If you're gonna take Shockwave, I think that's decent. also I have been paying attention to my last 24 PSPs and this game is weird about gear drops for me. 48 rares, and how many are rare gear? 11. How many uncommon gear do I get? 8. Practically the same drop rate since boxes are 1-2 uncommons instead of 2 guaranteed rares. (and zero ultrarares the entire time ) All my guns are maxed (except, amusingly, the Phaeston at IX where it's been forever) and I have five more rare class cards and then I'm out. But gear? Nope.

Speaking of gear, it seems to me that those new two weapon bonus damage Rare gears (I think one is called Guerrilla?) are completely redundant. Densified Ammunition works on all weapon combinations, is uncommon and gives a better damage bonus (12% vs. 10% at V). Or am I missing something?

I'm pretty sure I understand how it works, but just to make sure: Submission Net does not restrain armored enemies, but it does damage them and does set them up for Tech Bursts, right?

I'm starting to get the impression that I like silver a lot more than gold or platinum. On most classes gold just feels like if you exist in the line of sight of any ranged enemy whatsoever for a nonzero quantity of seconds, you're suddenly sitting at half a bar of health and have to go back to sitting behind a rock or eat a trail mix bar, which will regardless only give you about a second worth of time to hide. On silver this is still the case for Phantoms because Phantoms are complete bullshit that get to be more dangerous at range than Nemeses, despite being mobile and getting ridiculous DR while moving for no particular reason; that said, they aren't half as frustrating on silver when just having a single other enemy to distract you doesn't mean instant death or running away again. On a separate note, I've found that the N7 Demolisher makes extraction the most fun two minutes of the round. SUPER GRENADE!

As someone who has a group of people I know to play with I think the weekend goal is really cool, much better than most of the previous ones. Definitely would like to do it on Platinum but that might be a bit much. If I had to do it with public players and just hope they didn't use a consumable it would probably be horrible though, so I can understand the negative reaction

I just started playing again after quitting before any of the MP DLC dropped. I really like the Paladin so far. I play mostly weird hours with pubbies and always manage to do okay FBW gold geth with it. I haven't done many other maps on gold though, I'm having too much fun running around with weird builds on silver. I use disruptor ammo on my Carnifex to prime tech bursts unless someone else is playing a tech class then I just wander around priming explosions and using my shield to cover dudes being revived if possible ( I'm looking at you pubbie vangaurds). The shield would better much better if I played with friends or something since sometimes people don't seem to get the "hide behind the nice man with the orange glowy thing" memo. http://narida.pytalhost.com/me3/classes/#35LAPPPM9@0ZA@@G4I4@0@0

Is the Disruptor Beam on the N7 Slayer worth it? I'd rather dump points into Biotic Slash and take cover than have my dumb rear end get wasted after blowing my shields in a moment, but I've watched my brother use it effectively on Gold.

You've pretty much answered your own question here, but to be clear, yes, it is worth it. Some people have great success with it, some don't. Personally, I love it for Bronze and Silver matches, but wouldn't take it on Gold or Platinum. If it doesn't fit your playstyle, by all means, skip it.

In retrospect, I'm a moron. I'm going to go try the N7 Falcon with a random Vanguard, since its MP nerf always felt more "shotgun that spits out grenades" than grenade machine gun. Someone tell me if this is a terrible idea before I become a useless idiot on Bronze.

Tried platinum for the first time tonight. I was running AJA and there was a friendly HA spamming shockwave. The biotic explosions carried us to victory. Next round, two players switch to fury and we're carving up even better. Wave 9, all three of us get grabbed by atlases () towards the end, leaving a salarian engineer. There's two atlases left up. He proceeds to spend ten loving minutes kiting them all over the map while I'm shouting into a busted headset "just use a missile, rear end in a top hat", until I eventually give up and leave the server. I know he hadn't run out because he hadn't used any. Why are some people so drat attached to their consumables?

At first I thought the advantage would be marginal, but not only are the enemies stunned, but they stand fully upright and still, making them a perfect target. What's really great is that sabotage is a useful skill against Cerebus and Geth in any case. Hijacking and Atlus or Turret is always nice, and Geth targets turn to shoot their friends, which is fantastic when dealing with groups of Pyros. Does sabotage do anything to Reapers? I didn't have time to check. Thanks for the advice!

Joined a gold Rio game. All teammates were already dead and surrounded by geth by the time I had spawned. But since I had used level 3 consumables, I wasn't going to let anything stop me. Fought my way to wave 6. All teammates died on the way to the hack circle at the extraction zone. I was the only who made it there, wut a guddamn mess. Then I met a new bug. None of the enemies came for me. I was completely safe, just hiding behind the row of boxes, waiting for the bar to fill (very slowly). Then suddenly a loading screen appeared. I was confused as hell, this was another thing that has never happened to me. Oh, I was kicked out of the game. Apparently looking around is not enough to prevent the auto-afk kick. Should've done a little dance or something I guess. Lost two level 3 consumables and 5 medigels. Got jack poo poo in return. GG.

