So I had my 37 week checkup today. I'm 80% effaced, 3 centimeters dilated, and the baby is at station 0. I started to experience some severe gas-like pain/cramping last night and now the cramping and contractions has progressed even more and is hitting harder and more frequently. I also just past the infamous bloody show (brownish-red goop). So does this mean labor is potentially around the corner? The midwife I saw today (my midwife is on vacation) said she would be at the hospital should I deliver tomorrow almost as if she is expecting me to end up in labor that fast. Should I be expecting to go that soon now? Either way, I am getting excited!

There's never a guarantee with labor, but all of those are great signs. If you start barfing or making GBS threads your brains out, that's another sign of imminent labor. Or a stomach bug.

That certainly sounds like labor is on its way. Man, most of that never happened with me. When my daughter was born, my water broke at 37 weeks but I was barely 1cm dilated and she hadn't dropped down at all. Not even sure about effacement. I was having contractions, though.

Little Brendan was only on a CPAP for about 12 hours and has been breathing on his own for 6 days while Trevor got off his yesterday. I still can't believe that we have three babies Avery - 3 lbs Trevor - 3 lbs 2 oz Brendan - 1 lb 14 oz

Such cute teeny tiny babies!!! I'm 34 weeks and I've been having pains in my belly. Like, sometimes it's hard pushes from the baby out towards my belly button and other times I cannot identify what it is. They seem too isolated to be contractions, but they are sharp, short pains. My doctor's office isn't open on Fridays... do I need to go into the hospital?

Well, I'm in the hospital with my new babby! Eowyn was born yesterday at 5:30 pm, after being induced and a week overdue. She was 9 lb 12 oz, 21 inches long, and breech. They couldn't turn her, so they let me try delivering her butt-first and I did it! The mere idea of a c-section terrified me enough too push! Unlike my other three though, she's having huge issues with feeding. She totally ignores the very concept of my left breast, sucks my right breast so much it's gone dry, and hasn't quite figured out latching. She just can't seem to make a seal with her teeny lips. Last night didn't help matters, with an overnight nurse who nagged me every hour on the hour to wake her up and try again. She had me stripping my baby and trying to force my nipple on her. Eowyn was tired, I was tired and it was horrible. She won't even take a bottle, the night nurse basically ended up force feeding her a bottle by squirting it in her mouth! Fun fun times, but she's super well behaved and observant otherwise. Truth be told, I wonder if she's even hunger!

Wow, congratulations on all the babies lately! I hope I'm next. I'm at 38 weeks now and apparently I'm good to go, all that needs to happen is the baby needs to drop more. What sucks about this last week though is that I've been doing the opposite of nesting. I have no energy, I've started taking middle of the day naps again, and I have no motivation to do anything around the house. It's making me feel super guilty when my husband comes home and I've done maybe one thing.

There's a corny Baby Blues strip where the wife is all "I had a great day! I washed THREE dishes! That's 3x more than yesterday!" There comes a time when your body's doing so much inside that you just can't do that much outside. It's different for everyone's pregnancy, so don't feel bad for being wiped when other people are polishing floors. It's normal

Those little ones are so tiny and adorable my heart jumped into my throat! Congratulations and I'm so happy to hear they are doing so well. So sweet and adorable! On another subject, I was never ever told about possible tongue tie when I was having so many problems breast feeding! I feel pissed off not. I'm not sure if he has it, because I'm at work and don't know what to look for but he had all the symptoms you guys were talking about. We went to lactation clinics, the doctor, LLL meetings, and had an in hope lactation specialist come in and NO ONE said one thing about tongue tie! I've actually never seen him stick his tongue out all goofy like, like other babies do either. The last consultant I saw said that I was doing everything right and Max was just being not getting it. Ugh! This makes me so mad! I hope he's not tongue tied, but now I'll definitely get him checked. If he is and nothing's done about it, would it cause problems with speech later on? He vocalizes just fine, but it's mostly all in his throat. Also, I'd like to know if someone has any experience with having a heart-shaped uterus. My friend was just told she has one and she's devastated, as she wants kids. From what I can tell, it's not impossible to conceive, but there's a higher rate of miscarriage and babies are often premies because of a smaller area to grow in. Any one have personal experience with this or know of someone who does? I'm just looking at how to support her and also maybe looking for confirmation that it's not as much of a bad thing as it feels for her.

It's not something I'd fret about, but if you're concerned ask your ped to take a look and if he/she suspects something ask for a referral to an ENT as that's usually the only way to get into one. My son's is pretty obvious as the flap of skin under the tongue (frenulum) comes all the way to the front of his tongue and forms a heart shape at the tip.

I guess your mucus plug can pass over a couple of days?? I had what I thought was it on Saturday night but had more mucus pass on Sunday and again this morning. I'm not too concerned, I'm 3 cm dilated and completely effaced so I knew it was coming, but I would like the grossness to stop already.

Or it can not come out at all and when they check to see how dilated you are, it can all come out in a clump in their hand at that point (this happened my first labor).

