I'm really failing to see the appeal of Derpl. Most of his attacks don't seem to synchronize well, and his nuke does a really pathetic amount of damage for how slow the projectile is and how long you need to commit to one spot without moving.

I've seen a few examples of great teamwork with characters that mesh well together - things like tongue-focus Leon, time bubble Yuri, and Derpl sticking together and racking up kills. It's great fun to tackle groups like that and to still end up winning against them. Best laid-plans, etc.

I really can't get a feel for Coco. Anyone have any particular strategies for her? I just can't seem to play as well with her or Clunk as I can with anyone else.

edit: vvvv Yeah, I usually grab the disco ball right off the bat as I'm a little disappointed with her regular melee attack. My focus is usually either hitting people through walls or into my shock traps.

Go for the ball explosion first. It goes through walls and can knock enemies back into you if you detonate it behind them!

Coco has great synergy with Leon tongue pull, you ball then lockdown with primary for a pretty nasty combo. As noted above, her ball is also a good initiator itself. It can be used for stopping stalemates or teams that turtle on their tower. You can combine the knockback into your team with Froggy/Clunk stun and then help lock them down afterwards. Yesterday we ran a Clunk/Derpl/Coco team where we would hit them with all 3 nukes with the stun/slows in range of Derpl siege. It was pretty dumb on that map with the single lane. Bonus points if you have your team do this after dropping down from a ledge onto the enemy.

I've actually come to love everything about him. I specifically use him as more of a defender however and it's often hard to resist running out of the turret shelters before it's time to do so.

First I upgrade the cat cannon to maximum, usually length first, and use it more of a harassing thing. I'll tag their turrets a bit, picking off bots, and the length of the cat shot can be somewhat intimidating when spewing out pretty far from the turret. I get the low rank damage maxed and the fire rate maxed and it becomes actually fairly solid.

At that point I will get snare and venture out of the turret shelter. The first few snares are going to be a surprise if you hit it while near someone. I then go through the snare upgrades; the stun duration, silence, and mine life extenders.

This may sound pithy, boring, or whatever else but I've turned the tides on games that have seemed otherwise hopeless like this.

I don't use his siege mode or nuke at all. If my team has exceptional presence and tightness I will get snare almost immediately and start laying them within the turret's range.

The couple of Derpls I've played against that properly used the trap were infuriating. The one Derpl would catch me in a trap mid team fight then I would get knocked/pulled back into another trap closer to a tower and die. It's literally 5 seconds of stun, cya later.

Then another one was incredibly difficult to chase. I would get them low but then they would drop down the platforms to mid jungle while putting down snare traps. Also, on that map with the mid jungle, my friend will put a trap at the top of the big bounce pad. So while it can be dangerous to use normally, it's completely useless to the other team and makes for easy firstblood if they blindly take it at the start.

Don't think that any attacks blow up mines, and there is no friendly fire.

I generally try and lay down 3-4 mines on top of each other without moving and staying offscreen. Easy kills. Also, dropping mines in the jungle when it's been cleared, will magically give you 5 solar and some health when a creep respawns and hits one.

Patch 1.2

- Derpl, turretmode bullets range improved, base 7.4 > 7.6, upgrade 2 > 2.4
- Derpl, trap snare duration upgrades changed 0.5 > 0.4, 1 > 0.8
- Derpl, trap cooldown changed 5 > 6
- Coco, ball lightning range upgrade now also increases speed

- Coco, Ball lightning damage changed, base 25 > 35, upgrades 15 > 5, upgrade cost 205 > 180
- Coco, Ball lightning cooldown changed, base 7 > 5.5, upgrade -1.5 > -1
- Lonestar, Grenades now always explode on contact after 0.3 Seconds. This is no longer affected by the bounce upgrade
- Clunk, missile string with upgraded attack speed should now be correct
- Clunk, attack speed upgrades fixed (order was incorrect: second tier was weaker than first)
- Droids, improved base health and health increase during gameplay
- Leon, crit upgrade split into two upgrades that add +10 damage each. Critchance remains 15%
- Leon, base attack speed reduced 150 > 136, upgrade cost 195 > 215
- Voltar, healing speed changed 60 > 67
- Voltar, Drone cooldown reduction upgrade fixed
- Voltar, fixed that Healbot knockback on blue team was inverted (pull instead of push)
- Froggy G, Dash cooldown upgrade cost 110 > 120, 180 > 190