Easily enough to strip a marauders shields on gold, and take a chunk off of a brutes armor bar. If you spec it right it also lets all tech powers do an additional 50% damage which for hard hitters like flamer is ludicrous. Its possible to let your vorcha teamate do 900 damage a second. Good for increasing tech burst damage as well. Such an underrated power. You only get credit for using it if you hack something though. No assists and possibly no points for a direct damage kill. You'll be the ultimate team player though.

I've played my N7 Slayer with the same build on Gold and while you have to be hosting (I wasn't and it led to some bad times) I also put in an extremely respectable score and it was also a lot of fun. Of course the build also maxes your slash, so you can - and should - use it too.

The main thing to realise about the Slayer is that the three Light Melee slashes give you like 90% DR while you're doing them, so you're only actually vulnerable for half a second while the third slash finishes its animation, and then your Charge is already off cooldown. BUT you do have to watch out for staggers; you can be staggered out of that animation, and your tissue-paper rear end is going to be taking full damage until you recover from the stagger and come off cooldown. So... on Gold you're basically guaranteed to take a dirt nap if this happens. The second thing to realise about the Slayer is that Phase Disruptor staggers absolutely everything. So, the name of the game, in addition to the usual ABC, is to spec everything for radius and just stagger the poo poo out of everyone who is (a) close enough to melee you or (b) capable of throwing enough DPS to stagger you. Do that and you're basically invincible. You can take on a Turret on Gold and win (oh poo poo Turret is shooting me, Charge it for a bit of invincibility, do three slashes for a bit more invincibility, it's almost finished magdumping you at this point and you can probably charge it again to finish it off) or literally tank four Gold Phantoms while doing this, just don't get hitscannoned by an Atlas while doing it, or you'll stagger and those lovely ladies you were dancing with will turn you into a shish kebab/the Turret will turn you into some sort of European dairy product with lots of holes in it. Or, tl;dr -- Slayer Light Melee is Nova, except a bit more directional and without (meaningful) barrier drain, and you also get a super powerful staggering Nova Beam to go with it. Being able to rapidly stagger any three dudes on Gold every time you charge is A Very Useful Thing. (Also, host. That 0.5s vulnerability is actually 0.5s + ping time, since Charge requires a server round trip before it will go off).

If you connect with a heavy melee in a lot of places on Rio you'll disconnect everyone except you and the host.

So it's a great map, except with vanguards or anybody who uses a heavy melee attack.

So a couple nights ago, I decided to take the leap and play on Gold a few times. I'd played it a couple of times before, when the host switched from Silver to Gold, but was always summarily destroyed. I knew I wouldn't be able to do any good by using a primarily offensive character, so I brought in a Fury to play a supporting role. It ended up being against Cerberus, on the blue lab map that's in the single player game. Luckily, the rest of the team looked like they knew what they were doing, so I tried to stick as close to them as possible. My main strategy was: 1. Fire Dark Channel at everything 2. Get the hell back behind cover 3. If there's only one or two minor enemies around, Throw them, or use Annihilation Field + heavy melee if they are close by. I am bad at shooting. Things were going pretty well until wave 6 or 7, where all 4 of us went down. Thinking I was the only one left, I got up, fired all my missiles at everything in the room, and got the hell out of there. As it turned out, there was still 1 guy alive, I stuck with him, and we cleared out the wave. We made it all the way to the end, until one guy ran off by himself, got killed, and the rest of us got stepped on by Atlases in the extraction zone. So overall, pretty fun, albeit a scary and panicky fun. Then I got into another match which turned out to be geth farming. It was interesting because I had never seen one before, but didn't really make me feel like playing any more (I'd played a good amount of Silver earlier). On a side note, whenever I read this thread before, I wondered how it was humanly possible that you guys had played this game enough to unlock all the guns and characters. Then I saw the payout for a Gold match, and I understood. Sort of.

Maybe I'm reading that wrong but are you not setting off biotic explosions constantly with your fury? You should be using AF + throw & DC + throw. Forgive me if I'm telling you things you already know. But I definitely consider the fury to be an offensive character as it's constantly putting out damage.

For some reason this allows you to cancel a part of the last melee strike's animation into the charge, which is (nearly?) enough to not leave a gap in your DR. You still need to host, though.

The sooner you start playing gold the sooner you'll have the gear, guns and experience to do really well at it. There are terrible players clearing Gold everyday. Yeah, I was setting off explosions when I could. I think I was carrying a sniper rifle instead of a lighter gun, which meant my cooldown after DC was pretty long. So I couldn't set off my own explosions very often. But I did find out that a DC + Throw was enough to kill a Phantom, which was very helpful to my not dying abilities.
