupid army composition problems. I've not met any stacks of archers yet!

I still have no idea which one I'd choose, if I had to choose one, Fall of the Samurai or Shogun 2. I mean, I like the idea of just having basic good-ole traditional combat, but the idea of being able to use a chaingun on a bunch of sword wielding jerks is a big motivator to get FOTS.

Probably not, this daily deal is most likely as low as it's going to go. That's how the big sales usually work, at least.

Could at least flip one or two, maybe.
Daily deal is likely how low it will go. However, a CA pack sale might come up and make the DLC cheaper.

So buy Shogun 2 and then the DLC at the end.