- Froggy G, Shot attack speed upgrade cost 145 > 165
- Froggy G, Shot range upgrade cost 145 > 185
- Yuri, fixed timing inconsistencies with healing bubble

General fixes: major fixes
- Fixed a crash when switching control scheme while a popup is being opened or closed
- Achievement Masters Of The Universe has been fixed
- Fixed that only one wireless Xbox controller was usable at once
- Fixed that non-Xbox controllers that output as XInput were read double, causing one controller to control two splitscreen players (for example Logitech F310)
- Music now mutes when the game window does not have focus (on alt+tab, for example)
- Instead of crashing, game now shows a message if videocard drivers are grossly out of date

General fixes: minor fixes
- Fixed that some network packages were lost before sending. This is probably only a minor networking improvement
- Number of Solar Bosses killed is now tracked in the stats screen
- Hawk Wolf Puma Bear descriptions fixed in Spanish, French
- Fixed that second bottom turret in Ribbit IV could sometimes be attacked from the back without returning fire
- Window now minimizes when browser links in main menu are clicked
- Improved menu controls with some control schemes in some specific places
- Removed “mute” button from scorescreen and controls scheme configuration screen (button didn’t do anything)
- Various other minor fixes to functionality and texts

Topics that didn’t make it into this patch and that we are working on
- New character Gnaw will come soon!
- Some players get excessive lag or too many network errors. Less than 0.1% of players cannot enter an online match at all. We are working on this.
- We are still looking for a fix for some players with various Nvidia cards who can only run on Low graphics quality, or not at all.
- A couple of players with specific Asus laptops cannot start the game at all. We are still looking for a fix for this.
- Some users claim that there are bugs in the Rankings calculations, so we have added additional logging to be able to research that. If you see things like that you win and then see your ranking decrease, then send us a log plus extensive description of what happened, so that we can check what is going on.
- Besides new characters and various fixes, we are working on something Really Cool And New (tm). We will not yet tell you what that is. Muhaha!
Gnaw seems interesting. I wonder what that really cool and new thing is. Possibly a new map and mode combo? Could be wrong.

So basically:

-Ball lightning quite a bit weaker now but fires faster
-Froggy G has more expensive upgrades
-Leon crit + crazy attack speed problems fixed
-No more tnting someone in their face with Lonestar, at least not with 100% accuracy.

I'm glad that they nerfed Leon's crit chance upgrade, though I'd prefer if it were removed entirely. Random critical hits are always a bad game mechanic, and it's really frustrating to be killed by them.

The new Ball Lighting changes for Coco are interesting, it sounds like they'll do less damage when maxed out but with less cooldown. But why did they nerf Derpl's snares? I don't mind so much the snare time, but why mess with the snare cooldown?

Also Gnaw looks crazy with that weird spitter plant he can place. Plus it looks like the cooldown for it is really short, so you can just place them everywhere and be an rear end in a top hat, unless there is some limit on the number you can place.

FrickenMoron

Coco can fire ball lightning for max 50 damage now every 4.5 seconds instead of 70 every 5.5. The good thing is the range upgrade also increases projectile speed which might make the thing a lot more deadly in the long run!

The plant icon has a number next to it that got used up when he planted it so I am guessing there is a limit. Seems to be 2 but maybe an upgrade increases the limit.

I think the slow is going to be an annoyance factor for most people. Could be crazy good in a teamfight.

Increasing the base damage and reducing the base cooldown for Coco's lightning ball means that I might actually change up my loadout for her. The increased speed saddled with the range upgrade means that it will probably be my first pick from here on out.

I don't know if I'll keep Lonestar as my main as I relied pretty heavily on rubber sleeve TNT to keep Leon at bay. Frankly, I'm surprised they didn't nerf his pistoles as well.

The AI always mirrors whatever chracters begin the game. If an AI replaces a player who drops, it will generally mirror one of the opponents' characters, I believe. That's how it behaves on XBox, certainly.