I'm going to jump (tentatively) into this thread. I am very early on in my pregnancy-- 4 weeks. We just super confirmed I was pregnant this morning after a flurry of peeing on things on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and finally this morning (yes, they were all positive). So, where do I start? When did you all set up your first appointment with your doctor? What are some good week by week books to read? What is a good site or source of information that tells you the things you really should avoid doing/eating/using and stuff like that? For example-- my husband and I are closing on a house in 2 weeks. We'd like to paint some rooms and obviously have some furniture to move. Can I help with the painting and lifting of heavy furniture? I am not planning on telling anyone other than the internet and maybe a close friend, (including not telling our parents), until 12 weeks or so (because as soon as my mom finds out the world will regardless of me telling her otherwise).

I would call your doctor as soon as possible just to let them know that you're pregnant & let them decide when they first want to see you. As you can see from the posts above, every doctor is different. Some will want to see you right away for a blood test & some won't see you until they can do an ultrasound to confirm dates. I've really liked the Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy. It breaks down the weeks & lets you know what's safe/not safe. But it's not alarmist & scary like I've heard the What to Expect books can be. It also has a lot of great information about the different genetic & prenatal testing available. sheri posted:For example-- my husband and I are closing on a house in 2 weeks. Personally, I would not be lifting heavy furniture during a move if I was pregnant. Unless you're lifting furniture on a regular basis, that's not going to be something your body is used to doing.

If you're not moving furniture for work daily, I wouldn't do it while you were pregnant. My job was all carrying and heavy lifting, and I still had to take it easy. Maybe carrying lighter boxes, but anything you have to "urf" while you lift would be too heavy. As for paint, that is up to you. Latex paint has fumes, but they are mild and unless you paint several coats in a closed bathroom and spend all day in there you should be fine. If you paint a bedroom with the doors and windows open and go out of the paint fume room for breaks you should be fine. If you are not comfortable with it, DONT' DO IT. you have the perfect excuse for not painting. sheri posted:How long/many weeks pregnant were all of you before you started to "feel" pregnant? My husband and I were "not actively preventing children" but not really trying yet when the day I was supposed to start my period it didn't start that morning. Oh well, sometimes off a day, whatever. The whole day I felt vaguely "off". not dizzy in the head or tummy.. but buzzy I guess. I took a test the next morning and it was positive. So I guess I felt pregnant then, and that's why I took the test instead of waiting for my period to show up.

sheri posted:How long/many weeks pregnant were all of you before you started to "feel" pregnant? My boobs felt wonky at 4 weeks preggo, and I was nauseated 20 hours a day by week 6. But actually internalizing the idea that I was pregnant took a LOT longer than that. Sometimes I still think "How the gently caress did this baby get here?" sheri posted:For example-- my husband and I are closing on a house in 2 weeks. Don't go to the point of exhaustion obviously, but there's no reason why you can't do normal stuff like that. Just listen to your body, and you'll be fine. You're not suddenly a fragile being just because you're preggo, and don't let people treat you like you are. Labor is hard loving work (duh), and I was out of shape from taking it easy for 9 months. Next time around, I'm staying as active as common sense allows. If you're painting, get no-VOC paint, though. Benjamin Moore carries Natura that's supposed to be good.

Hopefully by the time you're moving, you'll have set things up with a doctor and can ask them ahead of time about painting and lifting. I'd call them right away. They'll likely wait until you're 7-8 weeks along to see you, but once you're their patient you can always ask them questions. I've had to do a fair amount of moderate lifting all summer. It's not an automatic no-no. Listen to your body, like MoCookies says: if something feels bad, don't do it. Even quite early in pregnancy your ligaments start loosening and abdominal muscles can be sensitive. So take breaks, use your legs and not your back, keep hydrated. Stick to boxes and lighter furniture if you can, as much for the sake of protecting your back as anything else. To be honest, with my second pregnancy I've been grateful for the opportunity to haul things around a bit--I know how much harder it will be to get things done in another few weeks and I've been relishing the times when I do feel okay and can get poo poo done. Here's a page on pregnancy and paint: http://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancyhealth/paintexposure.html Here's their page on exercise. Moving house is obviously anything but recreational, but it gives you a sense of what kinds of activities to use care with: http://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancyhealth/exerciseguidelines.html

Oh god. I tried doing squats to encourage the baby to drop. Now a couple days later my legs and butt are killing me. What the hell did I think would happen? I haven't worked out in 9 months, of course I'd be sore when using those muscles. It's just like the first day at the gym, where you can't move your whole body the next morning. I am such an idiot. Oh and I don't even think the baby dropped! Learn from my mistake, people.

What's the current recommendation for folic acid in the first trimester, the prenatal I have been taking has 800 mcg (or whatever that unit is). The nurse I talked to said the big research hospital in the are was now recommending 5000 mcg every day for the first trimester. Does anyone have any info showing support for this or any info on how much folic is too much if there is such a thing!
