I noticed this before with MX Player when it wouldn't play sound in HW mode. There's actually a way to make it do HW mode for Video, and SW for sound so it still has great quality, and sound. If desired, I can go find how to do it again.
Settings -> general -> force software sound
Or an option like that. I'm pretty sure its the third option in the list.

Try starting nav while you still have data. As long as you stay on route it should still work. That's how it was with my phone when I put it in airplane mode at least.

Yeah, location routing is done in the cloud and pushed down to the device. So, if you get the route before you leave data, you'll be fine. You just won't be able to re-route en-route.

After 30 minutes I'm still shocked at the performance of JB when compared to ICS. Almost at iOS levels of smoothness. So close. The official case leaves much to be desired. It's a rubber sleeve of sorts and it does fit very well. Everything lines up with the ports but the button covers are awful. Like really bad. Skip the official case and get something good.

The hardware is fantastic. GPS locks are much quicker than my Nexus S, even inside my Lincoln Sedan with the steel roof. I was in the green with 9 satellites with the nexus 7 on the floor on the rear passenger seats.

Google tracks works as expected, even without a network connect it'll record speed/elevation/heading/etc and worry about the map data later when it obtains a network connection.

I was a bit pissed at google maps and google navigation, although its probably user error on my part.

I opened maps with my office wifi and cached Los Angeles, San Diego, Imperial County and parts of the Mojave desert. [3-4 files]

Once I got to my car I couldn't open navigation or maps, it told me it required network access

I'm having problems finding out where/how/when to enable offline support, most of the articles I'm finding online are from a year ago, despite the recent announcement from Google a few weeks ago. Maybe these features aren't fully deployed yet.

Testing Gaia GPS now, it's a bit clunky with zooming but I'll see as I use it more.

Awesome thanks for this! I don't have a N7 just yet, I just want to absorb as much info as I can before I can afford to pick one up. From all the good I'm reading about on the web thus far, I'm pretty much sold as it stands.

possible screen creep fix

If you are having issues with the left side of your screen slowly raising up over the bezel there appears to be an easy fix if you dont mind removing the case.

NOTE: Removing the case is EASY, you can use a guitar pick, your fingernails, or a precision screwdriver (I used a guitar pick to prevent any nicks on the casing)

Seperate the bottom case from the top...the area where the "leather grip" backing hits the silver bezel. You need to run whatever implement you are using under the top half all the way around, the clips give way pretty easily. It's barely harder than removing a battery cover.

Then simply tighten the perimeter screws and reattach the bottom. A few of the screws, particularly on the left side, were a full 2 or 3 rotations loose. Havent had the screen creep since.

Note that they are tearing down the I/O tab, so the bottom half is white.

I was able to fix mine using this method. I used my thumbnail and pried it open right between the power button and volume rocker. Once you get that initial separation, it is only slightly more difficult than removing a battery cover. Mine didn't have any warranty seals.

It is completely absurd that people are having to do this at all. I didn't feel like sending this back though and this took 2 minutes tops.

Ignore Star War Sex Parrot's trolling.

In Android trying to seek out tablet-specific versions of things is wrong thinking. There are a few examples of those but well-coded apps work on a variety of different screen sizes / densities. Which is exactly why you would expect an Android tablet software thread to sort of die, there wouldn't be much to talk about.

For widgets have a look at HD Widgets and Beautiful Widgets.

Maybe people could talk about "well-coded apps" since there is no obvious way to find out which are beforehand.

True, there's no way to tell which apps are quality apps. If only the Play store had some sort of ratings system, which let you filter by people who have the same device as you...

Besides the listing of tablet apps I already provided, there's also http://www.tablified.com/ and androidpolice.com does a tablet-oriented app roundup from time to time.

Unless I'm missing something Rastor's link leads to almost 75 Android apps that are designed to work with Android tablets and take advantage of that extra screen real estate, and he also alluded to the fact that well-coded Android phone apps will automatically switch up and make use of tablet screen real estate, such as:

After carefully evaluating those suggestions, the conclusion I reached is that those 75 tablet-specific apps aren't well coded, and some unspecified, unnamed, unsearchable subset of the other android phone apps are well coded and will be awesome. The non-well-coded others will look like this:

I haven't seen the app selection change, but overall the argument that it scales fine is just wrong. I'll go as far as buying the argument for 7" tablets, but it simply isn't fun to do so with larger screens than that. I'm not a big app person, but for tablets all the main, "essential apps," are all inferior on Android right now.

And anyone who argues, my response is to try Google Docs. That is an app that should work great on Android and is just utter poo poo. Google Voice is more functional but the same way overall.

Skype and twitter and most android apps look like stretched poo poo on tablets so what's your point? Is it a problem that needs to be addressed or is it all A-OK as-is in your opinion? You keep posting those links to "15 not too terrible apps you can sort of barely use on your android tablet" as if there are enough dedicated android tablet apps to cover basic requirements, but then say android phone apps on tablets are just fine when they look like what everyone has seen, then you say they should / would / will / maybe one day scale up and not look like poo poo. I can't keep up with your position v:shobon:v. Why did you pass up the opportunity to show a sweet screenshot of an awesome tablet-optimized android skype app, in any language?
