Too bad the execution of the idea is less than stellar, the tracks just sound so weak somehow.

Ugh I thought Northern Kings would just never appear in this thread but here we are. Why are they trying to make Creep extremely epic? Edit: Ok I guess I like their Don't Stop Believing cover, but maybe that's because I hear the same drat song played at every Detroit Red Wings game. And this is a change of pace. So I was just introduced to Falls of Rauros and holy poo poo this stuff is immense and beautiful. Just check it out, especially if you like Agalloch and other such atmospheric black metal stuff. Also wanna mention that the album has some of the best production I've heard in ages. The sound is just so loving crisp and clear. Love it. I'm gonna buy that album first thing when I get some money on my bank account, these guys deserve some drat support.

I first heard them (The Fire We Fathered) on a free comp and immediately bought the album. I pimp them whenever I can because I'm a whore for acoustic black metal. I still like Hail Wind And Hewn Oak better than their latest, so pick that up too (though I agree the production on Light is perfection).

A few years back there was a video posted of Native American influenced metal. I've seen tried to locate it again. I believe it was kind of doomish/folk. Also looking for any metal that sounds like Agalloch's The Mantle album. I especially like the motif of using sound clips from films in the song if you know of any that do that. Stumbled upon a drum circle, not long after watching that there Headbanger's Journey, and thought, "Leather-lunged vocals soaring over super-heavy bass, eh?" It's crazy how badass and intimidating that can sound. Like, it was just 6 dudes and one drum, but it sounds like a whole army when done well. So many Native metalheads, but no bands. It would be interesting to hear what they come up with, as their cultural wounds are so fresh. When I bring this up with my Native friends, though, they're just like, "poo poo's sacred, white boy. gently caress you." Then, I am sad.

Don't know if this is meant to go in the prog thread, but there's a new BTBAM song and album preorders available HERE and predictably it loving owns. I love the whole space aesthetic that they've got going on this time, and even though I was slightly non plussed by the last EP, the track they've released from this sounds great, and I am very, very excited. I just wish Metal Blade would give the UK/EU those oh so delicious preorder packages. The shipping fees are really horrible to the UK

Industrial metal didn't go anywhere as a subgenre label, and these "cyber-metal" bands always end up somewhere between melodic death or technical. Then again I kind of despise subgenre labeling anyway since it doesn't do anything except start arguments; if you want to describe a band's sound, you're usually better off listing the band's antecedents ("this band sounds like a cross between x y and z bands") because even then if you haven't heard of any of the listed bands you have a few new bands to check out!
