Sorry if base, degrading money talk is frowned upon in this thread, but I'm trying to clear out my teenage record collection and having trouble finding values for a couple of records (on eBay/popsike at least). So, there are alot of Radiohead fans in NMD generally - has anyone come across a jukebox 7" of Karma Police/Let Down (Edit) on Capitol? I'm hoping it's worth like, millions, obviously.

Don't worry, I'm basically amazed that you can sell old Britpop/Grunge/Radiohead records at all. Anything I can get for any of them is a bonus.

vv Thanks, hadn't used discogs before. I like how comprehensive it is but I'm guessing the "Marketplace" prices are still much higher than I could hope for? vv

Yeah, the real 90s deal! No Beck though, sorry. Looks like the Radiohead stuff, 'Live Through This' on City Slang and Smashing Pumpkins 1979/Bullet with Butterfly Wings double-'A' side are the pick of the bunch.

Goddamn that is beautiful. I just love that new logo; it's perfect for them. Glad I went for that color, too! I'm like 33.33% sure that record showed up yesterday at my old workplace. It's either that, or Spaces, or Dirty Projectors (but maybe not that. anyone gotten theirs yet?), and I won't know for at least a week, being that I've just moved, and have no apartment yet.

My Conveyor LP showed up the day before I left Colorado, all signed and looking beautiful, which is funny, because I was hoping to take it to their Portland show tomorrow night and have them sign it. They preempted me, so instead, I plan to buy them shots. I'm a Conveyor fanboy, and I'm stupidly excited to go meet them tomorrow. :D

Hey dudes and gals, Conveyor here: if you pre-ordered our record and it got warped in this last ridiculous heat wave and you haven't yet contacted Paper Garden Records to replace it, do so! They're more than happy to give you a hand. I'd address it personally but we've been on the road for two weeks (see you in a couple hours cpt spring types) with many to go.

We're similarly dealing with issues as we drive a van full of precious, fragile records across America, but if there's any way I can help, feel free to let me know as well.

What attitude problem?
Thanks again to everyone who recommended Reckless Records in Chicago. I kind of went overboard, but here's what i ended up with:

AFI - Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes (deep maroon-ish)
AFI - Very Proud of Ya (lilac)
Bouncing Souls - Anchors Aweigh (black)
Minus the Bear - Highly Refined Pirates (10 year remaster, translucent gold)
No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom (orange, bought for my boss as a going-away present)
Cheap Girls/Lemuria Split 7 inch (maroon)
Cold World - You're an rear end in a top hat 7 inch (black, mistaken for Cold World from Wilkes-Barre)
Cold World/War Hungry Split 7 inch (black, and the right Cold World this time)
The Ergs! - Thrash Compactor 7 inch (black)

Amazing selection, so much more I wanted to buy too. Makes me wish I lived closer or that Pittsburgh had a better selection.

Then at Pitchfork Fest Saturday I nabbed:

Japandroids - Celebration Rock (white with photo booklet)
Japandroids - Post-Nothing (black)
Owen - At Home with Owen (black)
The Ergs! - Blue 7 inch (blue)

So yeah. Couldn't pass up Japandroids and Owen at $10 each from Polyvinyl. They were sold out of the American Football self-titled by the time I got there, but I can't complain about much else. Very pleased with my haul and color selection. Once I find my camera cable, I'll upload some pics. And for reading all that, you can use the code P4K12 until October 31st at the Polyvinyl Store for 20% off your order. Cheers!

I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth; fucked both a chick and her mom

I will get anal. Oh yes.
So I have a random question, I don't know if this will be the right thread but here goes.

I now have a record player and about three boxes full of hundreds of classic rock albums on vinyl, and I want to listen to them. The problem is, I have no idea how to set the system up.

It was my girlfriend's dad's system, and he passed away so I can't call and ask him for instructions. It's a mis-mashed set of about four different types of speakers, a Dolby home audio receiver, and a subwoofer. I bought speaker wire, but then I realized beyond knowing the difference between the positive and negative ends, I have no idea what in the hell I'm doing.

The record player has three cables. One for power, one single strand of speaker wire that is all black, not split at the end, just a single strand that originates inside the player itself. And a cable that splits in two at the end, but its a plug that looks like Audio/Video in. There are bands at the end, but they are old and both look yellow to me.

The speakers all have ports in the back for speaker wire and most of them already have speaker wire attached. No independent power sources.

The home audio receiver has a poo poo ton of ports in the back. Speaker wire ports for the speakers, center speaker and woofer. That part I can understand. But the only "plug" ports that I see are labelled TV, DVD, Satellite, Tape and I think Aux. I would hazard a guess that the plug type wires from the record player go in one of these, but I have no idea which one since none of them say record player.

I know I probably sound like a loving idiot but if anyone could help me I'd be much obliged. I can try and post some pictures later if that would help, I'll be back in my place later tonight.

If anyone could help or direct me to a resource on how to put together this system, I'd appreciate it!

The cables coming from the TT are your phono (red/white (left/right)) which carries the sound; and ground (black unterminated) which you screw onto the chassis of your receiver.

There won't be a "record player" input, it's probably aux. If the connectors fit, it'll work.*****

I'm assuming since this setup WAS used, you won't need to put a preamp in line, and you should be fine plugging the TT into the receiver as-is. Check your left/right, and if it's wrong, switch your plugs.

*****If your setup doesn't have a preamp in the TT or in the receiver your sound will be super low. Try (1) connecting to a different input on the receiver. If that doesn't work, you might need to buy an inline preamp, which you can find for about $25 on the cheap end.

Last but not least, BUY A NEW STYLUS IF NOT CARTRIDGE. The old one is probably lovely at this point and will gently caress up your records.

Start with a Grado Black (entry level), Shure, Ortofon, etc..

Can you explain the screw it into the chasis part in a little more detail? As in actually screw it in somewhere? Or look for a port?

In case you can't tell I am so not used to working with anything that doesn't require just plugging in color coded cables.

There will be a screw on the back of the receiver. You fit the ground wire around it then screw the screw in, holding the wire against the contacts on the receiver.
