I love that every time I catch up on this thread I'm basically guaranteed to discover a few new bands / albums I like (or reminded of old favourites).

This time it was Torture Squad, Sylosis and the new Faceless album. Thanks to the respective posters (and to everyone who posts cool stuff in general). :)

Pig Destroyer is on Maryland Death Fest.

On another note- the weekend before Barge to Hell is stacked with shows in Florda.

Friday Possessed is playing Tampa (http://www.facebook.com/events/420479124656258/)
It's a one-off before the boat and I think the first time they've played Florida in...ever? I'll be there doing merch or roadie-ing since my boyfriend plays guitar, so come say hi! :)

Saturday is Napalm Death/Exhumed/etc in Tampa and Sunday in Ft. Lauderdale. I think there's 1-2 more in the works, but nothing else confirmed yet.

Im enjoying this a lot, my melodeath collection has been growing a little stagnant lately.

Well, here are some impressions from some people who have listened to the new Wintersun.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rJMYtLIB6Y

Consensus seems to be that there is an absolute fuckton going on and it might not be particularly easy to listen to straight off the bat. This makes me think about Devin Townsend's Deconstruction which was a very difficult album to listen to until it clicked.

I still won't believe this album exists until I have it in my hands and it's not just an hour of Jari farting to dubstep beats, completing his 6 year troll of the metal community.

Does anyone know what Slayer/Megadeths tour schedule is looking like around february? I checked their sites and some fan based stuff but they dont go quite that far ahead.

Reason I ask is because Metallica and Anthrax are both announced for Soundwave festival in Australia and with a few more bands to be announced I am going to assume that this is a possibility.

The new Faceless sure is... something. They seem to have become Opeth. While I do appreciate trying something bold and different, I don't think it altogether works. A lot of the tunes lack balls, and a couple of the tunes (for example, the opening track) would sound right at home on rock radio. I know a lot of people who would like it, but I find it meh.

Agreed. My friend sent me a stream of the album and I honestly thought I was listening to Opeth or Katatonia or something before it got fast. I don't know how I feel about this.

It sounds like a Between the Buried and Me album. BTBAM rules in their own right, but I wasn't expecting such a shift from The Faceless.

I'm having a hard time liking the new Faceless album from what I've heard. Planetary Duality really worked for me I think because the songs and parts were much shorter and interesting. There was much less time spent being lofty/presumptuous/epic or however you want to phrase that. I don't mean that in a bad way, it's just not what I'm drawn towards.

Is the album streaming anywhere?

No, I had a look for a stream today. There only seem to be album trailers around. I wasn't massively keen on Planetary Duality, but all these BTBAM comparisons floating around have piqued my interest, as they are one of my favourite bands.

I guess that tour/date hasn't been announced yet? I assume it's a tour because it's Napalm Death, Speedwolf, Exhumed and Municipal Waste and Speedwolf isn't on the Barge to Hell (as far as I know) and it'd be too far for them to come for just 1-2 shows.

The Tampa show was announced a while back. I'll post it if I see anything. :)

I had never listened to The Faceless prior to Autotheism, and being a big fan of the more progressive side of metal I think it's pretty awesome, this album grabbed my attention immediately. The clean vocals sound a little silly at times, but the instrumentation is very impressive. There's is also some brief Devin Townsend worship going on around the 1:47 mark of Emancipate which makes me very happy.

I just gave this disk my first listen, and it is a drat good album. They've always been one of those bands where I love a few tracks off of each album, but this is great and interesting start to finish. poo poo has mad Opeth, Between the Buried and Me, and Devin Townsend worship all over.

This is an outstanding interview, although I think you guys were too sensitive and apologetic in asking him the hard questions about his beliefs. How scary can the little guy be!

e: although I guess I don't know what more could have been done. I feel like I would have provoked the dude a little bit which likely would have shut down the interview

Thanks! :) Honestly, every time I do an interview I just want to try to make it as interesting as possible, instead of asking the same crap everyone does; and when I get a positive comment like yours, it feels great :D

Regarding Erik, well, he is indeed intimidating, but not in the sense of "he'll attack me" (although, if you check the links at the beginning, you'll see that he is pissed at interviewers) but rather that "he'll get pissed and leave".

Also, I really wanted to make sure that he didn't feel I was mocking him, since that was not my intention. Most of the interviews he gives include some stupid comment about the animals, the smell or the blood, so he's pretty defensive about that.

I think that we did ask the hard questions, going so far as to ask him about how he knows he's not crazy and why doesn't he himself go and become a terrorist instead of expecting others to do it for him! :P

EDIT: You added your edit while I was replying.

By far the best and most insightful Watain interview I've read. This was a great read. He sounds absolutely insane though. I literally have no doubts about his views now, or that they are serious.

As another old metalhead, I find myself doing this regularly. Imagine stumbling across a gem like this when all that is being played on the radio or MTV is New Kids on the Block or Janet Jackson.
