Recently I've been listening to Idiot Pilot first album - Strange We Should Meet Here. While I don't listen to screamo, I found this album to be nicely balanced between electronica, pop and the aforementioned yelling. Are there any other bands that do similar stuff? Looking at last.fm gives me as top similar (from what I recognize) Team Sleep, Everything is Made in China, which sound nothing alike, and Daniel Anderson's Glowbug which is Idiot Pilot's Wolves gone surf rock/glam/weird. Help!

Research tells me that I'm looking for either '90s house, deep house or Detroit techno. I really love that nostalgic, almost ambient quality of the first two, even in songs that are more upbeat and dance-able. Anything in that tradition (or not) is awesome. You definitely want Detroit techno and artists heavily influenced by it. The UR album "Galaxy 2 Galaxy - A High-Tech Jazz Compilation" has that track on it and a lot of others in a similar style. The UR label and sublabels released a lot of similar stuff during the 90s, try The Martian especially, his compilation album "LBH - 6251876" has most of his notable pre-1999 tracks. Along with UR the most important Detroit techno labels were Transmat, Metroplex and KMS, just YouTube up anything they put out in the late 80s/90s, e.g. this, this, this etc. Also check out 808 State from the UK, whom I'm sure inspired a ton of similar acts but I'm not really too well-versed in that stuff. Well probably with liberal use of backing tapes but whatever. Anyway, when I think of 808 State I always think of Ultramarine for some reason. A bit more ambient, a bit more dubbed out but whatever. An album group, though stay away from United Kingdom as it's not their strongest. Every Man And Woman Is A Star and Bel Air are the ones you want. Talking about Lone, you could check R&S Records recent-ish In Order To Dance comp IOTDXI. You've got Lone in there obviously and the other artists that make up the 21st Century version of R&S Records, all generally with the same kinda vibe, but all pretty different in how they get there. R&S did a ton of other In Order To Dance comps way back when they were one of the biggest dance labels of the 90s. The older ones from the early 90s will be littered with that Belgium Hardcore Techno/Rave sound, which nowadays can seem a bit cheesy at times, but they're still good tunes. However they did also put out or licensed a lot of Detroit and other American stuff from the likes of Model 500 (aka Detroit supremo Juan Atkins. They've recently re-issued some albums of his actually) and Joey Beltram among others, so can be worthwhile checking out if you've got some time on your hands and don't mind the odd surprise or two. Should be easy to find too, at least over here in Europe.

If I want a Frank Zappa overview compilation, can I do better than Strictly Commercial? I'm stuck between getting his 15 or so highest rated albums (the rateyourmusic crowd looooves him, so it's very hard to pick 2-3 from there), or a single disc compilation in Strictly Commercial. I'd very much like a 2 or 3 disc compilation rather than just a single.

I'm looking for more music videos in a similar vein to this Spinto Band one. Animated is a plus I guess, but really I'm just looking for more music videos with catchy music that are similarly charming and happy. Something where the band doesn't care at all as coming off as cool, and even better if the band doesn't show up in it at all. This is a weird thing to ask for, I guess? I dunno. Anyway, if nothing else, maybe this will at least be a way of spreading a neato video to other people.
