Install Chrome, use that for Hulu or other sites that need Flash, use Safari the rest of the time.

I'm on a MBP. I've set display dimming off in Energy Saver. My display still dims sometimes. I don't know when, and I don't know why, but it does. Am I crazy or is it doing this for other people too?

Has Mountain Lion made any Bluetooth changes?

I use my MBP in clamshell mode, connected to a monitor with an Apple keyboard and trackpad connected via Bluetooth. With Lion I could just click the touchpad or tap the space bar to wake the laptop but since upgrading to ML I can't do that any more.

The "allow wake from sleep" option is still enabled in the prefpane and when I open the lid to wake the computer, I notice bluetooth is enabled but it has lost its connection to both the trackpad and keyboard. It regains them shortly after I wake it by opening the lid.

This is getting really annoying and if it's an intentional change by Apple then I'm going to have to downgrade to Lion.

Just fixed this problem - turns out Mountain Lion doesn't respect Lion prefpane settings. The option to wake from sleep is ticked but unticking it, closing the prefpane, reopening it and re-ticking solves the problem. Same for getting rid of natural scrolling and enabling tap to click.

Is "Automatically adjust brightness" checked in Display? The ALS may be triggering for some reason.

Kind of sucks that Siri isn't a new voice in ML for text-to-speech.

I wonder if they'll phase her in.

OK, so *what* exactly is the deal with scrolling? I'm on a late 2009 MacBook and I don't plan on switching from Chrome to Safari if that's relevant. I really wanna try all the cool new stuff in ML but the scrolling issue is what's putting me off so far.

It's actually refreshing the page every time you navigate back/forward. If the list of threads hasn't changed order then the new fadey animation makes it look like the only thing that has changed is the post counts.

If your machine supports it, the only real reason to not upgrade for twenty bucks would be that this really does feel like a service pack for Lion and not a new OS. It's probably got just enough new candy that it's worth the $20, but I could easily see myself staying with Lion if I had to, as long as the software support is there.

Unless your job depends on some very archaic software, you'll probably want to upgrade no matter what.

Agreed. For whatever reason, iMessages will show up instantly in Messages at the same time as my iPhone, but after a few minutes they desync and message will only come to my iPhone. If I reply in the Messages window, eventually everything comes through but out of order.

I also get randomly disconnected from AIM in Messages, to the point where I'm back to using Adium for IM with Messages open just for iMessages. It's redundant and frustrating. This and the graphical flickering/glitching in Safari 6 are the only things I don't really like about Mountain Lion.

I guess what I was wondering is if there was anything made significantly worse or anything like that. I don't think my old Macbook will run it, so I may keep my Air on lion just for consistency for now, but just was wondering.

Notification Center is the only new feature that I noticed to really except the problem is there doesn't seem to be too many apps that use it right now. Other than that, I guess dictation seems like a really cool idea and I'm using it to post this right now. I'm not sure if is just a novelty though.

I use my retina MBP and the MBP I had before it in clamshell all the time. There's two different ways to go about it depending on whether you're starting from it turned off or asleep:
  1. Powered off: make sure all your peripherals, the power and your monitor are plugged in, turn the laptop on and immediately close the lid. If you've done it correctly, the white startup screen with the grey Apple should appear on your monitor and the Apple on the lid of your MacBook shouldn't be glowing because the screen should be off
  2. Asleep/already turned on: Close the lid, make sure the computer is sleeping, connect your peripherals/monitor/power and then either press a key on your keyboard or click your Magic Mouse. If this doesn't work, you may need to enable 'Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer' in the Advanced Bluetooth preferences

Edit: check to make sure you've got the latest EFI for your Mac through Software Update as well
